Cup RACE thread --- Bristol

Many will not miss him.
I'd miss him. Fans are too hung up on what these guys say, do, and tweet. It's exhausting hearing someone bitch about what a driver says in post-race. All the while bitching about how these fellas arnt authentic. Guy gives an authentic answer and is taken to task for it( an answer which I initially disagreed with). Okay.... I'll say I got a kick out of Denny on the Netflix show, I've been amused by Kyle Busch's antics when he was winning races and kicking everyone's ass, I thought Tony Stewart was a bad ass and even thought Earnhardt was the coolest. But I always admired these fellas for doing what they do on the track, something I Could only dream about doing and a select few get to do. If I need characters and storylines, I watch WWE for that. You talked about damaging the brand, not having a Kyle Larson in NASCAR at the height of his powers would be a damage to the brand imo.

On that note - in this cancel culture world I am still in disbelief of how quickly he got his job back and everyone seemed to forget about his use of a word that has no place in society.
I think this is the main crux of your angst. The lead was buried deep in the article if you will.

I’m more concerned that this tire could do something similar when running at Dover. That could be dangerous
I don't think it will be as bad at Dover but I am hopeful that NASCAR will see this product is better than what we have had and make sure that there is significant tire fall off. I am also wondering why people are acting like this never happened before. Does no one remember Indy a few years ago? Plus - this used to be part of the sport. Drivers had to manage their tires. "You see Darrell Waltrip using up his tires?!?" LOL

Indy was 20 years ago and not even close bud. They would make it 11 laps on a set.

Why would you think that? I personally don't care that much. I think it was wrong but nothing a person's life should be cancelled over so long as they are willing to admit it is wrong and understand the impact and make amends and changes. As a white male though, I don't feel I have a place to judge the impact. I will say that myself and circle of friends have a very politically incorrect sense of humor and say things to each other that others would be offended by and even I cringed when I heard it. I actually almost felt sorry for him at the time as to how it must have felt knowing the whole world heard that. Also don't understand if firing him was the "right" thing to do then why was it OK for him to get re hired less than a year later? I work in government and if I was heard saying that I would be fired on the spot and never allowed back. Just surprised that people seemed to forget so quickly. I guess it could explain why Hendrick's name is on the car most of the time though.

20? Was it that long ago? I didn't look it up but 2 things there. Indy is higher speed and flat so harder on tires plus 11 laps there is 27.5 miles so not that far off in distance to what they were running a lot of the day yesterday.

Not very close. It was the diamond cut surface at Indy that was shredding tires. Not similar to Bristol where they had control.

Jeff Gluck was inspired by the Bristol race...

He's been doing that stupid crap for 3 years now. It was his way to trash the dirt he hated from the start and now wants to rub it in.

Seriously? I need to change because it bothers me when a star of the sport potentially does damaging the brand? NASCAR has been struggling for a while and to have one of the faces of the sport not better promoting it is not a "good look." There is nothing wrong with the suggestion that he should be more professional than that. He comes across as hypocritical honestly. Nothing to complain about when he wins a boring race and/or uses up another driver to win but god forbid he can't just out run everyone all day. To be clear - I don't have an issue with what he said - I have issue with when and how he said it. If this is not his thing - there's the door and don't let it hit you in the ass on the way out. The sport was fine without him in 2020. On that note - in this cancel culture world I am still in disbelief of how quickly he got his job back and everyone seemed to forget about his use of a word that has no place in society.
You could always hit the mute button to spare yourself when he commences to speaking.

The Hendrick name is on a lot of race cars now days. I just brought that up a couple of weeks ago somewhere in this forum. Hendrick cars .com even sponsors one of the multi championship pro stock cars in NHRA drag racing. I absolutely think sponsoring race cars are benefiting the Hendrick car company.

Somebody was saying one of Kez's trucks was pulling Elliott's trailer at Bristol but it was in fact the #17 Xfinity tractor also sponsored and owned by Hendrick motorsports for the Xfinity series helping Raj who didn't have a ride or sponsorship in the Xfinity series.

I saw that.

Seriously....All I am saying is that there have been races such as that one where tire wear was an issue. I never said anything about diamond cut this or that.

Possibly but you can't tell me he'd rather do that than get someone else's money to put their name on the car. Larson is one of the most talented and well known drivers in the sport and he's in the prime of his career and running up front on the regular. That's a prime sponsorship situation. I can't think that the issue has not caused many companies to avoid sponsoring him since there are keyboard warriors all over the place that will instantly pounce and say "That company is racist for sponsoring Kyle Laron."

“Highlighted by a year-over-year increase in organic traffic for HendrickCars.com and double-digit increases in conversions, vehicle leads, online customer interactions, trade evaluations, and employment applications, Hendrick Automotive Group has measured a three-to-one return on its marketing investment in NASCAR. Each of the website’s highest-traffic days of 2022 have been associated with NASCAR-related initiatives. The company has also utilized Larson as a spokesperson for its corporate social responsibility programs, including $100,000 in contributions to high-school STEM programs in Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina this year.” Taken from this: https://www.hendrickcars.com/blog/2...with-kyle-larson-and-hendrick-motorsports.htm
Sometimes as a businessman it’s best to ignore the key board warriors or internet race team owners to just follow the money

All that sounds great but again you can't tell me Hendrick wouldn't rather take someone else's money. That is a more concrete measurable profit. There is no way to say for sure that any revenue increase is 100% because of this. It's one of those things that you will say what you need to support the decisions you have made. It's not anything will be published where MR H says "uhhhh yeah, I had to put my name on the car because no one will sponsor the guy I hired. It's all about optics.

but what you're saying is conjecture as well. Cant be proven, you dont know what Rick thinks is good business for one of his cars and frankly you're just kind of assuming.

Kinda figured that a long time ago after you kept repeating yourself. Hendrick is making money advertising or he wouldn't be doing it. There are articles from him saying that if you would take the time and do your research instead of nonsense.

So tell me why they choose to have HendrickCars.com on their #17 Xfinity team, on the Spire trucks, on an NHRA team, various dirt/late models, etc?
The fact of the matter is, no-one wants to sponsor Larson.

The fact of the matter is, no-one wants to sponsor Larson.
Here I'll do it for you, took all of a whole minute. There are many more articles saying the same thing.

Five of HendrickCars.com’s six highest-traffic days of the year have been attributed to its sponsorship of the No. 5 team, including four Cup Series race days when Larson led the most laps or won. In February, the reveal of the HendrickCars.com paint scheme drove the site’s highest one-day visitor count in more than 12 months. Since then, it has seen significant increases in overall traffic (up 27%), vehicle sales leads (up 18%), digital retail leads (up 37%) and trade evaluations (up 61%).

I bet the same folks bemoaning "How come sponsors dont sponsor a car for 36 races a year anymore, we really miss that brand identity with the car, number and team" are asking why Larson cant find sponsors when the team and driver does end up getting the same sponsor for 33/36 races. You can write this stuff. Also seems HMS and Rick willingly signed HendrickCars.com to coincide with Larson's newest extension. That tells me all involved are seeing what they want to and more with ROI of HendrickCars.com. This is all very common sense and business school 101, no inside information.

HendrickCars.com is going to advertise somewhere. Can you tell me Rick would rather see those ad dollars going in some else's pockets?

This isn't unique to Hendrick. Red Bull essentially has four F1 cars to promote their product. No way they're selling primary space to anyone at any price.
