The quality of racing was in contrast to the Sprint All-Star Race the previous week on the same track. NASCAR changed its rear-toe alignment rules for the All-Star Race, restricting the amount of “skew” teams can employ to improve handling and stability. As a result, there hardly were any spins in the longest race of the season as several drivers said their cars felt more comfortable on the 1.5-mile oval...

Definitely need to take away the rear skew permanently like they did for the ASR.

Hard to compare a short race for no points and a huge incentive to win with a points race that is extremely lengthy and requires patience.

Something went well, brain will now muck around and screw it up/.

Every once in a while, a team will hit on something and make everyone else look bad. No need for panic just yet. Heck, Kyle Petty did the same thing at Rockingham for 2 years in a row and NASCAR didn't change the rules, they just hired his crew chief (twice).

And yet, this board went giddy when the new package trials were announced for Michigan and Kentucky....

I dont like this knee jerk reaction

Knee Jerk Reaction is BF's middle name:

Matt Kenseth dominated the championship? Let's create a non-nonsensical playoff system
People complain about Gordon missing the Chase? Let's destroy our Chase rules and make it a 13-car playoff.
Tony Stewart complains about lugnuts? Let's stop all the cars on pit road to check lugs (after we fine, him of course.)
One bad race? Let's go back to the drawing board on aero after a season that has included some of the best races in a decade

I'm sure others could add to this list.

“But also certainly a challenging race for us and things we’ve already learned and going to back to the drawing board, and one of our stated goals is passing up front. That was not what we saw (Sunday) night."

IDK if the rule should be changed or not but I do know that good racing is not predicated on the number of lead changes or passing up front or every race would have a plate.

They had to catch Truex to pass him. No one did that with the exception of Johnson when Truex was working traffic. Then "The Closer" passed Johnson but couldn't get to Truex.

That's what "we" saw Sunday night.

The race was boring because it was a night race. Aero rules have nothing to do with it.

The cars handle better at night because there's more grip, thus taking handling completely out of it. That means the fastest car dominates. Truex dominated Kansas too before Cole Pearn ****** it up for him. Truex has had the fastest car all year and the only reason people aren't complaining about the 600 being boring is because a popular driver won.

Why I hate NASCAR night races. To me, night races in NASCAR are the equivalent to NFL teams playing in domes.

So no martinsville under the lights?

Yep, everyone's just happy because Truex won. If Kyle Busch or Joey Logano had blown them out like this, fans would've hated the race.

IMO if JJ, Harvick, JLo or Kyle was putting a hurting on the field like the 78 did the fans would have left early like they used to after Dale retired from races back in the 80's and 90's.

The racing at the ASR was no better. 9 laps of good followed by a train. Just the way it is.

I didn't see the racing at the ASR as being different either. Sometimes I think I am watching something completely different then what most others are.....or I need my eyes checked.

I think you guys are over-reacting to the article. NASCAR learned that the teams use Real wheel alignment to get better aero. When NASCAR doesn't allow this, the racing is better.

What I don't understand is why it's taken NASCAR 20 years to learn that Aero is bad.

The All-Star Race had good finishes, and a confusing cluter****erish format, so the fans forgot about the race itself. Martin Truex, Jr. won and his wife had cancer so that made it a great race. Fox did the Indianapolis 500 Wife Watch thing as an added bonus.

The 600 was a terrible race. Probably not the most boring race I've ever seen but it's in the top 10 for sure.

Which includes the rear skew adjustment they already did for the ASR as well as going in the same general direction with reducing the splitter and spoiler. If that's not enough...what else is there? I hope they don't start fiddling around with smaller spacers or something.

I've said it a dozen times before. I don't think we will see any real changes in quality of racing until NASCAR changes the body design of these cars.

Do away with the splitters and side skirts. Make shock packages matter again.

While we are at it, get rid of the tapered spacer and give the boys their HP back.

Yeah, this. OTOH, F1 and Indycar have had 40 years to study the question, and still have not figured it out. Nascar us way ahead if those guys.

Amen. And don't mandate things like gear ratios, spoiler angles, and shock packages.

Even though it was a butt whoopin', Sunday's race was a little different in that, because it was Truex, we were all waiting to see if that team would botch the win away like they have so many times before. That provided a little more drama than would have existed had the race been dominated by Kyle Busch, Logano, etc.

Night races are made for your local short track, not for NASCAR.
I was glad to see Richmond change one race this year back to a Sunday afternoon, and to see Texas announce the same for next year. I just completed a survey from Charlotte and encouraged them to move their October date to a day race. It's just easier for me to attend day races in the Southeast. I'm not worn out so much that I can't drive home safely in the afternoon, and I don't have to shell out for a hotel room afterward.

Oh, and one race isn't reason enough to start discussing changes. Try the ASR stuff at Kentucky and Michigan but otherwise let the season play out with the current configuration.

I keep forgetting they repaved Kentucky. That's gonna be an awful ****** race.

I can't say I noticed any more skew than any other race. And, it looked like guys were getting plenty loose at times.... like Truex

I recommend going to a more standard IROC spec with Goody's Dash series hp. The DASH had some amazing racing. I guess the cars would have to be smaller in length and height.

This is happening, and I think it will be more significant for my Toyotas than many might think. Time for my TRD guys to start pulling all nighters.
