The packs at Daytona used to get broken up a bit on the old asphalt, which caused tire wear.

Two of the most iconic Daytona moments are last lap wrecks (1976 and 1979), we seem to get that pretty regularly now. Racing evolves. It’s the one constant.

Saving fuel is a strategy call, which is also part of racing. It’s not very entertaining but you have to do what you can to put yourself in position to win.

The perfect pack race was the 2001 spring Talladega race when drivers raced like they had some sense because they had just watched Dale die. Most of the problems that people have with pack racing are because of bonehead drivers. People would rather blame the style of racing than hold drivers...

The aesthetics of the car and a wreck at a 1.5 have nothing to do with pack racing.

The aero package of the early-mid 2000s produced perfect pack racing.

I am just relieved that neither the Preacher or Felon won tonight.
