Wow, is it run down. There were having an SCCA race the next day, so i got in since pits were still open. I was visiting a friend at A&M.

Click thumbs for bigger pic. Taken with my phone in the dark, so poor quality, sorry.

I remember when they raced there.

Really?

During a January 2009 test, Greg Biffle managed to reach 218 miles per hour (351 km/h) in a test for Roush Fenway Racing as part of evading NASCAR's testing ban. This became the fastest time ever achieved on this track by any competitor (amateur or professional).

Just looking at the track, I would be scared chitless to go very fast on it- I'd definately be wanting safety crews galore, and walk the track 2 or 3 times.

Actually pretty good pictures Magnethead, thanks for sharing.

I remember races there. The track is a copy of Michigan. AJ Foyt always entered races there and ran quite well there.

TWS isn't really that bad my car club goes there once a year and we were there this past May. Yes the old oval isn't in very good shape and the old grand stands are closed, but most of the racing is done on the 2.9 road course. If it was so bad why is the place booked up every weekend from March thru Nov. without any complaints?

btw the BMW (beemer racing) club race there every year, and raced there the weekend my car club was there.

What shut TWS down?

Crappy management. The owners let the track fall apart, NASCAR and IndyCar both dropped it in the 1980s.

TWS reopened the oval in 1993 for an ARCA SuperCar Series race, but that was the last time they hosted a major stock car race on the TWS oval. Like Mag says, the road course is actually in solid shape and is used every week for club racing.
