Bonehead of the week: Talladega II

Change the rule. ANY equipment stuck on/under/to car is immediate red flag at end of pit road. Period.

Crews will then be extra careful to make sure it's all good before the car leaves the pit.

Great , another new rule . How about another new rule for running through that red flag . And another one for crew coming out on pit road to grab the jack. And another one for backing up on pit road to get back into your pit stall while others are leaving. We can come up with hundreds of new rules , but you can't fix stupid. And driving away from your pit stall with a jack under your car is stupid.

There are already rules about running through the red flag, running out on pit road, etc.

Yes and there are already rules for unintentionally removing equipment from your pit stall . Rules and penalties are already in place so why , due to this one instance , are folks wanting more rules?

We can watch a race and tell how fast a car is going anywhere on the track with the on board GPS. EXCEPT on pit road. why is that? New rule should be to show pit road speeds and see whats really happening. Just seems fishy that they make sure we dont see those speeds.

Every team's box has real time, on-screen pit road speeds for every car in the field every time they come down and go out.

Is it hot with that hat on?

If NASCAR isn't going to throw a caution for dragging around something the size and weight of a jack, a rule may be needed. Me, I would have preferred to see the caution and maybe even enforcement of two penalties - equipment out of the box AND deliberately causing a caution. It definitely would have brought out a yellow if Joey has succeeded in shaking the jack loose.

Use some common sense and throw the caution, NASCAR, and nobody would be calling for a rules change.

I'm 100% in favour of throwing the caution if the jack came out . I can't believe you are wanting a caution if the jack doesn't come out . Kinda like wanting a caution before the water bottle hits the track . And he wasn't doing 150+ , he was riding lowly back around to pit entrance at the bottom of the track , trying to do the MWR thing and shake it loose to cause a caution . No soup for you Joey .

@ted@economy What did you think of Nascar throwing a caution today for a torn banner that was not causing any problem? I heard someone in the booth say that Nascar threw the caution in case the banner came loose and caused a car to overheat but does that make sense to you? If a possible flying projectile in the form of a jack is no biggie do you think it was silly to throw one for a flapping banner?

As I said before common sense is not that common.

Not watching the race today . I'm sitting at a gambling casino drinking beer while the wife is gambling away her old age pension check . Believe me Skoal , if you are incensed , I am incensed . Never have I been this outraged. If it makes you feel any better , I am going to have a Bud Light for you. :D:cheers:

Please.......no Bud Light for me but Patrón with an orange slice would be marvy.........and........I am going to confiscate your brush and paint bucket if you keep making this so easy............:)

Exactly. But you said common sense and Logano in the same sentence.

Hahaha....reaching now. Why should Logano get TWO penalties when he just did what EVERYONE before has done when dragging something out of the pits?
And I assume you are inferring Logano has way more than common sense? In that case you'd be correct. For his age he's already a wily vet.

Apparently reading comprehension ain't your friend.

I comprehend fine. I comprehend you and others are ok with what guys have done for years but when Future Champ Joey does it, he should be vilified.
I guess we are the only ones who have seen this many times before . Joey and his crew knew exactly what the protocol is . You try to shake loose whatever part is on your car because you are going to get black flagged. If you can cause the caution flag to come out , you can serve your penalty under caution . This happens a lot in racing .

I was deeply disappointed that the safetyniks were mute concerning the possible ramifications of a dislodged jack flying over the fence and tattooing some innocent redneck and hearing thoughts on the sinister flopping banner would have been interesting too. If common sense and an even application of the rules are important it may be time to check out a bonspiel.

The hypocrisy is astounding.

I'd like you to point out where I've said this is ok- ever. You'll be looking a long time, Strawman.

Show me where you had an issue with someone else doing same thing. Doubt you can do that either.

Logic fail. YOU are asserting I did...or did not, I'm not quite sure... do something. Prove it.

This is a real long time to be going on about something that never even actually caused any issue at all...

:idunno:

Is it bc he won? Do certain ppl feel he wouldn't have otherwise? Butthurt? Or just bored?
