Texas Motor Speedway borrowing from dirt tracks with kids-only "Dash for Cash'
Texas Motor Speedway will introduce "Dash for Cash,'' a dirt-track staple, before the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup AAA Texas 500 on Nov. 4.

Children in three age groups - 3-4, 5-7 and 8-12 - will scramble in search of $10,000 in coins spread about a specific area. They can thank the persuasive Janet Larson, her son and Cup racer Kyle and fellow driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr. for the lucrative experience.
For Larson and Stenhouse, this is about more than money. They understand their sport will suffer if it does not cultivate the next generation of fans.

"That's the goal for every racing series and racetrack,'' Larson said. "Kids and millennials are the future of our sport. Anything that we can do as a whole to attract a younger audience to our races ... in all forms of racing is important.''

I think if Kyle would calm down a little instead of driving like his hair is on fire, he would have better finishing positions.
 
Maybe next year Larson. got one chance left win Kansas.

Kyle Larson already faced a likely must-win situation Sunday at Kansas, and it now becomes more likely as NASCAR penalized him 10 points for his team using unapproved metal tabs to make repairs during the race at Talladega that violated the damaged vehicle policy, dropping him from 26 points behind the current playoff cutoff to 36 points out. NASCAR fined crew chief Chad Johnston $25,000 and issued a one-race suspension to car chief David Bryant. Larson would have been parked during the race and finished 40th instead of 11th if NASCAR had noticed the violation prior to postrace inspection.

The appeals process should happen pretty quick it sounds like. Figuring the playoff points nightmare will probably take longer then the appeal to get it straight.

Chip Ganassi Racing will appeal the penalty to Kyle Larson issued yesterday. NASCAR has an expedited appeals process for this because of playoff implications. CGR: "After reviewing the penalty, the rule and the procedure that we used during the race in Talladega, we feel strongly that we did nothing wrong. Subsequently, we have decided to appeal the penalty."
 
They were denied their appeal, but going all the way with it. I don't get it, the rules state you have to use original panels, unless another team used patch panels and they weren't penalized.

 
Looks like Ganassi is trying to say that metal tabs are fasteners.

The rules require teams use only fasteners or tape to repair the car.

"After reviewing the penalty, the rule and the procedure that we used during the race in Talladega, we feel strongly that we did nothing wrong," the team said in a statement.

The definition of a fastener is not in the NASCAR rulebook, but the NASCAR rules put the onus on the teams to be sure they use approved parts and pieces, requiring the teams to ask whether a part or piece is legal before its use.

I figured Larson would say something like this, he will try to drive the fenders off of it.

"I don't know much about the appeals stuff," Larson said Friday afternoon prior to practice at Kansas. "I kind of just drive the race car. Obviously a 10-point penalty doesn't help, but I felt like with even being 26 points back, we were going to probably have to go into this week and get a win to make it into the next round.

"It doesn't really mean much to me, the other 10 points. I viewed it before as we had to come in here and win."
"Where in our position, we know what we have to do. We can be aggressive. I can run hard all race long. I can just race with little care, I guess, and our team can make aggressive pit calls."
