It's interesting that the reduced downforce rules implemented for Michigan and Kentucky didn't produce higher ratings.

^ I also think it did. Kentucky was a damn good race considering the repave. And how long has it been since Michigan produced a race ranked as high as #10 out of 18?

If that "low-low" aero package is what we get next year, and also Goodyear has time to optimize the tires for it, I think most tracks will offer up fantastic racing. And for the drivers who are whining about it, I say "Man up! It's not supposed to be easy! That's why you're making the big bucks."

I will hold off on calling Michigan a success until we see a race with the base 2016 package. Just to be fair.

A Joey Logano Michigan win followed by a Brad Keselowski Kentucky win..... What more needs to be said?
Sad but true. OTOH, the first Chase Elliott win or the next Dale Jr win will likely test the theoretical limits of how close the average can be to 10.0 without going over.

I get your point about comparing rules packages, but just judging Michigan I as a race, I thought it was awesome. A real test of skill, with sizable off-throttle time and a big speed differential between straightaway and mid-corner apex speeds. The cars were able to run close together, and a faster car could manage to pass a slower one, IMO. And giving Goodyear time to optimize the tires would only make it better.

The Brickyard will need Kyle, JLo and BKez to crash themselves out on the first lap plus a win by Dale Jr (if he is even racing this week) in order not to be the lowest rated race of the year I think. This race used to be such a huge deal in the state of Indiana but like the 500 it doesn't get much coverage as Hoosiers are apathetic. It should be a scalding hot day for the race as temps are forecast to muggy in the mid 90's with 60% chance of thunder storms.

To the best of my knowledge this is the first race I have ever seen in the 3's although either of the MIS races last year may have been. I know everyone has their own criteria for judging a race but for me a 0 is something worthless. A 2.5 would have very little to offer and a 5 would be ho hum. A 7.5 and up with be very, very good but it is hard for me to rate a race higher than 9.....but I will love it if/when that changes.

June Michigan was a 3.52 last year, Indy wasn't far off.

A few years back if someone would have told me that Nascar fans on an online forum would have races from Cali, Atlanta, Pocono x 2, plus MIS and New Hampshire rated ahead of Bristol I would have wanted to know where they are getting their medical marijuana. Spring or summer Bristol was must see racing but Bruton developed the goose that laid the golden egg and then killed it.

I rarely visit Twitter, bit it is interesting to compare our poll to Jeff Gluck's poll on twitter, which apparently started with Atlanta. His question is, "Was this a good race, yes or no?"

Fixing things that aren't broken never pays off :(

^ Proving yet again that many Nascar "fans" crave on track racing that resembles an MMA brawl in the octagon more than anything else. It's not news.

In all the years I attended racing at Bristol I never saw anything that resembled a brawl although I did see Geoff Bodine, Kyle Petty, Dale Jarrett and Jeff Green get a little hot under the collar at times.

The track was more difficult to drive before Bruton ruined it and it was truly a case of "lead, follow or get out of the way." Normally if a car was holding up another he would get tapped several times for 3-5 laps and if he didn't yield he was rooted out of the way. Of course back then drivers possessed the skill set to navigate pit road at speed, knew how to bump draft properly at plate tracks and knew how to move a guy without wrecking them far more then they do today.

Yeah, they're all such pussies today. Wish I had one of them DeLorean time machines so I could go back to when men were men and cars were cars... SMH.

Thanks, Yoda. Looking over that list... Wow, what a great year of racing 2016 has been. Despite the Toyota speed advantage, and too many wins by cars I want to see get beaten, it has been a great year so far, and more to come. Low downforce rocks!
