2017-18 Fall/Winter Weather Thread

Bluebonnets depend on Dec./Jan. rains --- we didn't have any. I've checked my yard and find very few plants compared to last year. Afraid this season
is pretty much lost.
Now that's a damn shame.

Really too bad if the bluebonnets do not appear. Back in the early '90's when my Bride and I spent winters in Mesa, AZ, I always wanted to see the cactus in bloom and one year we stay longer than usual hoping to do so. Problem was, for some reason which is forgotten, the cactus did not bloom on schedule and we had to return to our home in NJ without ever seeing them. Still have hope it might happen. I have several potted cactus plants on the sun porch, one a Christmas Cactus, and it was spectacular this year with the most vibrant colors one could imagine. First time ever as the others I've had over time never bloomed.
Maybe it is because as we age we take more time to appreciate and take care of things we had a tendency to hurry past in our allurer life.

On a more appropriate note and adhering to the title of this thread, the temperature is currently 71 degrees, clear, sunny skies and a high of 81 predicted.

Under a Winter Weather Advisory here -- chance of freezing drizzle.
32* right now and probably not much higher for the rest of the day. A fairly stiff breeze out of the North doesn't help.

Dreary is a good word for our weather. Rain rain rain. Supposed to end tomorrow morning. 68 degrees now with a high of 76 today.

Rain here yesterday, last night, and today...yard is a giant puddle. 39 degrees and pouring, would much rather snow....yuck to this cold rain.

Recall in, about 1989, we were headed to Mesa for the winter and got caught in an ice storm as we were leaving the Houston area. I crawled at low speed on I-10 as far as Columbus, Texas, by now a nervous wreck, where we waited three days before the roads were declared clear and the rain and freeze to end. At least we had hookups for the motorhome. We needed hookups and there was no place between where we were and Columbus or I would have stopped earlier. Still get chills thinking about it!! (Pun intended) And that was the second time we had been caught in an ice storm while driving the motorhome but that tale is for another time. ;)

A high of 69 is expected for Wednesday. That's going to be our warmers day since at least November. As for today, we've got a high of 38. Could be worse, so I'm not complaining.

It has been crap weather here the last 10 days and it's summer! Been muggy tho. But a lot of rain.

My Mom is here from Vancouver wanting to see her new great grandchild in Perth , Western Australia.
After looking at commercial fares to get her there as I don't have any leave sorted as this was spur of the moment...they are way to expensive so I booked us tickets through work....I only have my 3 day weekend but I'm gonna go with my mom and leave her there for a week or ten days.

The temp is supposed to be 97 tomoro.

97? I'd settle for 37.

Well, all of the snow is finally melting and I can see the top of our pool for the first time in about 6 weeks. It's a slab of ice from end to end clear to the top. It's supposed to rain. The water will just run off. The pool can hold no more.

Highs in the low 70s lows in the low 60s for the past few days and the foreseeable future. Some rain and storms on and off. It's that time of year. The camellias have bloomed.

I think the ground hog was wrong!

Highs in the mid to high 70s lows in the mid 60s for the foreseeable future.

Got up this morning to cloudy, warm, and humid. Dragged myself to the gym.
One hour later, walk out to bright sunshine, stiff North breeze, and much lower humidity.
Came home and opened all the windows to let the wind blow thru. :)

Been mid 50s for 30 days, tomorrow night winter storm watch, 8 inches of snow they are saying, then 60 by Wednesday. ..wtf

DAMMIT!!! DAMMIT!!! DAMMIT!!! Another day with temperatures in the low eighties, sunny, beautiful blue skies with large white puffy, cotton like clouds making shapes to test the imagination. Just another day in paradise. :)

Same here but in the high 70s.

I would love to see some sunshine, but even better --- send RAIN! The weather guessers keep promising, but they keep moving
the day. It was supposed to rain today, but now, MAYBE Tuesday. Right now, I'd even take thunderstorms if it meant I got an inch
of rain. I'll even put my rain gauge back up --- right now it's laying on the porch. Why have it out, when there's nothing to measure. LOL
No measurable rain since mid-December.

Power’s out at the ranch and she’s gonna get below freezing tonight... Shoulda bought a generator.

What a beautiful child. Congrats to all!!

Had our worst Winter storm of the season last night and early this morning. That's not saying much since we haven't had much precipitation this season, but it was enough to cover the roads with a sheet of ice and close most schools in the area. Kinda crazy to hear thunder and see lightning during freezing rain. Most of my drive to work is on the highway and I didn't get above 40 mph. Worst part of the morning was scraping my car windows. Another Winter Weather advisory has been issued for tomorrow afternoon through Thursday morning. This Winter has been cold, but the path of the storms haven't been in our favor for moisture. That seems to be changing.

Froze my stones off this morning. First time in a year that it’s been in the mid 30s in the morning. Currently 58, nice if you’re in the sun.
No clouds anywhere, just crisp, cool air coming down out of Canada.

Highs in the high 70s lows in the low 60s. This time of the year it should be highs in the high 50s lows in the low 40s.

I was hearing on the radio this morning that the fruit and produce folks in CA. were concerned about frost and freezing temps......

I've been begging Mother Nature for rain --- well, this morning at 1 AM, she delivered. There was lightning right over my house,
the thunder was shaking the whole house and the rain came down like Niagara Falls. I don't mind admitting I was hiding under the
covers -- it was frightening. Just checked the rain gauge --- just a bit over 2.24 inches -- in about 30 minutes.
Had one casualty in the house --- my TV. I heard a "pop" during the storm, apparently it was a surge that killed the TV. Nothing else,
thank goodness. I unplugged the computer when the first bolt of lightning lit up the place. *whew*
Temps were in the low 70s when I went to bed -- low 40s this morning.

Sometimes if you beg long and hard enough they'll grant your wish and give you a months worth in 30 minutes. :D

Glad you got rain TRL and hope some of it soaked in the ground rather than run off.
Temps here close to ninety today. Sarasota was over ninety yesterday and set a record of never being that warm this time of year.
Clouds keep getting dark but no threat of rain. Just another day in paradise.

The cold front is either close or here. Wind has turned out of the North. Temp has dropped 6 degrees since this morning.
Went into Wally World, bought new TV --- almost $200 LESS than what I paid for the same one 5 years ago.
Up and running. :)

Ice on the trees here, not enough so far to knock out any power. 24 and it isn't going to hit the high of 33 the weather guesser predicted. Hope they miss the 80% chance of rain, freezing rain part
