Talladega Sees Best Ever NASCAR Rating in NFL Season

NBC Sports’ broadcast of the EA Sports 500 from Talladega delivered the highest-ever national rating for any auto race against pro football competition. The race earned a 5.5 national rating/ 12 share, a 15 percent increase over last year’s 4.8/11, according to national ratings by Nielsen Media Research.

The 5.5/12 for Sunday’s EA Sports 500 is a 6 percent increase over the previous best national rating against pro football competition, a 5.2/11 for last year’s season finale Ford 400 from Homestead-Miami Speedway where Tony Stewart won the 2002 NASCAR Winston Cup Championship

Over the past three years, since NBC & TNT began televising the second half of the NASCAR Winston Cup season, NASCAR Winston Cup racing from Talladega has seen a ratings increase of 83 percent, from a 3.0/9 converted U.S. household rating on ESPN in 2000 to this Sunday’s 5.5/12 on NBC.

Through 13 races in 2003, NASCAR on NBC & TNT has delivered a 4.4 /11, a two percent increase over last year’s record breaking average of a 4.3/11 through the comparable weekend. The average excludes the Daytona 500 and primetime Pepsi 400, the two races that alternate between NBC and Fox each year. (NBC Sports Press Release) (10/2)
