2017 Bristol - Food City 500 - Pre Race Thread

I'm setting the over / under on when the call this sucker at 1:00 pm. Place your bets.
In my opinion they should make the call early in the morning, no later than 9. A lot of fans can save time and money by not parking in a mud bog for several hours waiting for what appears to be an inevitable call.

As a fan who has been in this situation, I don't wait for NASCAR to make the call. I'd already be planning what other regional activities I could do today. Actually, we'd have planned them yesterday and would likely already be about them.

NASCAR can be slow to announce what's written on the wall. That doesn't mean I can't read it for myself.

We always plan ahead in case of rain. For the Coke 600 we'll be in Charlotte until Wednesday morning going to the HOF, the race shops and do other things. The following week in Dover we'll stay and look around until Tuesday morning. We also have a buffer zone to stay longer if necessary. The perks of traveling with an RV.

Thinkin’ the weather guessers took a hit yesterday ‘n those longin’ for a show saw one thru. Ain’t lookin’ like there’s a glimmer of hope for this’n.

Until favorable weather, reckon we’ll be entertained by rumors goin’ wild, objective evaluations of driver appearance including skin condition ‘n witty nick-name creations.

Well, its passed 9 and NASCAR has not cancelled yet. I

It is odd when we look back and talk about races we have been to, we always first remember the ones with terrible weather. Don't ever recall us saying, remember that trip to Dover when it was sunny and in the 70's. No, its more like how about that time at Charlotte where we camped out in the rain all day only for them to cancel and then run both the Cup and Busch series races the next day or the time it snowed in Atlanta or when the first Daytona 400 night race was cancelled because of fires...

I much prefer nascar calling a race a few hours before the green flag rather than sitting through 3 hours of rain delay coverage and fans at the track subject to miserable conditions.

A proactive nascar is admirable.

Might be time to rethink the month this race is held.
Exactly. Rain has been an issue for what, the last 5 years? Its the same issue with a late day daytona race in July. Rain is almost inevitable.

For me it's Last week's F1 race from Bahrain on DVR which should lead into this week's Indy Car race from Barber. Does anyone know what channel tomorrow's race will be on?

I feel for all the people that won't be able to stick around in Bristol to see the race whenever it will be run. It is absolutely beautiful here so I was planning on heading out and was going to try and squeeze the race in between the time I got home and the Leafs-Caps game tonight. The delay until tomorrow works perfectly for me as I can record the race and watch it tomorrow in the late afternoon.

Maybe a Tuesday race:confused:

Right. They snuck in yesterday s race, I hope ed today might at least start.

Kinda damp here, 450 to 500 miles east.

Temperature is absolutely fantastic no matter what my wife says.

Yeah, if the sport isn't worth your time to watch, then I don't hardly see how logging onto a message board dedicated to said sport just to notify everyone that you no longer care and aren't watching is...

Seems futile.

Obviously, (like me), he still loves the sport and (like me) enjoys the knowledge of racing and Camaraderie found here.

Someone, please start a thread of "Things to Do in Lieu of Watching the Race". I have a couple activities I can discuss on a public forum.

Theres a chit chat forum

Just curious, when qualifying is canceled the starting grid is set according to points. (I think at one time they used the fastest laps during practice). Does the pole winner earn a spot in the Clash when qualifying is canceled?

You Leafs fans will grow to love Lou Lamoriello. He is a hockey wizard and guided my NJ Devils to 3 titles in 5 Stanley Cup Finals. They were a joke before he took over.
