: Top Gear, the world's biggest car show, sends host Richard Hammond to Texas, fully immersing the native-Brit in the world of NASCAR. During his visit to Texas Motor Speedway, Hammond explores the history of NASCAR and discovers how the sport evolved into the spectacle that it is today. He also discusses American motorsport culture and learns what it's like to be behind the wheel of a machine running 800-850 horsepower from those who know best, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stars Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon and Juan Pablo Montoya. Hammond even gets a driving lesson from Kyle Petty, former NASCAR driver and son of NASCAR legend Richard Petty. NASCAR fans and petrol-heads alike can catch all the action from race weekend when this episode of Top Gear premieres on BBC AMERICA Monday, April 30 at 8:30pm et/pt (NASCAR)(4-18-2012)

Okay how many Top Gear fans are on here? The original Brit version not the American knock off.

Don't have BBC America most of the year, so I only know the American one.

I'm a huge fan of the original. The American knock off I don't care for. Probably cause of that idiot Ruthledge or whatever the heck his name is.

Lmao, wouldn't it be better for Hammond to give the driving lesson to Kyle?

Just in case you don't know ...Kyle Petty had 8 wins ; 52 top 5's and 173 top 10's in a 25 year Nascar career. Not too shabby considering some of the teams that he drove for. I don't think that he needs any lessons from a TV host.

Wow, why the hell would Richard Hammond be asking JPM about NASCAR racing?

Because most British people (the bulk of BBC watchers), are formula one fans. JPM used to drive Formula one. In fact, he is a winning driver in that sport. Something very few can say they are.

JPM is one of like 3 guys that has driven Formula one and NASCAR.

It's to put perspective on their point of view toward NASCAR.

You are welcome Bobby :)

WTF ? Are you serious ? I don't like the guy but he is one of the top twenty drivers in the world . If he drove for Hendrick or Roush , things might be different . What a snob.

I just figured they should get a perspective from maybe the top 10 drivers in the sport. JPM is not one of the top 10 drivers in the NASCAR Cup series.
2 wins in almost 200 races? Not exactly the guy I would be looking to interview.

Great point Moe. It seems weird that the BBC would cater the people who actually watch their show. :)

And no oval wins either.

What a bunch a crap. Only the top ten drivers know enough to be interviewed ? Really ? That's all you got ?

I can't wait to hear the "Brit" interveiw the "Columbian" I'll have to tape it so I can replay it a few times to determine what they say :D Us Southern boys are a bit slow you know.

I hear you flash. I was trying to watch a trucker show the other night with Austrailians and Suthern boys talkin, the wife hollered at me about having the tv so loud . I was just trying to make out what they were saying.

Including a special segment with Ward Burton.

So if he were driving for Hendrick you think he would win races? While he was great in open wheel he just doesn't seem to get Nascar.

Can you seriously not take a joke? Yes, I know all about Kyle's career.

2 wins in 200 races doesn't make someone an authority, hell even Mikey has more wins than JPM..................and Mikey never hammered a near-stationary jet dryer :D

Oh for crissakes. JPM knows a thousand times more about driving in NASCAR than every one of us combined.
True, but he knows very little about winning NASCAR races and even less about being a NASCAR Champion. They'd get more out of an interview with DW.

Do you not understand that winning 2 cup races is a big deal? And JPM is a bigger star internationally than all of the other drivers combined.

Sure winning two races is a big deal, but Gordon winning 85 races is a bigger deal. I don't believe JPM is a bigger star in the UK.

Yeah, Ol' DW would probably throw in a little stuffed Digger for the interviewers kids. Who wouldn't want one of those? ;)

It is funny as all heck that people are arguing over the credentials of JPM. The guy would be adding the perspective of a non typical view of NASCAR coming from such a diverse background. I'm interested in hearing his thoughts/views on the sport more than the same ol', same ol' of the ever complaining Kyle Petty. I like Kyle and all, but his shtick is getting old. Maybe that's just me?

I don't think that we need to run down our Nascar drivers on this forum, there are plenty of Nascar haters who do that at every opportunity . I get a little tired of defending my being a Nascar fan .

I'm afraid you're in an uphill battle there but it's yours to fight.

Professional sports bring fan criticism and Nascar isn't immune to that and most likely never will be.

Hell if if it's diversity they're after then I think Tony Stewart is the guy to interview; USAC Champ, IRL Champ, IROC, Cup...
