DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – NASCAR announced today the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East event scheduled for Rockingham (N.C.) Speedway on Saturday, Nov. 2 has been cancelled.

The race at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Ga., on Friday, Oct. 18 now will be the season ending points race. The event is part of the 16th annual Petite Le Mans weekend for American LeMans Series.

“It is unfortunate any time a race must be cancelled,” said George Silbermann, NASCAR vice president, regional and touring. “However, the race track failed to meet its obligations and we were forced to terminate the sanction agreement. We look forward to a great race weekend at Road Atlanta to culminate the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East season and crown the 2013 champion.”

Crazy, so what does this mean for future truck races at the track?

What were the obligations they failed to meet? Is this a money issue?

Thats what it sounds like. Guessing Rockingham is done period, the ARCA races there were failures, and obviously the truck races weren't successful enough or Andy Hilldenburg would be paying NASCAR for the races that he scheduled there. Too bad, I was really looking forward to that K&N race, it was great last year.

Guess they couldn't guarantee the purse.

I think there is also a hefty upfront franchise fee to pay to the sanctioning body plus the numerous safety requirements to be met . Everyone throws around soft walls like they don't cost anything , but that stuff is on the track owners dime.

They probably are done. The promoters of the Milwaukee Mile screwed NASCAR out of sanctioning fees for the Nationwide/Truck races a few years ago and the Mile is basically dead to NASCAR as a result.

You have tracks all over the country guffawing over Brian France to get a NASCAR date at the track, I imagine they have little tolerance for outfits that can't get something right.

They have also cancelled the UARA and CARS(Hooters) Pro Cup races that were scheduled. Looks like Rockingham is done.

UARA's schedule realignment:
September 14 Kingsport
September 21 Caraway
October 12 Newport
October 19 Tri County
October 26 Anderson (Rain date)

Tri-County is such an awesome race. UARA should close out the season there instead of in bum**** nowhere Anderson, SC.

I've "known" this for a while now, just didn't have enough to go to press on it. Trucks won't be back next year... they'll probably close the doors tomorrow. Sad stuff.

Shame, and too bad it couldn't have been announced sooner so that K&N, UARA and Pro Cup would have time to replace it. Losing one race can have a big effect on the championships.

This is just sad. Ultimately, the fans didn't support that place. I'm sure NASCAR will add another race at Chicago or Kansas next year to replace Rockingham with. :(

As soon as something like that gets out , it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy . Any hope of saving it is gone.

I guess the fans have spoken by not supporting tracks like Rockingham and supporting tracks like Kansas. As much as we all say we want short tracks, looks like the majority of fans want boring races at boring cookie cutter tracks.

The two ARCA races I went to there had pathetic fan support. The K&N race last year had a better crowd than I expected (better than ARCA anyway). Don't know about the truck series events.

I was getting a sick feeling seeing the empty seats at the last truck race . They really needed sell outs and lots of them .

The fans had their chance to send a message to NASCAR. They had a chance to go to Rockingham and say "We want more tracks like this and fewer 1.5 mile tracks". They didn't go. I HATE tracks like Chicago, Kansas, Texas and Charlotte with a passion but it's obvious that the fans enjoy those races more than they enjoy tracks like Rockingham and Martinsville. I don't see any reason now why NASCAR should go to more short tracks and road courses.

I'm done blaming NASCAR. I'm now blaming the fans. They're the ones who support a crappy product each week by going to incredibly boring races, don't support their local short tracks and then get on the internet and bitch about how boring Chicago is.

I feel real bad for Andy . In addition to losing his shirt , he's going to hear I told you so from his wife , forever.:(

Man, this sucks. I dont see truck running there next year because of this as well. Just when I thought cup may race there again :(

If I had to guess, the poor attendance was because of location. The reason cookie-cutters tend to have better attendance than short tracks (Bristol being an exception) is because cookie-cutters tend to be located near major metropolitan areas, while short tracks tend to be in rural areas that are difficult to get to.

If Texas Motor Speedway were a short track, I would be going to 2 short track races a year rather than 2 cookie-cutter races a year.

If anything Rockingham may suffer from being too close to the heart of racing. It's less that two hours from Charlotte , Raleigh , and Darlington/Florence , right in the middle of the three.

It's sad but that was likely the last shot that track had. It's pretty clear for whatever reason, the fans just wont turn out there anymore.

Also sad for Andy who as a racer , maybe couldn't see what business people were seeing .
