I believe 2018 was the first year of no 8-8 teams in the seasons in which 16 games were played. As for no 7-7’s prior to 1978 I’m not sure.
Looked it up, it was 1987. But that’s only because it was a 15 game season due to the strike.
My guess would be 1977, the last year of the 14 game schedule, but I’m probably wrong.
