Silly Season 2020

Y'all are basing this off of Suarez's upside. Which I understand your point of view, but as of 1 season ago Bowyer was able to get 2 wins.

I just think Suarez is an Allgaier type and nothing more than a couple/few wins in Cup like Stenhouse or something at most. Nothing wrong with running in the Xfinity Series and being competitive if that's where his path is.

so you say, I disagree with the best equipment part

I said some of the best. They've had years where they were more dominant in the full season but that's still some of the best equipment out there. He hasn't really been able to do much with it. He got really lucky last year at the Michigan rain shortened race because Harvick was about to pass him.

quiet as it has been kept, SHR is tied for third place in the win column 4 with Hendrick. JGR has won over half of the races 18, Penske has more wins 5 with one less driver than SHR has

I know who has the wins this season. Are you really arguing that SHR equipment isn't all that good? If Bowyer was as good as you seem to think he is they should have another 3 or 4 wins. Of course he never came close to that and I can't even recall him finishing 2nd this year.

no argument to it. You go ahead and believe what ya want to believe. And while you are at it, find a driver out there that you can guarantee a top ten ranking driving SHR equipment.

The same people defending Bowyer probably bashed Kasey Kahne, who won multiple times more then Bowyer over the same time period yet people couldn't wait to chase him out.

Suarez didn't either, so I'm missing your point in that regard.

Point is he's a young driver with upside. How many years before Chase Elliot won his first cup race? How many years before Kyle Larson did? Clint Bowyer is a washed up "old man" that needs to move on. SHR is hurting themselves not making a good business decision here. I get that Clint is a cool dude who everyone likes to drink beer with unfortunately he's 40 some years old now and that nonsense ain't going to win them any races.

2014, 2015 even 2018 SHR was dominant equipment. You going to argue that? We all know they have endless people and resources. There's plenty of guys who could win in SHR equipment but most of them already have rides.

Its a one year deal, its not going to hurt anything.

Do I think Bowyer is washed? Not really, but lets see how he gets on next season. It will probably be his last year in top notch equipment so everyone can finally stop complaining about the guy. The hate for him is absolutely ridiculous and unwarranted. Stewart-Haas does needs another driver that can win other than Harvick, there is no denying that. Maybe Custer can be a shot in the arm for the future? This is what they are banking on.

@kkfan91 Kasey's best season with HMS was 2012, after which he kind of started to flounder a bit. He did win, but I think what killed Kasey was his 16 and 17 seasons were just so up and down. It was time for them to move on with Elloitt and Byron coming into the frame. I wanted Kasey to stay with LFR, but his health scares at the end of the day unfortunately cut his career short. Kasey was far too inconsistent his last two to three seasons with HMS to keep. He went about two years without a win.

There's no hate for Bowyer here just pointing out the facts.

Suarez and Almirola are behind the guy, its the reason why he's still there. None of them are setting the world ablaze, but Bowyer and Almirola sponsors are still behind them and the performance leaves a lot to be desired. Yet, their performances werr satisfactory enough to suffice for another season. He was closer than the young guy they brought in, I expect SHR to bounce back next season. Almirola and Bowyer are gone after next year IMO, if they do not win at least once.

I'm stating as to why he was kept and not bounced out for Custer. Harvick is not getting any younger and they are going to need another driver at SHR to be that guy next to him. Facts are facts, they kept him and he will be back for 2020. He's top ten in the championship and was the second behind Harvick in terms of performance for the team.

Bowyer didn't win, Almirola, and Suarez did not win either. All of them have work to do to elevate themselves back to that level, if they can.

I assume think a 40-something with a demonstrated record of top 15 performance and solid sponsorship is the better business choice over unsponsored potential.

I like Daniel. I think he was forced up too early, and Arris make some mistakes in their contract with JGR. But, bidness, ya know? You can site Elliott and Larson and Logano, but there are plenty of others who've flamed out.

I think Aric's there as long as Smithfield keeps writing checks.

Great point about SHR needing a veteran to mentor the rookies. I don't think anyone would be surprised if Harv hung it up at the end of the contract. He obviously has a TV contract waiting for him. Between them, Bowyer definitely costs less to keep around.

Suarez has sponsors he'll get the backing. Bowyer had no sponsorship when he came to SHR and I wouldn't hang my hat on a sponsorship with Rush. The trucking industry is in contraction and has been for over a year now. I think the good teams with younger drivers have a much brighter future than those hanging on to guys that have never really stepped it up over their long career.

If this news had come a couple weeks ago, I think Junior would have made room for him. He may still do it. You know Junior is all about a HMS driver or one who has sponsorship.

There's been rumors floating around of Suarez to RCR. Presumably to a full time NXS car with some Cup races sprinkled in.

As much as I hate to see him go to a Chevy neither option would be a bad place to end up. It's not like he has a lot of choices.

Haas-Xfinity just laid an egg --

BUT, Cole may have the best Rookie ride next year. So he has that going for him. :)

People here are being way too generous to Suarez. He sucks, no more needs to be said. He hasn't sniffed victory lane. Even worse, he hasn't even sniffed the playoffs driving for top tier teams. He got beat by old "no neck" Newman. 'Nuff said.

Custer is a major upgrade over Suarez. As another poster mentioned, Suarez is an Allgaier type at best.

Well, he sniffed the playoffs, but not victory lane. I don't think he sucks (per say), he just never quite lived up to the billing, for me anyway.

Looks like I missed a good Xfinity race but I can't say I would do anything differently had I known it would be that. College football trumps Nascar even when my team has a bye week.

I haven't seen you cite facts, just make subjective declarations like he's "average", ignoring the definition of the word.

Kurt Busch may be a lot of things. One of them isn't average race car driver. Here's Kurt Busch in 2017 and 2018, strong years for SHR overall:

2 wins, 12 top 5s, 37 top 10s, 660 laps led, 14.3 average finish

Clint Bowyer during the same seasons with SHR:

2 wins, 15 top 5s, 29 top 10s, 512 laps led, 14.6 average finish

The questionable decision SHR and Gene Hass specifically made was getting rid of Busch. But the worst that can be said for Bowyer relative to his team and equipment is that he's no Kevin Harvick. Neither are at least 30 others who line up every week.

I’ve seen rumors of Zane Smith, Daniel Suarez, and Stewart Friesen taking over the 2 next year. I’d assume the ride will go to the highest bidder

I'm still mad they cut Kurt Busch loose. Kurt Busch is a champion of the sport and has about 3× as many wins as Bowyer. I was a Kurt Busch fan until he went to the 1 car this year. I'm done pulling for drivers in Chevys. But truthfully even Kurt Busch underperformed at SHR for the first rate equipment that team has had. It was really disappointing to see him fade in so many races and also see Harvick either dominate or come oh so close in those same races.

Kevin was not Kevin before he got his new CC and an owner who gave the team what they wanted.

The difference was the CC and I doubt SHR ever had first rate equipment.
Yes Tony won a championship but he was Tony and the owner as well.

Kevin was Kevin at RCR in the 29, he was pretty damn good there. Went toe to toe with JJ in 06,10, and 11 at the height of JJ’s dominance. Won a Daytona 500, Southern 500...Kevin’s achievements at RCR I feel....get forgotten about.

You guys are talking crazy stuff saying SHR equipment isn't first rate. You're so wrong it's borderline delusional. How many times did Kevin Harvick come in 2nd place in 2015 not to mention every other year all the second place finishes since his championship year? If he had closed on half of those 2nd place races he'd be unquestionably the best driver in the past 5 years with the most wins by a huge margin.
