'21 Generation 7 Car news

Was pretty shocked while listening to a Jerry Freeze interview in which he said that the chassis that Todd finished 4th with at Indy road course has to be scraped. Guess one of the rub blocks bottomed out on a curb and bent the center section of the car.

Pretty odd that a car with virtually no cosmetic damage and finished 4th had to be completely junked.

But hey, we're saving money............

Difficult to reconcile the chassis center section being bent on a curb while the clips apparently don’t move when they slug the wall.

Mr. Freeze can order a new centre or he can send that one to Technique for repair and recertification.

I wonder how the crash testing went yesterday?

so, these cars were suppose to have the transaxle mounted to a bulkhead on the center section, but sometime changed before the teams got them, now the transaxle has to be mounted to rear rear section. nascar should look at mounting the transaxle to only the center section like most race cars that use transaxles, this will free up the rear section like the old cars. not really a big deal to do.:dirtbike:

Maybe I am reading wrong. But it seems some of y’all are actually suggesting this car is safe. Despite drivers saying the hits are much harder than before, and simple looking wrecks causing concussions. I think I believe drivers over people on a message board

That was the larger conversation Jerry was talking about. Said this car is definitely in no way saving his team any money. Sounds like damage to underbody is just killing the teams.

Can't move the transaxle without creating issues with drive axles. Chassis needs to be extended 12" or ???? they can get to allow room for the fuel cell to shift toward front of car when rear clip crushes.

Just junk this design. Take half-dozen steps back toward old stuff. This car is a poor design for oval track racing. But the guys here on NASCAR payroll will say I'm wrong.

not moving it ,just remounting it the way most race cars done.
The transaxle has a big ole booty compared to the 9" it replaced. This car is shorter from rear axle centerline to bumper. That pushed fuel cell forward. If you mounted transaxle to center section, nothing would change.

This car is doomed to fail. Just a bad idea for oval track usage.

ok,then

Keselowski seems reasonably optimistic ...

“RKF Racing’s Keselowski hasn’t shown any frustration about it.”

“There are people working on it,” the 2012 series champion said. “It’d be one thing if there was a magic wand with a solution that just wasn’t being applied. It’d be one thing if nobody was working on anything. But there are people working on things right now and there are projects underway.”

“I’m kind of having reasonable expectations of those projects. The fact that there is movement and acknowledgment and NASCAR is working on things, the confidence is fine for me.”

Working on things… should haven been working on things when drivers told them LAST YEAR. But nascar. “Oh our data says!!!” Ridiculous.

I think some of it is the old prodigal son phenomenon that seems to permeate so much of our culture. We tend to bend over backward congratulating the person that FINALLY stumbles into the truth, and not enough time praising the people who get it right from the start.

Then why does it seem, and maybe I misread, I do that often and I admit I don’t read every post, but it seems you defend the car and don’t think it’s much of an issue and not at all dangerous despite plenty of drivers saying it’s the hardest hits they’ve taken. Some of which who’s been around since the early 2000s.

In 2010, Alex Bowman crashed a USAC Midget at Las Vegas.

He was badly injured. His injuries included:

2 broken collar bones
12 broken ribs (all on the right hand side)
2 collapsed lungs
1 punctured lung

Alex spent 7 days of his extended hospital stay in the ICU.

Forgive me if I take his post-crash commentary at Talladega with a grain of salt ... and a couple of pain killers.

And please try not to read anything into what I’ve written (above) that isn’t there.

I’m an enthusiastic Bowman supporter and have made that clear on numerous occasions here.

Well now you've done it

I said what I said.

The hyperbole surrounding this issue has taken on a life of its own. I’m sure the Intergoogle will send me numerous alerts when someone refuses to climb through the window.

Talladega? Huh? Bowman got his concussion at Texas? Kurt got his at Pocono. What’s Talladega have to do with anything? I’m talking about how hard hits are this season because of this car that drivers LAST YEAR WHEN TESTING IT, said as much. NASCAR brushed it off like they had no idea what they was talking about. Is it good they are trying to fix the issue? 100%. But they KNEW last year, didn’t do anything to fix it. That’s a problem.

they made a ton of changes to the car last year. Some of the changes were right out front as plain as the nose on your face. Ya see that is my problem and others also. The car is always getting redesigned and will continue to do so . They redid the front end where the majority of colisions take place and now they are working on the rear end of the car. There is this bunch acting like the car is unsafe at any speed. It's to be expected, but most of them haven't been around long and gone thru car changes

Huh?

When have we ever had a new generation of car that was less safe than the previous?

Why did NASCAR dismiss the early concerns about the crash results?

Most humble apologies. I meant Texas.

The hits are hard. That’s not in dispute. When NASCAR knew is a problem if someone wishes to assign blame. At this point, figuring out why and using that information to find solutions takes priority.

Like I said, I’m glad they are doing something. I just wish they would’ve worked with drivers sooner. Not some of this crap they’ve said to defend the car. I’m thankful no one’s been hurt worse than concussions also because it might be hyperbole or people might feel some are over reacting, but honestly I’m worried about someone seriously getting hurt and I would hate to see that.

If people have been paying attention, fuel tanks in street cars have been moving forward for decades. There was a time when nearly all were under the trunk, most now are basically under the back seat. It seems logical that they should move forward in race cars as well. We talked about moving tungsten around in a car, well having the fuel cell more centered and low in the car should pay handling dividends as opposed to having it clear in the back and fairly high.

I just keep coming back to questioning just how well the design of this car was thought out, and exactly who was really involved. We were told that this car was modeled after the Supercars, yet they ignored the fuel cell placement. The lack of sacrificial area in the rear of the car is just totally baffling to me. Who exactly looked at this and said "I don't see a problem here?

Another steering failure. Cody Ware's crash was because he couldn't steer the car. Wasn't a tire issue.
My guess is RWR is just using the system directly from the supplier. After failures most teams are now going through the system, replacing seals and whatnot before it even hits the track
