Larson had a lockup and flat spotted a tire, and he didn't think he could hold off the cars behind him on the restart, so they decided to pit for tires. Unfortunately not many others pitted.

I am sure Larson is aware that Truex has a ton of playoff points, and he also knows from personal experience that one point can make the difference of advancing. I think he would love to have Truex out of the playoffs early.
