Kevin Harvick calls for eliminating Clash, combining with All-Star Race

I agree. He just wants to extend his vacay another 3 or 4 days prob.

Don’t know why any race fans want to get rid of races? Cars on the track, I’m watching...and the Whol Speedweek thing is a nice way to open the season.....for those who want to see nascar racing.
Because they had a rain screwed up single file race, so lets get rid of it ..and Harvick is getting old, they all seem to get a bit cranky at that age when they have to extend themselves a bit. Ask Byron, or Elliott or Jones about the speed weeks.

Kevin Harvick needs to shut his mouth, if he doesn’t want to race he doesn’t have to.

I agree wholeheartedly!!! I love The Clash! This year's event kinda sucked but not every race is going to have the BF Game 7 moment!
The same goes for the fans that are calling to eliminate The All Star race also.. What in the actual he!! are these people thinking???
IF YOU DON"T WANT TO WATCH A RACE THEN DON"T WATCH IT!!!! For heaven's sake though don't take away from the rest of us who actually enjoy racing!

I like both these races. So maybe I would just get rid of the fans who don't like them instead. :sarcasm:
Start 20 cars for a pre-season exhibition race at New Smyrna...there's already cameras and a NAASCAR officiating trailer/personnel there for the K&N race. Use the Daytona garage for car setup. Impound the cars and take them via trailer to New Smyrna. These haulers can haul 3 cars already...only need 7 trailers. Each team can bring a "war wagon" of basic tools you'd need for a pit stop and body damage repair. One thirty minute practice at 4pm, autograph session/pit party on the front stretch for the fans 5pm-6:30pm, "drivers start your engines" at 7pm. 60 lap race, green flag laps only, one new tire allowed and it's optional to put it on or not.

Call Moody up this afternoon and run that by him.

A shorter season makes more sense financially. logistically, and it makes every race that much more important and helps keep the excitement up. By the end of a 36 race season, I am READY for it over for awhile. The old show business adage was "Leave them wanting more". The longer the season goes on, the less interest there is among many fans, right at the time you want the MOST interest. It also gives the team employees more time to be home with their families. If you haven't lived the schedule many of these people live, you have no idea. The ARCA season is a cake walk compared to the NASCAR schedules, and that was hard enough on all of us. It's a standing joke among the rest of the sports world that the NASCAR season is 11 1/2 months long, and sadly that's not TOO far from the truth, when you realize that there are only TWO months that have no racing in them. Quite the contrast when you consider that the almighty NFL season is basically only four months long.

So, if we are going to dump the Clash and the All Star Race, why aren't we talking about the Duels? Locked in on a plate track does not produce good racing IMO--whatever that is. Frankly, I do think you need to have something leading up to the sport's greatest race. We love the feeling of one minute winter, and the next minute the biggest race of the season. The target demographic--which I'm not sure NASCAR cares about anymore--needs some lead up IMO.
I have no problem with dumping the Duels either. Every other race on the schedule seems to get along fine using qualifying to set the full starting line-up. Maybe NASCAR works too hard to generate interest in its season opener and not enough to make the final race unique?

As to lead-ups, isn't that what the ARCA, Truck, and Xfinity races are for?

Major League Baseball plays 162 games. Starts with Spring training in March and ends with the World Series in almost November. It would seem to me the NASCAR schedule would be a cakewalk compared to Major League Baseball and time away from families. It is a profession that someone has chosen to be in. They have a choice. Just like you shouldn't build a new house across from a race track then complain about the noise.

MLB plays half their games at home. Assuming we call Charlotte home, NASCAR has 1/13th of its schedule there.

I agree with your regarding racing being a chosen profession.

I am curious, why do the teams need additional time for rest? You are not the only person that mentioned this. Many people I know are lucky to get a two week paid vacation. My neighbor has worked six days a week for the past three years. Just trying to understand this.
I wont make a comparison to real world vs NASCAR world. It's apples and oranges. Those crews, mechanics at the shop, and engineers work super hard and are already are working 36 out of 52 weeks. That's insane IMO and makes for a hard lifestyle. Sure they're getting paid well for it but cant we improve their work life just a tad bit more?

No.
If they don't want to be there somebody will gladly fill her shoes.

When you can conceive a child during the Daytona 500 and give birth to it during Homestead, the season may be a little too long.

hmm but the same concerned fan? will watch foobah all year.;) I guess star of the half time show would work? :D

Hell no. Get it done while I'm too busy watching racing to pay attention. If you get my drift.

Foobah don’t last all year, it’s only about 5 months long. And I’m usually ready for it to be over too by the time it ends. Some fans probably would watch it all year I guess, but not me.

I have no way to understand or connect with those of you who want less races and shorter seasons.
There are sooooo many options.
Start watching after the west coast swing.
Take the summer off.
Tune out as soon as your hated playoffs start.

Also, along the same lines...…… If you want shorter races...…….
Step 1- Check listings for green flag time.
Step 2- Tune in approx. 1 hour later, or 2, or 3.
The options are endless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can literally say that about anything else. So lets having racing 52 out of 52 weeks. NASCAR is getting their ass kicked by the NFL because the NFL is set up as a sprint from when training camp starts in July through Super Bowl . You only 16 week regular season games. Then it goes dark. To totally discount the less is more theory is incredibly reckless and a bit ignorant.

We can revisit this idea I had from a previous thread a few months back.....

“I think I might have a solution that will please everyone.....

A 365 race season. One race per day, every day, all year long. Offseason? Between 11:59pm on New Years Eve and 1pm on New Years Day. That’s your offseason. The season ends at a street course through Times Square in New York City on New Years Eve, and immediately after that race is over, the teams have to load up their stuff and book it Smokey and the Bandit style to Daytona in 13 hours to make it to the green flag of the Daytona 500. After that, it’s up to Alaska on January 2nd for a little ice racing, then back down to Atlanta on January 3rd.

You want some new tracks, you say? There will be new tracks. Iowa, Gateway, Rockingham, North Wilkesboro, Bowman Gray, Radiator Springs Raceway, Nurburgring, American Eagle Kartway, and one office complex in Charlotte where the drivers will compete against each other in NASCAR Heat 3 to determine that day’s winner.

The 265 race regular season will be followed by a 100 race/64 driver playoff. This will be whittled down to the Championship 60, who will compete for the title at the Ball Drop 500 in Times Square on NYE. Be sure to also catch the pivotal cutoff race at Talladega on Christmas morning. Sure the drivers and teams will miss out on their children opening their gifts, but screw ‘em, they know what they signed up for.

And with all of these additional races, we will need new TV partners. Fox, NBC, CBS, ABC, the CW, HGTV, The Hallmark Channel, QVC, the Game Show Network, and the DirecTV Setup Channel will all be a part of the action.”

And Nascar the season is too long. I think that pretty much depends on where you are coming from.

While the Memphis team is in Tennessee, Birmingham is actually a little closer to me. They play each other today, maybe that’ll help me decide who to root for.
The refs are letting them play, they don’t want to draw attention to themselves with those shirts they’ve got on.
The Atlanta Legends getting smoked at halftime. On pace for their worst loss in franchise history.

Yeah, I checked out the new league to see what it would be like. It won’t be appointment TV for me though.

Well then I also have seen posters here complaining about the costs of racing...... dont you think if you limit the amount of time you're racing, at the shop, paying mechanics/crew to prepare cars you would happen to save some money? Is that not logical?

actually it is stupid IMO. Some of these teams have over three hundred full time employees, who do you think they work for the Gov't. :p:D

Funny.
Since we are comparing apples to oranges.
The apple has expanded it's season in the last 20 to 30 years.
The orange really hasn't done much more. It's actually reduced the length of many of it's events.
I therefore hypothesize that size does indeed NOT matter.

This past Saturday Ray Evernham was at a car show I was at. They had a Q&A and the final question was about how to control the expense in racing. His answer "you can't". Are you suggesting that because there are less races that the mechanics/crew should receive a pay cut? I don't know how it works at a big time race shop, but I figured that the employees work year round. It does make sense that if you are not racing that the expense associated with racing at the track would decrease.

Adam Stern is a reporter, and "industry insiders" could be the official Nascar floor sweeper as a quoted source. There are going to be changes to the schedule but Nascar hasn't said squat about what they are two years from now.

I dont understand how its stupid, if NASCAR decrease the amount of races would organizations need 300 employees? Could they go part time?

Is the NFL the apple? Is NASCAR The Orange? Vice Versa? if you're going to be dismissive about my post at least let me know what you're being dismissive about

I love this post, because it is exactly on point. Fans tear into Nascar for trying to provide more game 7 moments... "It isn't organic." And then fans tear into any race that doesn't have game 7 moments... "That sucked. Cancel that race forever."

Jim France is truly stuck between a rock and a hard place.

and yeah, they can work at burger king.
Glad I amuse you. Just where in my post did I say they are going to work at Burger King?? Heavens, Indy Car mechanics who have a shorter season than NASCAR does must be on welfare and food stamps.

ya know Lew, I really think most of them in the bus spend more time laughing at most of this stuff than anything.

I'm sorry.

The apple is the NFFFFFFFLLLLLLLLL

The orange is NAAAAAAASSSSSSCCAAAARRRRR

Ya really think engineers who can work full time anywhere are going to work part time? or skilled machinists, or designers? You don't keep key people that way and a person doesn't just show up and know what to do on a racing team.

I'm sorry.

The apple is the NFFFFFFFLLLLLLLLL

ah got it. Now if I can get past you making me sound I am bit mentally challenged. The Apple is looking at making 18 regular season games at the next labor negotiation, as well as putting teams in London, having games in Mexico City, having new stadiums in huge markets in LA and new market in Vegas, player salaries at an all time high ( which are known by the way, we dont even know the earnings any more for NASCAR drivers), they also have a 24/7/365 day netowrk that has games on Thursdays as well as having games Sunday Night, Monday Night and Saturday's. The Orange has reduced their events while it cant even sign a series sponsor ( who is the series sponsor after Monster leaves again?), attendance is down at almost every track, has trouble attracting full time sponsors and star drivers are retiring earlier. Thank you Next.

I was trying to help ya out with the part time thing man. Ya really think engineers who can work full time anywhere are going to work part time? or skilled machinists, or designers? You don't keep key people that way and a person doesn't just show up and know what to do on a racing team. It ain't burger king.
I understand all that . But how is Indy Car making their short season work while everyone on here is arms around eliminating an exhibition all star race and exhibition pole race.
