NASCAR stages road course test at Charlotte Motor Speedway

I could swear while watching some of the IMSA Weathertech races this year, that some of the tracks had open walkways. I thought Sebring had one
Not sure about Sebring. I've only crossed a couple of the pedestrian bridges over Cup events..... Dover, turn #2 and The Glen front straight. Dover has/had wire mesh on the one side and plexiglass on the other. The Glen was fully enclosed with no view at all.

That’s cool I know of the Dover one didn’t know about the Glen

Sebring has both open and enclosed. Two are covered in Mobil 1/Fresh from Florida advertising and the other is an open-air driveover bridge into Green Park. St. Pete has some that are all in Firestone ads. I'm pretty sure the tops are fenced off as well.

Dude then just take the week off. You have no idea how this will play out, none, nada zip!
I don't know why you guys are giving him such a hard time.

"There are a lot of slow sections in turn 5, turn 6 and turn 7, which those are good rhythmic corners, but they make turn 8 really awkward and that leads you into a tight turn 9, which then leads you into oval turn 1.

"So maybe there's a chance we can talk them into reconfiguring to go straight from turn 7, skip 8 and go to turn 9. That way, we could have one less slow section that would help the flow of the track and help the exit of infield section onto the oval section. That would create more speed feel and eliminate the slow feeling.

"Frankly, a 3,500-pound car going 35 mph that many times isn't that exciting."

My God, was that Kurt Busch speaking or me? Now that a Cup champion driver has echoed some of the same points I have been making, can some of you concede that I might actually know a thing or two about the subject?

Nah, it's too much fun watching you get your dander up over silly web posts.

I haven't reviewed all 12 pages, but I don't recall anyone saying the racing itself will be great. Many have said we welcome a change, applauded NASCAR and SMI for trying something new, and we're looking forward to seeing how it turns out. That's not the same as saying it will be good; it could be a complete disaster.

I personally didn't see any point in making positive or negative predictions until some laps had been run. Fine, laps have been run. Extrapolate from the drivers' comments, now that we have some actual experience to work with.

For me, this roval course will be interesting to watch. I think it's going to demand precision in the turns and great handling.
I'm not going to judge until I see the race to decide whether or not I like it.
I don't care if the cars are slowed below what we come to expect as "racing speed" --- I really can't tell the difference
between 180 and a 160 when they are on the track.

I enjoy racing -- whenever and wherever.

Because he is shooting down something that hasnt even happened yet, I dont care if its jackman or Truex Jr. The reason they did the test was for tires and to make changes if needed. Its different and will be a challenge, this is a big boy sport so you gotta go to work.
If people are going to whinge every time an oval is repaved, reconfigured, rebanked, whatever, I don't see why it can't be done here.

It should not be hard to distinguish appreciation for the concept and initiative from commentary on the track design.

It can and will be done to death here, and I'll respond accordingly.

You are 100% correct but unfortunately there are those that don't see it that way.

glad your here man.
Hey man me too. I took a long time off from these kind of boards but its time that we start protecting our sport. It is bashed everyday on social media and on satellite radio and people wonder why its popularity is waning? People worry about stuff that they shouldnt even know about and its all due to this social network. Hell I listen to those morons Pete, Mike and Moody everyday and want to throw my radio out the window, I dont know why I do it. Call it morbid curiosity but they are cutting their own throats.

I have heard 2 other people blaming social media for Nascar's woes and it makes me wonder what Nascar did to receive such stinging rebukes and what kind of people allow other people to makes decisions for them about what they should and shouldn't like. IDK what people are worrying about or what they are worrying about that they shouldn't even know about but based on the TV ratings and track attendance it doesn't seem like a whole lot of worrying is done by anyone.

Do you think Nascar bears any responsibility for the thrashing it is apparently receiving and what can people do to "protect" Nascar?

NASCARs biggest problem is its trying to grow and stay current in the age of the me first generation. Of course NASCAR has some of the blame but when you really get down to it you have millions of people on any given sunday who after the race the majority of them will be unhappy because their driver lost and will look for any and every excuse as to why and 99% of the time they blame NASCAR. They will immediately take to radio and social media and trash everything about the sport to anyone who will listen. You dont think that has a negative effect ?

I can't say that I ever thought about bashing a league or sanctioning body if my favorite team or driver lost that day as it must be a relatively recent thing. In don't tweet, listen to the radio or follow Nascar other than from here and the cup race itself. I can see bashing Nascar for any stupid things it does and I can see complaining about rule changes and procedures but it really speaks poorly to the majority of Nascar fans intelligence if they have a tantrum and go on social media when their guy doesn't win. IMO it speaks really poorly to the people that listen to the ones that are mad because their guy didn't win and are bashing Nascar for it.

Maybe Nascar could hook up with a pro stick and ball league in order to find out what they are doing to combat this problem. I know I don't have any ideas.

NASCAR abandoned their core market (baby boomers) to chase after a generation that at best is ambivalent about cars and at worst hostile to them.

The youngest boomers are now in their mid 50's and there is nothing wrong with having them as fans but you also want to have enough younger fans in the pipeline so as the baby boomers continue to die off there are new fans on deck.

Yea I agree I’m a “millennial” 32 year’s old and out of all my friends I’m the only one that watches any Motorsports. I even took my core 3 best friends to Chicagoland in 2007-8ish and hooked them up with scanners. Out of 4 of us, only one of us didn’t fall asleep. I’ll let you take a guess as to who it was.. the problem is that yes NASCAR has probably shot themselves in the foot in someways, but... the love of cars and speed isn’t being passed down from people my age to their kids as it was passed to me from my dad.

The passion for mototsports comes in mass when the on-track product is superb.

For decades the best conversion rate comes from people attending the live race.

When the live race is as lackluster as its been and doesnt attract a new core audience, something is quite broken.

Here is what is drawing a new audience faster than NASCAR could possibly imagine:
