Wow! To see it on paper really makes it stand out.

Obviously, nothing can really be determined from a simple 'still pic' but the referee appears to be looking in the direction of the play as it was unfolding. Maybe he blinked at an inopportune moment? Maybe he was distracted in thought, contemplating which bar they were heading to after the game? Perhaps he forgot to pack his contacts before he flew into town for the game? Maybe, just maybe, a Saints Cheerleader caught his eye @ just the wrong moment? Who knows? The possibilities are endless.

Obviously he should be fired, lose all of his retirement benefits and be sighted flipping burgers and eggs on the night shift at a Waffle House. Bitter? You bet.

Patrick is one heckuva player but will never win anything with Andy Reid or that defense

Honestly, if both teams got the ball in OT, i think KC had a shot.

the rules for OT are insane, over the years the rules have been changed so much in the NFL to favor the offense, and then not to let both teams have a shot in OT. That's wrong.

Looked it up, it was 1987. But that’s only because it was a 15 game season due to the strike.
Ugh! The question needs to exclude that year. And the question could be re-phrased to include the 14 game schedule by asking about a 0.500 record.

I noticed the anomaly of 2018 by wondering how many wins a team would have if they beat every opponent who finished at 0.500 or worse, and lost to every team that had a winning record.

I believe 2018 was the first year of no 8-8 teams in the seasons in which 16 games were played. As for no 7-7’s prior to 1978 I’m not sure.

As they should. There were quite a few egregious penalties the Saints committed that weren't called.

Furthermore, people should also accept that the officiating in the AFC game was very biased towards Kansas City.

I'll give New England fans credit, they don't whine about refs, even when they lose. Two touchdowns in last year's Super Bowl should have been called back and Pats fans never whined about them.

The local news here in Wichita cant quit making excuses for Kansas City losing. Bad calls this, bad overtime rules that. Not mention of how the defense flat out failed on the Patriots overtime drive.

No, in the end it was fairly 'balanced' in the number of missed calls in both directions. You can't call out whining about officiating by simply whining about it from the other side.

The Chiefs were generally outplayed, especially given that they were at home. Outgained by 200 yards, zero offense in the first half. The Patriots almost gave the game away with some questionable decisions and bad bounces.

The better team won, and yet it still came down to a coin toss and a bounce here or there, as it so often does in today's NFL.

Patrick Mahomes was incredible in the second half. If that dude doesn't get hurt and keeps working to get even better, he may very well shatter every single passing record.

Every single player on Kansas City's offense is the best in their respective position right now. But the defense only played in the first half and the offense only played in the second half. If that offense had come to life in the first half, KC would've won in a blowout.

Absolutely. NE won because they won the coin toss. Crazy that that don't play the full 15 minutes or at least give each teams offense a chance to play.

I think the online petition is kind of ridiculous but as far as taking a step to right this ship by removing Al, I think it's a damn good start. Let's see if it actually happens.

NFL 'considering firing its head of officiating' over the missed call that helped the Rams reach the Super Bowl as half a MILLION Saints fans sign an online petition demanding a rematch

NFL senior vice president of officiating Alberto Riveron's job is reportedly in jeopardy after a blown call Sunday in the NFC Championship Game

I wonder if any fans will boycott tuning into the Super Bowl because of the blown calls.
This season has been the poorest officiating that I can recall.

I'd imagine you'll see a huge decline on the NO market. KC to a lesser extent. Overall though, I think the ratings will be much greater than last year. People have been tuning back into this sport.

I couldn't agree more on your last statement. I don't know if it's because I watched so many more games this year than I ever have or what but the officiating has been in a free-fall these past few years. It seems that each year now that there's a huge controversy over one call/non call that brings about big changes to the officiating the following year. Last season brought about a change in what is now determined to be a catch, protecting the quarterback, helmet hits. This season, it's going to be the non call in the Saints game this past weekend. Next season we are going to see the type of reviewable plays be increased. Some of the judgement call plays will be added to the reviewable list. Naysayers are going to tout how this is going to increase the game length. That's not going to happen because they're not going to increase the number of challenges allowed per team. What it will do though is correct some of the game changing major mistakes that are being made by today's officials. We've always had blown calls in the history of this sport but they are now becoming the norm. That's not good. These officials should not be the story after the final whistle. When they are, there's a problem. There IS a problem.

I wish the officials in NY could push a emergency button for worse case scenarios. Not a review of all calls pr se but one for calls like happened to my team...NO

I have to admit, this is the least psyched I’ve been for a Super Bowl in quite some time. I’m gonna watch it of course, but the excitement level isn’t quite what it is most years for me.

NO needs to move on, i get it they are upset, and i would be too. But man, if they were some how to push a replay, the precedence that would set would be crazy.

I have a few games i'd like to push the reset button on.

NO had a few shots to put that game away, it wasn't that one play that caused them the game. Not to mention to missed facemask call on Goff.

move on NO....

I have been a Rams fan all the way back to when Georgia owned the team, and even though I agree that the Saints had many other chances to win the game last Sun I still understand and feel bad for the Saints fans like Johali for being upset. I would have been just as upset if the role was reversed. I don't know what the best action should be taken but I hope the officials will let the players play and not go overboard officiating the Super Bowl.

Except that WAS the play that would’ve ended the game.

the non call of the face mask would have given the rams first and goal...could have scored the TD instead of kicking the field goal as well.

Lots of missed calls in the history of the NFL..

Id have no problem giving them another pick in the first round for it, but it would equate to the either the last pick or the second to last pick, where they would pick if they were in the super bowl.

When the Falcons blew a lead in the Super Bowl, I didn’t go blaming the refs. Hell when the Saints got away with a PI a few seasons ago on Julio Jones, I didn’t bitch and ask for a rematch or say we should be in the playoffs. I accepted it and moved on.

Rest assured changes are around the corner because of this past weekend. Helz, make the face mask a reviewable play as well if need be. Enforce the rules that are written. That's not that much to ask. These guys usually make the proper call. Sometimes they don't but the NFL could create the opportunity to at least try to make it right. Saints. Rams...... Rams. Saints..... Neither one of those teams means anything to me. Absolutely horrible, game changing calls/non calls were made in the games my team played in. Those ones matter to me. Get it right. That's not that much to ask.

I can 100% agree that the right calls need to be made, a lot of times they aren't.

Do I take a joy in it sometimes happening to teams I don't like? Sure, because I know they do the same to mine.(I had a lot of Saints fans doing it to me over bad calls before, so trust me on that.) Do I think the no call is why they lost? Nope, because as mentioned the no calls on them in the game could've also changed the outcome. It's football, and it never will be perfect.
