Just curious. When I was growing up always real. Even married up until the last 15 years, real. Then we went with a artificial. But they don't 'smell' good yada, yada so the past 5 years we've gone back to real.
Son's out getting two from a local farm.
Boys will get a kick out of it

Love a real tree.

Cat owner equals no tree.

In years past, we've always went with fake trees just because they are safer for pets. However, at least once..I'd like to go up to a tree farm in the mountains and cut one down.

Real trees only allowed in this house, for the time being, but I am starting to like the idea of a fake one more and more each year.

Thread premise works on dog forums too. They be posting : Real tree or Artificial?

I'd love a real tree but I bought a 7 ft artificial from a friend for $7. I went today and got some decorations. I have NO idea how the hell I am going to reach the top of a 7 ft tree.

I have no stool and even if I did, I have a habit of falling and my daughter made me promise not to climb. Last thing I need to do is break my neck.

I've got 4 and 2 of them have never seen a christmas tree. They are young. I've got to come up with a plan.

Last year we had one cat and had no problem with the cat vs tree. This year we got a second cat because the first was lonely. wtf ???
I have renamed them Clouseau and Kato. They chase each other through the house bouncing off walls, jumping on and off furniture. I figure the tree will be a target so I have a couple of small screw eyes that I'll put about 6 feet up into studs to the left and right sides of the tree then tie off with some 40 lb test mono.
We will have a neutered tree, no balls, or any other decorations except for lights to lower temptation until Christmas morning. A quick decorating session before the boys get here and we'll be good, I hope.
De-decorate later in the day..

I've never understood the fascination of killing a tree to celebrate creation of life.

It's tradition. There's a movie in which in order to maintain a certain towns population, they hold a festival and kill someone when someone is born or moves to town. The "victim" is honored to be the one to go. Same concept really. Maybe if trees had feelings, they'd feel honored too.

I purchased a real tree from a buddy of mine each year but unfortunately he passed away so I just got away from getting one at all. It has been the same with decorations as I have some nice old ones I like but they are downstairs in a box. What had happened was I was on my way to the basement to get the decorations and then............I didn't............:D

Oh how I wish my wife would finally make the move to an artificial tree. We get a real tree each year and I hate it. Bah Humbug!

We've been married for 25 years now. In the years before and since we got married, she's always been in search of the mythical, perfect Christmas tree. I'm guessing our search is around 30 years and counting now. If you count the time spent individually as a family of four, taking into account that both children have grown and don't partake in our quest any longer..... We are still pushing well over 100 years in our search. I think we are no closer to finding the perfect tree today than we were in the late 80's. It simply doesn't exist outside of the one that comes in a cardboard box.

We live about 10 minutes away from a several hundred acre Tree Farm that encompasses several tall hills and low valleys. We visit the entire property north to south, east to west in search of that tree. We find trees that are close to being perfect, but there is always one flaw or another that my wife points out preventing us from making our tree hunt a desirable length affair. We are both getting older and repeatably climbing those hills will hopefully be a thing of the past in the near future although my wife still shows no signs of wanting to go that direction. :(

My perfect tree!

When we had a real tree, we always went to a tree farm and cut our own. Of course, it was not the traditional fir because those won't grow in Texas. But at least getting it from a farm was a little more responsible.

And even those aren't perfect. LOL

I don't share any kind of fascination of the killing of a tree to celebrate creation of life..... but I gotta tell you..... after the holiday season..... when I finally get to drag the needle shedding sapling from the warm comforts of my home & throw it into the fire pit out back, striking a match..... I've got a smile on my face. :D

I refuse to pay for a real tree. If I was closer to home (71/2 hour drive) I'd take a real tree off my property. We just bought a new fake tree yesterday, The little Frenchy chewed the lights off the other one.

Artificial for me.
For you real tree people, remember to be sure to keep them well watered!

well water and always attended when the lights are on. Yes they go up fast. One reason why we buy a tree and cut, or have it cut, the same day. Not a tree cut in Sept and trucked in from East Gapeepee

I recommend keeping an extinguisher in the room with them too.
I feel the stats in the vid are wrong; 200 tree fires from 2010 to 2012 seems awfully low. We would get at least 2 or 3 a year in our coverage area alone when I ran FD.

I've never had an artificial tree, never had a problem with a fire either. New lights these days don't emit enough heat to be a fire hazard .

We have both - one big real tree and four smaller artificial ones... my wife is a Christmas decorations maniac.

But you need a Realtree if you're a Dave Marcis fan...

Because of Clouso(sp?) and Kato, wife's two whacked out cats, our tree will go up tomorrow afternoon.
A wrapping marathon is going on now

Nice looking tree

You're really Charlie Brown? Who'da thunk!

We have a small artificial tree, so small no assembly is required, just pick a spot and set it there. The wife asked me to put it in the shop, in a safe spot to keep it from getting flattened, mashed etc. Laying it on shelf will not do, she essentially wants a reserved spot of prime real estate for the thing.

Last night she asked me about the tree were it was in the shop and it's welfare. I got an idea during the conversation, I can mount it outside Jan - Nov like a real tree growing, and get my valuable floor place back.

The annual 'Burning of the Christmas Tree' took place today. Been waiting for a good day to take it down to the big fire ring.....

This is great! I have a buddy who gets a real tree every year, and it has become tradition for us to burn it during Superbowl half time show. It is great entertainment, if only for a few minutes...

Never thought about saving it for that. We hit an unusual warm day after a long cold spell. Decided it was a good day to burn a lot of boxes and incinerate the remnants of the holiday season. The tree was basically gone in 60 seconds. Scary.

If it's a small tree, just turn it upside down and hang it from the ceiling.

Wow.. end of January and we are talking Christmas trees. Christmas left my house and my mind before New Year's. Anyways, I took my 7' artificial tree to Goodwill. It's just been taking up room for the past couple of years as I've been putting up live trees. I love the live trees. It is a bit of trouble to get out to the road but once it is there, it is gone and forgotten. The city chips the trees and uses it for mulch. Except this year I saw some guys in a pickup truck load it. I think they were probably going to use it for a New Year's bonfire. Neither way it is out of my hair.

My complaint with artificial trees is they are a lot more trouble to set up and pack away. All the limbs have to be folded and squished back to fit in the box. Then, all the limbs have to be pulled out and fluffed up for display. Work gloves are recommended. The only good part about artificial trees are all the perfect spots to hang the ornaments. Needs to go over a bit to the left of right? just bend it that way.

Cats.. I have two indoor cats who have not tried to climb the tree yet. They seem to only be interested in sleeping under it. From all I've heard, I am very lucky in that regard.
