Rate The All Star Races: Charlotte

Open - 8

ASR - 6. Maybe it was the longer runs, but this race wasn't as interesting as the preliminary. The leader couldn't pull away, although he may have been able to at least separate himself from the pack. There was more variance in performance between cars than is usual at a plate race; the cars weren't trapped in a pack, but getting out of line resulted in going backwards as often as going forward. There was passing, but it seemed to me like it was often the same four or five cars just swapping positions between themselves, as if none of them could establish dominance. It seemed like a driver still required another's assistance to make a definitive move and change positions long-term.

The 'overtime' rules definitely put me off. If they restart with two to go, there's going to be a wreck every time, regardless of track or plate presence.

It was like an exotic meal with unusual flavors and ingredients, some pleasing, some off-putting, but definitely nothing I'd want to learn to prepare at home for regular consumption.

Still the leader has got such an aero advantage,but this package does bunch up the field leading to big wrecks.It is like driving I-26 towards Columbia,SC at I-20 interchange and watching cars fight for position at the last minute.

Loved the whole thing. Great racing, competing at every level. Drafting mattered. Hard to pull away, but plenty of hard racing allowed the drivers to compete while the best cars still rose to the top. A rare 9 from me!

Open - 9.5 ASR - 9.0. Much as I profess to dislike restrictor plates the Charlotte package produced some exciting racing. I mean, three and four wide at Charlotte? WOW!!
As someone already said, the last ten laps, while intended to be a shootout offsets, lacked the excitement previous portions of the event delivered.

I doubt Id ever give a race a perfect 10 but this was about as close to it as Ive seen. I enjoyed everything about the race and the package other than maybe the winner lol

Not sure if I'd like to see it used all the time or not.. but if it did happen I don't think I'd complain. I wouldn't advocate for or against the idea.. but if I had to I'd be for it.

The Open alone makes this a 10, always one of my favorite events of the year and a chance to see some new faces in victory lane. The All Star race was fun as well and would have been a much better final segment if not for the stupid GWC at the end of stage 3 that took out Harvick's chief competition

Always move to the far left before the Broad River Road exit, or Bush River Road if coming from the west. You can be over there even if you run the speed limit like I do, since you'll likely be the only one in the lane. Everyone else is making last-minute moves to the off ramps, or failing to yield to those getting on from I-26, in the heart of what Columbians refer to as 'Malfunction Junction'.

Open = 9.5
ASR = 9.5

If you did not like these, well, there is no hope.
Suarez gettin on the wheel!!!!:punkrocke, the boy was best I have ever seen him run.
Nobody had anything for Harvick at the end, it ain't all car folks, I think Harvick has hit his prime. JMHO.:booya:

10. This is where many who have muted me miss out. Kevin Harvick is epic right now, and I love it. His cars are great, and he is driving brilliantly. He is the target. The intrigue of this sport for me is not some freakin' artificially induced parity. It is in the challenge of lesser teams/cars (everybody that isn't the 4 or in a SHR car) to make gains, and catch up. For me, I feel like my driver takes one necessary variable out of the equation. It is now up to TRD working with JGR to find a way to give Kyle Busch the car he needs to stop the 4. I will watch all season to see if they are successful. I won't bitch about wind tunnels, cheating, or all of the other horse**** I hear around here. Read this people. My guy, team, and manufacturer aren't winning, and I still have reason to be engaged in the sport. Once again, maybe the sport doesn't have a problem. Maybe the fans do.

Did you catch when the announcers said the race has no gimmicks this year, no inverting the field or what not. Totally blowing over the fact that the aero package is the gimmick this year.

2 - just a mini plate event. People who enjoy this kind of event aren't looking for a real race to watch but rather sports entertainment. Might was well be WWE with people yelling 'it's real racing to me!' :)'

Kinda looked like they were racing to me? o_O :lol2:

Entertainment value: 8.5
Racing value: 2
I think I understand where ChexOrWrex is coming from, and sorta agree with him. To me, good hard racing is *always* entertaining. Also, something that is not good racing but is presented as "for entertainment purposes" generally leaves me cold. I can make an exception to that for an event that is not to be taken seriously, something just for fun where the outcome is not meaningful in a sporting way. If I regard the All Star Race that way, analogous to a county fair Pig 'N Ford Race, then I could rate it 6.5. (But if you talk about using this rules package for real races, my opinion would be a lot lower. Real races at the Nascar Cup level need to emphasize driver skill, and the higher the degree of difficulty, the better I like it.)

9 its still hard to pass the leader, they need to make the splitter way smaller

8.5; good racing back in the pack, but not so much for the lead.
