why wasnt JJ penalized for a tire out of the pit, after his crash, he left the pit and a tire was laying on its side outside his pit area? just wondering...I went back and looked and it was on its side outside his pit area

I noticed that. If he was penalized they didn't mention it. At least not that I heard.

As reck said, the penalty is to start at the back of the pack, which he already was anyways.

I think as long as he didn't speed, a pass thru wouldn't apply while the yellow was flying? Under green I think it would have been a pass thru penalty?

I guess #16 is a tire penalty. Looks like the 48 didn't have their tire half way across pit row, so no penalty for that.

Enforcement of pit box rules is very inconsistent. Some officials act as a 7th guy and catch tires and put tools back over the wall.

Pretty amazing work by Chad.. His driver struggles having to race in traffic, overheats the bead, blows the tire, slams the wall, knocks a plug wire off, leaves the pit with a tire out of the box and still finishes in front of 30 other cars. At this rate, Chad will be inducted into the HOF before he retires

You want something to cry about? he gained 3 points on second place, lost 6 to third, gained 12 on fourth. Finishing well every week is where ya win championships. The rest of them should be glad he was running around with a plug wire off for over half the race.o_O

Nah all good, I wasn't meaning that for anyone in particular, it shows why he is on the top. They seldom have a bad day, fixed him up and stayed on the lead lap. the tire, according to the rules I found and posted wasn't a penalty. Only penalty I have seen called on a tire was when it rolled in to the infield. IMO compared to TNT, ESPN is a big step up. No huge banner blocking the racing, no "I ate the bones" every 5 seconds, and they had good camera shots of the racing. They can't catch everything, and a tire laying on it's side isn't as important as the front shot they had that showed the damage repair. I was looking hard at the fender and the front tire to see if it was screwed up. somebody in the booth knew that is what needed to be shown. TNT would have probably been shooting the pace car. [IMG]
