College Football 2019

Baylor really out here doing this for real, huh?

The ol' alma mater up 10 on Cinci at the half and Georgia State up on App State early. Things getting interesting in the G5 race.

Baylor has entered the equation if they can pull this off. Holy schmollly this not how I thought this would go for them

Fumblepalooza this game, great game. Rooting for Baylor to take OU down. I legit thought OU was a top 4 team early in the season with Hurts.

Baylor has to get moved up inside the top 7 if they win this

Shocker in Waco. Wow.

One of the gutsiest wins of the season by anyone. Down 28-3 on the road against an unbeaten in a tough environment. Resume builder for OU.

The door is opened for Oregon or Utah if Georgia doesn't deliver. OU is interesting if they get moved up from this

Upcoming games, Penn State will need to pull off the upset against Ohio State to stay alive in playoff conversation, biggest game of the weekend.

Oregon and Utah better not go to sleep @ASU and @UofA

Coaches Poll still about the same situation, except we lost both of our undefeated cinderella's Minnesota and Baylor, and Oklahoma moves up.
1) LSU
2) Ohio State
3) Clemson
4) Georgia
5) Alabama
6) Oregon
7) Oklahoma
8) Utah
9) Penn State

Really blows my mind how short of a stick Oklahoma is getting. Beat a ranked 9-0 team on the road and they move up from #10 to #9 basically just because Minnesota lost. May as well have played Kansas again this week.

I would be fine with this, but I still feel like 6 is the perfect number. This also rewards the top two teams with a bye, which I think they deserve if you're going to open up the playoff to additional teams. By the end of the year there are rarely, if ever, more than 5 or 6 teams still deserving a chance to be in the conversation for a national title, and I don't like anything that further diminishes the value of the regular season. 6 is logical and fair, 8 is borderline too many, 16 is wayyyyy too many.

I don't like 6 because that leaves out an undefeated G5 team. IMO if a G5 team goes undefeated then they deserve a shot just like any other team in the country. Why don't they just separate the G5 entirely from the power conferences just like FCS if it's some exclusive club?

Either a 5-1-2 model or 5 P5 champions with 3 at-large with the contingency of a G5 team going undefeated as a guaranteed at-large.

Then you have your CFP NY7 bowls: Peach Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Cotton Bowl, Orange Bowl, Rose Bowl (semi-final), College Football Championship as your game sites.

Yeah not good for OU, wouldn't be the first time the committee didn't think highly of the Big12, at least they'll have 2 top 25 matchups @OKst and Baylor again if they keep winning. Blowing out TCU this weekend would be a good start.

Here’s why your argument is bad though, we’re here with Georgia at 4 and Alabama at 5. Haha all this debating and in a system where only 4 make it Georgia can lose to a South Carolina team that will probs finish 4-8 and no one cares.

That’s why 8 is such a bad idea, you’re giving everyone mulligans and no reason to play tough games in the non conference. OSU, Clemson and Alabama played absolutely no one in the non conference, so just gotta get thru the conference season with a loss and you’re in with 8.

And auto bids will never happen bc ACC. Let’s say Pittsburgh goes 8-4 and makes it league title game. You can’t have an unranked team win their league championship in some miracle upset and get into the playoffs. Haha if you think this arguing is bad, we could have Clemson still get an At Large bid and Pitt make it.

Also ticket prices have gone down substantially on these games as many fans can not afford to travel to two of these games.

And finally so many on here complain about NASCAR being cheapened by the Chase, why do we want the same thing to happen to the college game?

I'm a G5 fan that's why my argument is bad. Don't know what the haha is for though. I wasn't arguing with anyone.

Good points on the bolded. Don't fix what isn't broken. Look how good the entire duration of this regular season has been.

Let’s not forget why playoff was created (besides money), 4 covers the year when more than 2 undefeated big time programs happen. That's this year with LSU, Ohio State, Clemson, insurance for the committee from having to make that decision.

Watering down of any sort beyond that I'm not in favor of. Just take the Baylor/Oklahoma game as example, that game probably doesn't have the same electricity to it for Baylor being a must win to stay undefeated and in the national championship conversation. They'd have a mulligan to get right back in if they can beat Oklahoma in their second meeting for the Big12 title, same for Oklahoma if they had lost (if it was extended to 8 and guaranteed conference winners).

Also not real big on putting college football players through more games when they're not getting compensation worth the risk.

Agree to disagree. Strength of schedule for your typical G5 school is much weaker. Going undefeated against the C-USA or Sun Belt or whatever shouldn't earn you a playoff bid.

That being said, if an undefeated G5 school has a good enough resume (beating a few quality P5 opponents, dominant performance against their own conference) then they should/would be considered for the 6th playoff spot just like any P5 team.

In a 6-team scenario, I'm not even sure it needs to be the P5 conference champions plus one at large. Like someone said above, if a 7-4 Pitt wins their conference, they probably don't deserve to make it in above a 1-2 loss Baylor or Georgia or Florida or Penn State or whoever. Maybe it can just be the 6 most qualified teams? I haven't thought about it enough to have an opinion one way or the other yet. I just know 8 is too many, and I like how 6 would reward the top 2 with a bye.

Georgia lost to a horrible south Carolina team. Nobody cares because SEC!!
Georgia has won against Notre Dame, Florida, and Auburn. Strength of schedule matters. Anyway, as long as Georgia wins rest if games they will be in playoff.

Georgia flirting with disaster for the 2nd week in a row

I’m not convinced that Georgia’s all that good. They’re gonna get dismantled by LSU in the SECCG, assuming that’s the matchup.

"I'm not liking what I'm seeing" their offense looks very very challenged. Hunch it will take care of itself against LSU.
