I saw the spring race as about a 6 and still can't fathom why the race was liked so much asI must have been napping during the good stuff. Hope you are still loving your new truck!

I agree with both Dover ratings. The May race was a certified barn burner, with the outcome decided at the very end between multiple drivers who left it all out there on the racetrack. The fall race was a boring display of sissy driving points racing... bleh.

Just FYI, Jeff Gluck's poll remains in sync with the R-F poll (on both Dover races).

I think two big things contribute to the disparity.

1. None of the top guys wanted to mix it up too much and miss advancing in the chase.

2. I think teams have made up a lot of the lost downforce.

I don't understand how this is allowed, did NASCAR not mandate that they have to keep the same amount of downforce?
NASCAR mandates the body configurations, etc.. The teams have figured out what to do with the non-mandated settings to increase the amount of downforce.

It looks like the second races are almost all lower than the first ones.

I am surprised to see Kentucky ranked as low as it is considering the fuel mileage finish, and what I thought was decent racing for a repave.

I was extremely bored at work today, so I took all the ratings from this year along with some racing reference data to see what predicts positive ratings on this board in a regression. Nothing very surprising. It seems that fans here rate short tracks & road courses higher, along with races with more lead changes and narrower margins of victory. Restrictor plates are the omitted category & the lowest rated. Lead changes is the strongest predictor of rating. Surprisingly, cautions don't matter (if I had more time, I'd adjust for BS cautions).

'Liked' your post but not the results.

FYI, the Jeff Gluck poll also rated the race poorly. Voters were 50:50 on the question, "Was it a good race?" Gluck wondered if fans are becoming fatigued from the long season, as second visits to a track have usually scored lower than the first visit. Another possible theory... Winner Logano has fewer fans.

Jeff Gluck's weekly poll has generally tracked closely with the R-F poll, but the two are radically different this week. FWIW, I agree with the Gluck poll as Homestead is a perfect racetrack for Cup cars, and this year was a barn-burner of a race with close skill-based competition and plenty of championship drama. Others obviously disagree.
