Cup RACE thread --- Sonoma

Yep, Larson was flawless there. Although Chase had two easy opportunities to lay the bumper to Larson on that first lap and move him out the way, repaying the favor from earlier. Decided not to. It’s a teammate, but that was soft.

Yeah, I would’ve moved Larson for sure. Teammate be damn, you’re paid to win.

Just ask Cousin Carl when he moved Kyle a few years ago.

I’m thoroughly enjoying the success Kyle Larson is having thus far. I’m a sucker for someone realizing their powers and then seizing greatness. Now it’s still early but I’m still impressed thus far.

That whole moronic crowd willfully forgetting about the rainbow caution.
Or times a car spins and NASCAR throws the yellow when it wouldn’t help Chase at all.

They just love to forget those moments and act like it just isn’t NASCAR being horrible at making decisions.

Also enjoying all the catty Chase posts in here. He’s still the reigning defending undisputed Cup Champion. Come playoff time he’ll be strong. I’m looking forward to the 5 vs 9 battle all year long.

I don't think so.

He tried to once but couldn't get to him. Larson got a killer restart and I don't think Chase had the car to outbreak him. Too far back to even attempt a bumper imo, without sending them both. He clearly tried early on.

Elliott isn't "soft". He is racing his teammate (and competitors generally) the way he wants to be raced when he has the upper hand. I like that about him.
Yeah, he tried to get to his bumper but Larson was too strong in the braking zones and could send it harder. It wasn't Eliot being soft, it was simply him never being close enough after getting uphill. He's still top dog until Larson has more wins and a title imo, even though Larson is clearly the dominant driver of the season.

Mark Martin called. He wants his strategy back

Larson has now won his last four races between Cup and dirt sprint cars. He will be trying to win the biggest race in dirt late model racing, the Dream at Eldora, before next weekend.

Lmao like TODAY when NASCAR prematurely closed pit road, thus ruining the #9 team’s first pit strategy, and NASCAR apologized to them over the radio.

But yeah, they’re super into Chase.

He’s way back in the standings but…DAMN Bubba pulled that finish outta his ***

I look forward to the Glen and the Roval since we wanna put Larson’s road course skills on par with Elliott after 1 win at a track where Chase has never contended for wins. Knee-jerk city.

Elliott has 5 other RC wins that Larson doesn’t. People love hyperbole.

Jeff Gordon was the same way with Jimmie Johnson. It never worked out for him. The way I see it, this was no different. For what it’s worth, Larson roughed Chase up earlier in the race and Chase never repaid the favor.

Flashbacks.

Putting aside the Larson vs Elliot debate, it's clear that one of these two, or both of these two have potential to be the next generational driver.

With Gordon, then Johnson, are we to assume now that HMS will always have a driver a step above the field, regardless of what Gibbs, SHR or Penske do?

Racing ebb's and flows

I will say, the Elliott hate club better be glad they signed Larson cause you know who would've won these last 2 weeks if not.

It's ok if one guy is dominating and getting talked about nonstop as long as his last name isn't Elliott is what I'm starting to gather.

Chase is gonna be fine. He's a cerebral assassin. Sure Kyle is ahead now, but I dont think for a minute that is going to stay that way all year. Chase will go on his own run, its a question of when. Plus we've seen Larson put together a stellar regular season before and its crash an burn come playoff time. Now thats in different equipment I get that, but Im gonna bet on the guy that just did it not even a year ago. In a pandemic year no less when the world around him was going through everything imaginable. Chase will be there in the end. I'll be shocked if he doesnt make the Championship race.

I’d say Larson and Chase are at a Jimmie/Jeff level. Kyle could’ve easily won the last 5 races

You have a victim card that isn't warrented. The dude is the defending champ and there hardly is a hate club against Elliot. You don't like that Larson is outperforming him now.
