The real championship thread

Here's a question for y'all . Was ' win and you're in ' an attempt to give Danica a chance to make the chase ? After all, she might have pulled off a Trevor Bayne at Daytona .
I always thought when NASCAR expanded the chase from the top 10 to the top 12 was an attempt to keep Dale Jr relevant.

Oddly enough, had the current format been used in 2013, he would've been the champion.

In F1 they are awarding double points for the final race. Dumbest thing ever. Be glad that NASCAR doesn't have that going on.

I think some of us have handled the new chase format kind of like the 5 stages of death:

Denial (there's no way they'll ever do this to the chase)

Anger (they better not do this to the chase or I'm done with NASCAR!)

Bargaining (well, maybe they're just floating this idea to see what everybody thinks)

Depression (oh no, they really did this to the chase)

Acceptance (well, I guess this is what we've got, let's see how it goes)

looks like almost all of you guys are still stuck somewhere in 1st 4 stages ! :D

yep. dinger too. wildcard rule.

Makes the drivers try harder to win . Check out Joey's stats . He does better at the higher paying races .
He just does better. Period :D

I duno about higher paying races but I know he does what he's had to when needed... hopefully up to and including his first Martinsville win to lock him into the final 4 :)

Yeah , I don't think Martinsville is that big a payin race as some of the others . He may let that one slide to Landon Cassill or Timmy Hill. :)

What do you mean when you say "higher paying?" Do you mean races inside the Chase, or races which actually earn you more money, like the most prestigious ones?

Just 7 points ahead of second.

That is outrageous.

Just wait. The unofficial (unfortunately) points are coming soon.

Edit for clarification: hold your anger till you see the "old, illegitimate, living in the past, so those championships don't count" standings.

BTW, for anyone who cares, this would be Jeff's 7th championship if Brian France never happened.

The same way Earnhardt and Petty did it.

w/ 3 more races left ?
that sounds familiar. :D

There's a little mistake. Tony Stewart would be in 25th.

There is no way to know for certain that Jeff would have won 5 and 6.

Why do so many people have such a hard time grasping such a simple concept?

Yeah, there isn't. But I find fascinating to explore all the different "what if?" scenarios.

Maybe not in '04, but with as much as Gordon would have won the '07 title by based on how they ran, I think it's pretty safe to say he would have been the 2007 champion but for the chase. I don't believe "they would have raced different" can explain away a 353 point lead.

ha! great answer sb !

I just seriously.. cannot understand why this is STILL being dragged out like it is. Yes guys we get it. You all hate the chase.

I just cant imagine that these ppl have actually been doing this for 10 years now... I'm getting tired of it just after 10 months from 2014. So they MUST be getting tired of complaining.. right? One can only hope lol

NASCAR Fans be like...

I actually wouldn't mind doing these 10 years in a row. They're fun.

This is the could of, would of, should of, 20/20 hindsight thread..as the thread founder ol Jeb is fond of saying. $hit in one hand and wish in the other and see what fills up first..pretty much sums up this whole thread.
