BREAKING NEWS: Racing-Forums Faces Potential Post Shortage in 2018

Any other time people would hardly give a shiet when a 25th place career driver in great equipment steps aside.

That is true, but this is Danica and a female. I have been attending all kinds of races all my life and for some reason every time I hear there is a female in a race I sit up and take notice. Normally I will mention it to whomever I am attending with be it my wife, grandkids, brother whomever. Normally I will keep track of how she is racing. Why? I guess because of the novelty. Unfortunately with Danica, the novelty did wear off and rarely did I find myself seeking out her position during a race. But there were times I definitely was entertained by her. One comes to mind was last year at Atlanta (I think) she was running mid pack but was racing like a badger that day. She gained more respect from me that day than any of her plate racing accomplishments.

Wished it would have turned out better for her. I will miss what she brought to NASCAR.

Don't understand the crying thing, and I argue gender as the sole reason for being a role model for anybody.

I will probably get blasted for this, but, if Danica gets into the Nascar Hall of Fame, then, the whole reason for a Nascar HOF is a joke. JMHO.
Her stats certainly wouldn't bear it out, but she has been by far the most successful female to compete in the sport. I don't think she's a first-ballot HOF'er, but that might be enough to get her in at some point.

Sounds like the people who actually vote for HoF inductees will have to redefine "successful". Brett Bodine, Bobby Hillin Jr. and Phil Parsons all WON a race. Would they be considered "successful"? If not, why not? Is Danica considered successful because she is a she? Does that alone merit HoF credentials? I think not. Is she in the same league as Petty, Earnhardt, Allison, Yarbrough, Labonte, Elliot, Jarrett and Wallace and so on? If she's in, then Janet Guthrie has to be in. She was actually far more competitive. Danica is the beneficiary of a cultural shift where showing up at the park guarantees you a trophy. It's a silly notion that she should be in the HoF. If she's in, everybody should be in. Jimmy Means parlayed a journeyman career as an independent into e few different business interest. He has done fairly well for himself, after starting with very little. Should he in the HoF? HoF credentials should only be based on on track success, not on gender. Is that not equality?

Standonit posted a neat stat about Janet Guthrie about her having as many top 10s in far less starts or equipment than Danica.

Danica doesn't belong anywhere near the Hall of Fame. And that's not even a hater comment.

Roger Penske said he isn't fielding a car for Danica Patrick in the Indianapolis 500 and already has congratulated Chip Ganassi on having a car for her. Ganassi said Friday he has not committed to it but has had talks with Patrick, who will close her racing career driving in the 2018 Daytona 500 and the 2018 Indy 500. Penske: "That's a great seat for her. If she is going to drive, that's a great team. They're the ones that have always been competitive there. I take my hat off that she wants to continue to go back to open wheel. It's going to be terrific for the sport. … I think she is going to come back to IndyCar a lot tougher having run in NASCAR."

LOL......... The way I am reading Roger....... he's saying......... ''Good friggin' luck there Chip........''

I think Rog has a point. Wait until Danica tries the 8 wheel slide with no fenders. LOL

I'm thinking the posts about the fall in ratings, lack of people in the seats, and the fall off in sponsorship dollars will more than make up for the post shortage of no Danica.
Yeah, the constant NASCAR is dead threads will more than make up for the loss of Danica threads, we will be ok here and wont be at a loss of things to whine about.

Is Kurt gonna sign his contract?

If she does run Indy I hope she has a pretty good finish and maybe Penske, Ganassi, or even Andretti might land a sponsor that wants her to run a full schedule...or at least run the Indy 500 for the next few years.

Danica said she wants to be remembered as a “great driver”.

Not a “great female driver”.

As far as Im concerned, they are all equal under the helmet.

To give her HOF status would be a disservice to upcoming and current drivers everywhere. If her racing stats are all that it takes to get into the HOF, theres no incentives.

I think she needs to quit (surrender) while she is behind. I don't know how many times she has been able to survive some of the hits she has taken and be able to walk away. Nascar's are much safer and so are their tracks overall. But it is what it is. I don't think every driver in the Indy Cars will be jumping for joy if she runs the 500. I'm thinking female Takuma Sato

My take on Danica this year is this.

She didnt want to be an also ran, so this upsets me, but I understand it

I am UBER stoked to see her in a car in the indy500 and daytona500
Personally, IMO, I feel it will be with CGR who has both an indycar presence and NASCAR. Do they have an open charter or do u need one for one race?

I have been distracted with other things of late but just wanted to put in my take.

IDK how things would work at IMS but as far as I know there are only 36 guaranteed spots for the 40 entries so at Daytona if she was not racing a car with a charter she would need to be one of the 4 fastest cars. I think that is totally doable as long as she didn't have trouble in one of the twins and it isn't like the old days when it seemed like 15 cars went home.

Good to see you as it seemed like it had been awhile.

It does sound more likely than not she'll run with CGR. She'd need to be the top Open driver in her Duel, or one of the top two Open drivers in qualifying, if I'm remembering the rules correctly. I don't think she'll have trouble making the field.

It's quite possible the Daytona 500 doesn't have a full field

post shortage?.....around here??????.......nah, there are way, way to many varying personalities on this forum to ever have a shortage. Heck, I've been here about a month, this place is a breath of fresh air. State your thoughts and opinions, and enjoy the back and forth. America is indeed great.

Not to get anyone's hopes up, and I'm certainly NOT predicting it, but she has sat on the pole there before. A Ganassi car would certainly be capable of it. I mention this only to acknowledge the possibility.
