SILLY SEASON 2019

Oh sh!t man, it looks like Lilly's is leaving Roush and Reed looks like he's done with Roush at least. Man, this is not good for Roush in terms of sponsorship. I hope the Xfinity program is not scrappes, but Lilly's will still be involved with NASCAR. They are the offical "diabetes" partner in NASCAR. I wonder what will happen with Reed?

Could that mean Roush will shut down his Xfinity team?
I can't think of any other owner that would like to see Reed in his car.

Would be nice if Chase Briscoe ended up in the 16 full time.

Great Value Ricky Stenhouse. A couple of plate miracles, generally underperforming and often erratic.

Bye.

Ricky is underperforming? I can see why he drives erractic considering how crappy the cars are. Just look at what Kenseth is doing compared to Stenhouse, and it's not anything better than Ricky.

Don't think so. Someone mentioned it here before, Briscoe is a Ford/SHR driver. Majeski could go full-time if Roush doesn't shut down the Xfinity team.
Briscoe however could go full-time with the #00 or the #98 since Harvick won't race in xfinity anymore.

That would be me LOL...

How do I put this nicely?....... Ryan Reed sucks at least now I don't have to worry about wanting him to do good because it's a waste of energy.

Kenseth is on the tail end of his career, 46 years old, driving a third of a schedule. Hamlin and KyBu ate his lunch last year. I'm not sure that's a great benchmark. He beat Biffle in the last year of his career too, does that mean a whole lot? He's proven himself to be better than Bayne, that's about it.

Unfortunately I think Majeski just runs Ford schemes most of the time...either Ford is going to have to step up big-time or RFR have to pull some magic out of their ass and find a lot of funding for him to keep running.

RFR have decent stuff for Xfinity so it would suck if they folded that operation entirely.

I think Briscoe in the SHR/Biagi-DenBeste car would be a great entry.

Usually a good benchmark of performing well is beating your teammates... unless you're trying to compare him to Kyle Busch. Kenseth was 8th-11th points (on average) for most of the year last year, so I wouldnt't call that Denny eating his lunch, marginally better, sure.

Denny beat him in everything except poles. Resets aside, he had almost two races worth of points on him at the end of the year.

So I take it 1 win, 10 top 5's, 18 top 10's and 400+ laps led is a bad season? Dale Jr came back for his one race after being out of the car for almost a year and performed very well.

Sure, those 2 plate wins of Stenhouse might have been "miracle, luck" wins, but as far as I'm concerned, Ricky is performing up to average. Ricky's results at some of the short tracks in recent years tells me the equipment needs some help.

Guess we agree to disagree.

Stenhouse finished 3rd at Dega quiet as it has been kept, and that is saying something right behind the two SHR Fords, almost had second. Qualified 3MPH slower than pole. He redeemed himself as far as I am concerned. Good run in a Roush car.

Dale raced an Xfinity race...Kenseth managed to beat a Cup rookie, but he wasn't particularly close to the other two veterans on his team.

Stenhouse has gotten better, and RFR aren't good, but in a full-time field of maybe 30 drivers I'd struggle to put him in the top half. For any driver above him in the standings with better stuff he may be better than there's probably another (Chastain, Buescher) below that could say the same in relation to him. I think he is what he is at this point. Maybe I'm wrong and he could be another Truex but that's pretty unlikely.

I have a problem with this. Why is Nascar taking team sponsors away from them????

My point is that he's performing relative to expectations and I haven't seen anything that says he's underperforming unless the RFR fabrication budget is going under.

Looks pretty definite that Reed is out at Roush. It should be interesting to see who they get for that seat, or if they bury or burn the 60 car

Thank you to @FLRacingFan and @AuzGrams for the interesting discussion on Roush-Fenway drivers. Good stuff.

My take on the Roush's "2018 Kenseth Experiment" is that it has reflected favorably to some extent on Stenhouse as a driver, and also a little bit favorably on Trevor Bayne as a driver. And it has reflected poorly on Roush-Fenway for the lack of competitiveness of their cars. Finally, Matt Kenseth has seemed very ready for the couch. I suspect his "comeback" has been good for him mainly in that he now has a sense of closure that he is ready for retirement.

sadly he has said multiple times now, he cant post alot of what he hears cuz of the people that take the crap elsewhere...probably for karma, then it gets spread like wildfire through social media...
Exactly. I was just reading that FRR is done thread...so much I want to say, but probably shouldn't. NASCAR is a really crazy place. So many of the things that go on behind the scenes are crazy...literally unbelievable to normal, rational, non-gazillionaires like us...so even trying to explain them on a message board without getting into really intimate details is futile since so many actions or decisions wouldn't make sense without literally including the proof. And even then you'd just scratch your head and say "wtf." Just know that when it comes to NASCAR, if it looks like a duck, swims like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's most likely a hippopotamus.

Appreciate that. As for what's in my head right now, there's really not much tbh. I truly have no clue about the 41 or Suarez. Some swear he'll be in that car, others think he might be done. All good sources, too. It's wild. As for Kurt, I truly believe he'll be in the 1. The holdup is the specifics of the Monster contract (surprise, surprise. See also: last year.)

So what have you heard??? ;)

We have often heard about the team/driver/sponsor moves during the summer or "Silly Season". It seems that with the economic tightening, we are seeing things happen much later in the year (Like you said see last year and Monster). With less than a month to go there are still a bunch of questions about who what where in 2019. TBH I think this is going to be how things are going forward, making the time between Homestead and Daytona a real crazy time.

How about a little more speculation regarding SHR/RFR...

Briscoe and Majeski have both been almost exclusively sponsored by Ford in their Xfinity starts this year.
I doubt they would fund two full-time cars in 2019.
So, if Briscoe goes full-time in the #00/98, Majeski could end up without a ride.

It has been mentioned that Gene Haas decides who'll drive the #41 in Cup. Haas CNC has been sponsoring Custer since he first raced in the K&N Series.
Therefore I'd go with Custer driving the #41 next year, leaving Suarez without a ride.

gene haas has also said multiple times,it will not be custer, he needs to win alot more to have that chance

ive heard a xfinity series team has came into a big money sponsor, and will be starting a truck team, and 2019 might be pretty huge for them

If I knew something I would just say who gives a hoot where it goes or who says what....we are all here for the same reason....everyone's identities are hidden on here anyway. At the end of the day it's what we are here for....no point in "keeping secrets" lol....hate it on it if you want but that's how I feel about it.

Dude...this is the guy's livelihood...in an industry where many millions of $$$ are at stake, and personal reputation is EVERYTHING...what the hell gives you the audacity to say he's "keeping secrets"? None of us are entitled to know anything @Allenbaba knows...I can't believe you'd phrase it as "keeping secrets"...that's terrible...

Some of us have friends within the industry , so yes we "keep these secrets" to protect them . We only tell what we either are told we can say , or water it down until the announcments to protect these people...
Is this a existing team expanding? a cup team expanding? a new team formed? :D
Existing team that is expanding
