Who Will Replace Jr in the 88/25 Car?

The last time Jr left a team they knew there would be a backlash, so they went for the most universally likable driver around: Mark Martin. He's already ran part time schedules for Hendrick. They should call him back, have him split time with a young guy running part time again. ;)

I was actually kidding. Have you seen Jeffery Earnhardt's driving? Hendrick shouldn't waste a seat on him.

You never know though. A decent team, some veteran drivers to coach him, and he may be alright.

Let Jeff Gordon pick someone, worked last time.

Jimmie Johnson would agree with you.

I think it'll be Bowman. He earned it. Should be him. I wouldn't be upset it it were Byron. He may be ready. He's done a phenomenal job this year so far in the Xfinity car.

I think it will be Bowman just a gut feeling but see Byron going to the 5 with his sponsers since farmers is leaving

eh, still would like to see what he could do in an upper tier Xfinity ride. He never really had a shot at lower tier series good equipment and then some reason rushed to Cup

I bet there are owners looking to sign and protect their
young protoges today. There may be a land rush
over the next 8 months.

Hope its Bowman, with the 25 brought back. Wonder if Nationwide will still stick around?

So who do you suggest? I don't know why people can't accept that Edwards is gone, gone, gone. Larson is leading the points where he is, and Jones and Blaney are affiliated with teams at least as good as Hendrick. Why should they jump ship? The sponsors were happy enough with Bowman on an interim basis. Besides, in this day of shrinking sponsor dollars, Bowman will cost a lot less than any of those others.
Probably because Carl refuses to say he retired, has implied he'll likely drive again at least in some capacity, hell he even brought his helmet and firesuit to Atlanta and said he'd be ready to go if anyone needed a sub.

Didn't Jeffery run a race or two for Jr. Motorsports?

yea two or so. I'd like to see what he could do a Full season. I believe he ran well I cant find anything on racing reference.com, I thought he finished 15th at a Richmond race.

The Silverado will look mighty fine compared to the Tonka toy that many other teams will be using. Nascar is in the midst of a very large market correction in all areas but broadcast revenue and when the current contract is up Nascar Races may be taped delayed and shown on OWN.
I lost what little respect I had for you when you acknowledged even knowing about OWN. I had to Google it.

I still can't figure out when Bowman became an official HMS employee. He's obviously never driven a full-time car for them in cup, and has only made a few starts in the lower series for JRM using their equipment. Is the seat Bowman's by default because there's not really anyone else available? Seems that way to me.

Who is Jr going to replace in the TV booth next year..... Jeff Burton at NBC who will be moved to studio role or DW who "retires" at Fox? Personally I think Jr and Letarte would kill it at NBC

Seems to me it's his by default because of his performance as a substitute last year.

The thing is goin’ to the whatever available driver is deemed to have the greatest potential to bring in sponsors, or cash.

That’s the way Earnhardt got it when there ‘wasn’t room at the inn’ ‘n why Keselowski ain’t drivin’ for Hendrick now.

Anyone but Bowman, sorry, I just dont feel like he deserves to be in HMS car right now

Bowman is like a Matt Cassel or Jimmy Garoppolo in the NFL. Good for a backup QB/Driver, but without that long-term upside as a starter. Still relatively young, but not a rookie, with a good number of starts under his belt. Filled in nicely when Brady went down but didn't light the word on fire and take the starting job.

Could have gone elsewhere and maybe started but stayed loyal to the team and bided his time on the bench. Now the QB1 is retiring and he feels he's entitled to that seat. Well, what if he doesn't get it? I bet Bowman walks if HMS doesn't put him in the 88, and I don't think they will. Don't worry, somebody should offer him a full-time ride, but it will be on a worse team and he knows that. Such is life.

The fact is that Byron is better in almost every measurable way; younger, more wins, big sponsor, bigger upside. He's just not ready for cup yet, but he will be soon. I bet they get a veteran free agent driver for 2 years until Byron is ready to take over, and when he does look out NASCAR. This strategy works in NASCAR just like it does in the NFL.

Now that #5 car though, that's another matter.

The issue is Mr. H has basically already promised Bowman that he'd take care of him. Does that mean strictly as a test driver? Surely not.

The one thing we all know for sure is that none of us know for sure who will get the seat in the 88 car...but who ever does get it has some pretty big shoes to fill as far as the racing and the popularity. For a young and upcoming driver that seat could make or break your driving career.

Would like to see the 25 car return, as for who's in it im not sure. Dont really think Bowman is all that talented and I dont see it being him. If Larson is a free agent he makes the most sense. Will Byron wouldn't be a bad choice either.

Really think Jr Motorsports will have cup entries next year with maybe Elliott Sadler and Bowman being aligned with Hendrick. Kind of like the Furniture Row/Joe Gibbs partnership.

Ok people this is not about Kasey Kahne keep focused

It’d be great to see a young, up ‘n comin’ developmental driver like Sadler get a cup break.

I think he's earned a return to Cup and could easily see him being in a Jr. Motorsports Cup ride next year as an experienced driver for a new team.

Earned and deserving.

Two words seldom used by the powers-that-be in this game.
