Choices. About to drop cable and go with Chromecast or Roku. But don't know which way to lean. Any inputs? Plus/minus for either one?

A couple of my favorite shows (Walking Dead, Game of Thrones) might be a challenge to watch, but the amount of money saving outweighs that little detail.

Walking dead episodes air on Monday morning following the Sunday's broadcast on the innerweb at AMC. com.
One problem solved.......

Problem is, looks like you have to sign in with your cable login. No cable, no cable login? Or am I doing it wrong. :idunno:

I have the Roku box (it has an HDMI connection). It seems to work fine. My problem with streaming is I have 6 Meg service and streaming ties up my internet service and at 6M movies are 720pi (which is what most Comcast HD is).

I miss renting DVDs because at the store you can browse movies easier (and I typically ended up getting "B" movies). You just can't easily browse as many movies on the internet as you could at Blockbuster (and good luck finding anything other than the most popular movies).

That's the only thing that I don't like about Redbox.

I used to enjoy Blockbuster, until the one we had in town got a new manager. She would essentially hound you to buy candy, popcorn, whatever as you checked out. Couldn't take it, that's when I switched to Netflix. Not long after, Blockbuster was gone.

I googled walking dead episodes and YIDIO and WATCH-TV bounced back.

I love my Roku 3. Tons of channels and apps. Don't worry about saving a little money and get the Roku 2, just go with the 3. The hardware is so much better and you will get a better internet connection.

Chromecast doesn't have a user interface and you have to stream from your phone or tablet. Plus I've heard the screen mirroring, which I believe is still beta, terribly sucks. Also, the content is kinda limited from what I hear.

To clarify, my opinions from Roku are from hands on experience, while the Chromecast is just hearsay from other friends that have used.

Roku for the variaty of free channels plus channels you can add, and Chromecast for the simplicity and the low cost.

Cant beat 35 bucks for the same services.

I'd personally go with Chromecast.

As far as your Walking Dead goes, I can help you with that.

Free to use, you can stream the shows from there. They even have all of the Talking Dead episodes neatly in order for your convinience to watch.

Soooo much shows to choose from. The internet is a lovely place.

I have a few other streaming sites I can give but I find that one to be particularly above the rest.

Roku is for bamfs only

Oh yeah? What can the roku stream? As far as file types goes?

Let me throw another media player in the ring. WD TV Live

I have one of those and I love it. Plays virtually anything you can throw at it.

If I wanna stream something Ill just use my laptop. I loved the variety Roku had.

I dont watch alot of TV anyway unless its sports. So mainly just ~4-8hrs a week.

I really wanted to go one of those routes to save a little money, but I am a huge overall sports fan and I'm addicted to my DVR, so I ended up getting DirecTV back. I got a great introductory rate again since I had been gone for nearly a year.

I have one as well. Thats what I had before my Roku. It was good for playing media off my external hard drive, but the app/channel selection was limited. Now I dont need it. I just use the Plex channel to watch anything on my computer.
