Utter poked the bear and messed up

I must really be in the minority but I like Dave El Presidente, his pizza reviews crack me up. I also think its awesome he's a fan of NASCAR and has become a fan within the last year or so.
 
Utter didn't do anything wrong in my book. Barstool just launched all their minions at him which is irresponsible for an outlet NASCAR pays to be there. Jim is one of the best, and has no tolerance for the stupidity of trolls who get butt hurt when he blocks them. It's how everyone should handle assholes online.

The Barstool people arnt for everyone and I get that. But I happen to enjoy them and I dont feel the need to apologize for it, I find them entertaining I guess and I am glad they are involved with racing which I have a love for.

That's fine. I don't like the guy and the mob behavior he inspires and revels in. That said, there are surely many regular decent people who enjoy their content. They are good at what they do.

I mainly wanted to note that Mr. Portnoy "became a fan" when NASCAR decided to place a lucrative media advertising spend with his company.

He provides a service, Nascar threw some money his way out of their advertising budget. Barstool is not doing their nonsense for the hell of it, their fans get a misshapen pleasure out of it. Apparently there is a following for that sort of thing. I doubt Nascar paid much for it.

Mostly agree except for the reality that Barstool's audience is large and young enough to be worth major $$ in the advertising world. I was ambivalent about the partnership, knowing that NASCAR has to do what it can to attract young males. However, most of Barstool's relationships with corporate partners don't end well, and it is easy to see why. I hope NASCAR stuck a non-disparagement clause in the contract.
 
It's unlikely that this association will end well.

From what I can tell by the context here, a 'traditional' reporter made an off-handed reference to a 'social media influencer'. That upset the SMI, who passed his unhappiness along to his / her influencees. Since all this is happening on the Internet, the basement-dwelling portion of the influencees has taken their umbrage on line. As is usual with the web, that umbrage is being expressed in the most vulgar and violent of ways.

How'd I'd do?

You're doing pretty well Charlie, coming in blind. To add context, two things:

1. Utter did make an essentially false accusation via a flippant remark. The way a cognitively healthy person would deal with such an accusation is to refute it, proving it false and causing the accuser to look like a fool. Instead Portnoy hyped it up and coaxed his mob to humiliate Utter and anyone who objected.

2. Portnoy is now a very wealthy man, and has made his fortune doing this over and over and over again. He takes pride in his loyal followers' ability to intimidate anyone who crosses him.

Just more confirmation that this joint and a birding forum are as close to social media as I want to be.

He deserves it. He called them “misogynistic and lewd assholes”. Jim Utter went immediately to the weird Joey Logano question being a “stupid barstool thing”.

I don’t want to hear all this crying when these people openly attacked Barstool on Twitter and then are complaining about the mob. That’s like me yelling the Dallas Cowboys suck outside of the stadium and then complaining they hurled insults at me
