Qualified 23rd and was 31st in Happy Hour at Charlotte, of all places  Neither of these two things have anything to do with luck so is it time for Gustafson to take a hike?

I wouldn't pay any mind to final practice speeds. Not much use being fast at noon for a night race. Same thing happened at Texas where they stated 34th and finished 4th.

We will see tonight. He said that they were working on how different changes affected the car when the track changes.

Replacing a successful CC because of a mid pack qualifying effort and being relatively slow in practice seems a bit much.

I don't choose to ignore his position in the standings so I base my thoughts on more than just this weekend.

We'll check back here in November and see how things are going.

I don't think the CC can be blamed for blown engines, wrecks and punctured tires. The cars have been fast. Alan will be with the 24 for as long as Jeff decides to race.

I remember Sr saying Gordon was the only one who could drive thru debris and not cut down a tire while everyone else did. Racing luck, wrong place right time.

I blame Rick for putting the 88 with the 48, that's benefited Jr and cost Jeff, also it's Danica's fault somehow. When all else fails blame Dale Jr and Danica. :sarcasm:

and Sr was the only one who could wreck people, make passes in the grass, fix his car during a black flag, stop in the middle of pit road and let the crew come out and work on the car and kick reporters, who all loved him.

Some of the crazies on the JG Network have convinced themselves that Rick is sabotaging the 24 team. When I dare to ask them why Rick would do such a thing they yell at me for not respecting their right to have an opinion. Good times.

Knaus...maybe. Hendrick? I seriously doubt it.

I bet somebody changed out the phonebook he uses to sit on to be able to see over the steering wheel. You know they are not as thick as they used to be???

As has been stated, blown engines, broken parts, being taken out in freak wrecks, team mate cutting down your tire, not the CCs fault. Chad and Rick would do just about anything to have J.J. win 7 or 8 championships but sabotaging J.G. to do it, never happen. Chad would get the better motors cars and parts if he could but so would Alan and any other CC in the sport.

Jimmie and Chad should be thankful that Jeff Gordon and Ray Evernham are not sitll paired up. NASCAR wouldn't have altered the points system and allowed "5-time" two of his handed-to-him championships. Jimmie would have actually had to beat Jeff straight up; something he wouldn't have been able to do without NASCAR's help.

That , right there , is fuunnnnyyyy.:D

He's had some pretty bad luck this year, no doubt about it. I think the performance of the car has been decent at most places but not all that great. I thought after last year they'd come out swinging but that didn't happen. I don't see them recovering to make the Chase, which I hope I'm wrong. You figure we're already one third into the season, some guys that are inconsistent have some wins already so it'd realistically take about 3-4 wins plus getting in that top 20. Don't see it happening.

I would think if things don't start improving soon the 24s' CC might be out of a job, something is definetly not right on that team.

Don't worry their just saving the car for tonight, 600 miles is a long way!

I really need for the 24 to make the chase , I predicted four Hendrick cars in the top ten and I need to win this thing. It really doesn't matter to me what crew chief he does it with , just so my bold prediction isn't wrong.

LOL
I just wish people were better informed. To blame Alan for what's happened with the 24 this year is just not something an informed person would do.

Try to understand that we're not as perfect as you appear to be. Hit the ignore button.

I understand what you are saying to a point, but there is just so much bad luck that can happen before some one gets blamed.;)

I think they are just havin fun with ya Matt . That #24 tattoo is like an on/off button , every time they press it you go off. It must be a lot more fun in the Jeff Gordon Forum . :D

FWIW past CCs

  • Ray Evernham: Final race of 1992 to September 1999
  • Brian Whitesell : September 1999 through seasons end
  • Robbie Loomis: 2000 through race #26 of the 2005 season
  • Steve Letarte: Final 10 races of 2005 through 2010
  • Alan Gustafson: 2011 to present
I don't think Gustafson is the problem.
The problem is a mystery to me, I do think something is missing. But this combo was excellent during the regular season last year, while there have been some Chase fades, and some droughts going back to Letarte.

Still Gustafson is no slouch and Gordon has not forgot how to drive. We dont have internal knowledge, the only thing I would do is ban the phrase "bad luck" within the team. Again this may not be an isssue, it just the only thing I can imagine and I do believe in self fulfilling prophecy.

I would leave things as they are until the season ends at least, maybe they will race their way out the slump. Sometimes the best adjustment in no adjustment.
