In the past 3 years there have been 5 qualifyign session at Talladega (the fall 2002 session was rained out and the field set "according to the rule book.")

No driver recorded top 5 efforts or top 10 effforts in all 5 sessions. The only driver to record top 15 efforts in all 5 sessions was Jeff Gordon. The only drivers to record top 20 efforts in all 5 sessions were Jeff Gordon and Mark Martin.

Actually it is probably the anti Jr.-Mikey crowd that is confused.

DEI has actually been out-qualified during this time-frame by Chip Ganassi racing.

Junior and Mikey (10 attempts) 2 top 5 starts, 4 top 10 starts, 5 top 15 starts.

Sterling, Jamie, and Casey (9 attempts) 4 top 5 starts, 6 top 10 starts, 8 top 15 starts.

10 attemps vs. 9 attemps

Just pointing out that DEI doesn't dominate qualifying at Talladega... They save that for race day...

Dale Earnhardt Jr is the only driver to recorded top 10 finishes in each of the last 6 Talladega races....

In fact, no other driver has even recorded top 15 or top 20 finishes in each of the last 6 Talladega races. The next best is Ricky Craven and Dale Jarrett who have recorded top 25 finishes in all 6 races.

Here's some more qualifying notes.

I'll have a similar set of notes up for the race finishes sometime tonight.

Wow, very interesting. Where are all the DEI people?
They don't get the special plates until race day :p

Well, I don't see it as splitting hairs. 10 qualifying attempts is 10 qualifying atttempts. 9 qulaifying attempts is 9 qualifying attempts. I don't really see how the number of drivers matters... especially when the point was to demonstrat that DEI doesn't dominate qualifying at Talladega and that other teams have out performed them on qualifying day.
