Cup RACE thread --- Sonoma

The cars drive themselves.

Of course they don't, but still. Sonoma and Watkins Glen have become more about how good the car is than anything else. Guys who are known to be good at road courses, I miss Ambrose and Allmendinger for a race like this, to see the smaller teams have an opprotunity to win. Those guys had the skill to wheel a car that is usually mediocre to a win or close to one.

That's all I'm saying, it was fun to see that happen every now and then.

I love road courses, but I’ll go ahead and say it: Sonoma sucks. I far prefer Watkins Glen. There’s not enough passing zones and it always comes down to pit strategy.
Doesn’t seem like a realistic idea when the leader is pulling away on a green flag run.

The best drivers are up front

They should just run it until it blows up. Why waste time on pit road diagnosing the problem?

*tin foil hat on* wonder if it overreved when the 18 lifted his rear wheels off the ground. o_O

(I’m being slightly sarcastic)

I was here in 2013 when Martin won too. I still like the other 3 west coast tracks/races better.

Lol Christ this race just gets handed to the #19 team. Only competition plays for stage points, drops an engine, and loses radio comm.

At least Chase has a win so points don’t really matter.
They matter a little, the drivers’ points position after Race #26 determines how many extra bonus points (on top of the bonus points for wins/stage wins) they get going into the playoffs. In the grand scheme though, probably not a back breaker.

Might watch on the DVR tomorrow, but it sounds like not much is being missed at the moment. Besides the Elliott/Truex battle at the end of The Glen and the end of the ROVAL last year the road courses have been lacking recently for me. The stages have really screwed these places (Pocono included) where you can pit and not lose a lap.

How the **** did Chase's engine blow when he kept his car clean all race, yet Kyle's ****** front end is smashed in and his engine is fine. What the ****?
