So Berry in the 8 for the first part of the season and Mayer in the second half of the season
so who lost their ride??

I know Jeb Burton was in it sometimes and Daniel Hemric did as well. Daniel Hemric was in it the most races tho. Jeb only has like 9.


wait and Jr for one race.
 
Great to see someone get the nod who cut their teeth through southeastern late model racing, seems like a rarity these days if you don't have a big last name.
 
Love the way the news was broken to Josh Berry, and its nice to see a guy get a promotion based on skills not funding
 
Many people are saying (do you see what I did there) that they yearn for the lost purity of professional motorsport.

Things haven't been the same in the Cup Series since the second race of the 1949 season.

I didn't have TV then ( no one here did) and I wasn't driving myself then. :biggrin:
 
I was awaiting conception ... but even then I started to notice the advancing threat of Pay Drivers.

Mario Andretti brought in STP and they sponsored him when he was driving for March in F1.

Fernando Alonso had big sponsors behind him when he joined Minardi. (Telephonica)

Ayrton Senna had Banco Nacional gave him the leg up when he joined Toleman.

Open wheel examples, but even some all-time greats had money coming in. Michael Schumacher had Tic-tac backing to help him get the drive for Jordan back in 1991.

Pay drivers have always been there, did we forget to mention all JRM has right now are pay drivers? Every last driver brings in money to JRM, even Briscoe had Nutri-Chomps behind himself last year to get the ride with SHR.

Unfortunately, the deal fell through because the idea was to get the Nutri-Chomps deal to build into a B2B deal with a major pet store brand. It didn't come to fruition, but Chase had 12 races with them on the car as a primary sponsor.

You bring up a good point. Jr. Motorsports doesn't run ANYTHING unless the funding is in place, that is their (and many others) business model. I'm quite sure the reason Berry will be in a car next year is because SOMEBODY has agreed to pay for it. Whether it is somebody Berry brought in, or somebody JRM brought in, I have no idea,
but they simply don't announce a driver and then go looking for funding. Even Chase Elliott's deal there was contingent on a sponsor being found. No money, no ride.
 
When you can't get a car/driver sponsored for the full year, you sell smaller pieces of it. The 8 is Jr's admiral's barge also so a full timer in the car would screw up his one race yearly deal. They probably have enough with Berry's 12 race money and his JR's one to break even at least I would think.

From the way Jr. has talked, he may be done with his once a year race deals.

Berry didnt bring any money, he didnt even know he was up for a ride.

He just said on his podcast this week he's going to broadcast the Xfinity race from Martinsville because he wants to do his race there next year. So at least 1 more year of it.

Dale said it best, he earned this opportunity and Josh certainly has. I hope he does well and makes the most of his limited schedule.

He did a solid job in his few starts in the past. It is refreshing to see something like this.
