2021 Hungarian Grand Prix

F1 Has the dumbest fans. (Just check Twitter for context lol)

Hard to believe the entire fuel system is so dry there isn't enough to test. F1 sometimes.......arrgghh!

In the 70s, some guys were playing around with the extremely unstable hydrazine in their karts. One guy out west was killed in an explosion. The IFK made us run rubber tipped needle valves that would swell up on anything but gasoline and block the fuel flow. What a mess that created with motors blowing up all the time and wins going down the drain over nothing.

My point is, you can't leave any opportunity for teams to cheat the fuel, because they will damm sure do it. Hydrazine is deadly dangerous, and that's not the only thing you can dump in the tank and make the motor scream like hell. The FIA has to keep a handle on this stuff, and an occasional DQ is worth it so we don't have anyone else killed.

I still hate it, but at least the FIA is consistent on this. Let's hope Seb wins Spa to make up for it.

So you're telling me a car can't run out of gas?

So you're telling me a car can't run out of gas?

My question would be how?

They fill these things to the brim precisely to avoid these situations. Usually they don’t even come close to using the bare minimum.

My god F1 has ruled this once great racing series into a complete joke.
It's been a joke since Senna tried to push Prost into the pit wall at Estoril in 88, and from there the drivers just got more and more dirty. The FIA refuses to do anything about it, and quotes rules that are not even in the book, all while they ignore rules that are.

Aston should’ve been aware of that tbf. Sucks, but the teams know that and have more data than anyone else in the world could ever use so they should’ve been able to tell Seb to back off for a lap at some point.

I take it the sample is used to make sure there’s no Mikey Waltrip rocket fuel chicanery going on.

The rules say you must have one liter so they can test it. I don't like t either, but rules are rules and at least it's the same for everyone, and they apply it consistently.
If what you're saying is right and this is about adding stuff to the gas then F1 has to change this rule, I can't believe with today's technology they cant do a full fuel analysis with a 1/3rd ltr of gas, this DQ is definitely out of line.

Aston is saying that there should be over 1.4 liters in the car. They have appealed the decision and I read that the car is still in quarantine, so this may sort itself out after all.

There is or isn’t enough fuel in. This would be quite the ****** by the FIA to make.

The rule book is written by team innovations. F1 teams also have the spirit of Smokey Yunick (and a bigger budget). I recall reading when they stopped refueling during the race, a team created a freezer around the fuel cell to pack more fuel in to keep the power up. I'm guessing F1 has to test the fuel after the race due to someone's innovation.

the tanks are bigger than they need.so they only put just enough to run the race and the test, too save weight. sometimes they get it wrong.

If the pickup point is in the wrong place, you can't suck the fuel out. Aston is probably going to have to pull the fuel cell and gravity feed it out. It's probably already been done and we haven't heard the results yet.

Which brings me to my point, they were able to get 1/3rd of a liter that's almost 12oz., they can't tell me with today's technology they can't do a full analysis with that much fuel, this rule needs to be modified.

I think they can do it if push comes to shove. I think this is more about the FIA punishing them for not doing what they’re told.

Honestly I cannot believe what Bottas did. Dude legit sent it like some Charlotte Roval Xfinity race, was one of the dumbest moves I've ever seen on a track. Even Kyle Busch wouldn't do that

Simple misjudgment in the wet. Nothing to read into it.

In the other hand,

Mercedes seems to have made a choice for 2022.

Which is sad because Botas is not quite good enough for a Mercedes, but way better than anything else he can get. Wherever he lands, he's going to make that car sing.

I find the idea a bit out of touch.

Now Ferrari wants in in the Mercedes/Red Bull drama? Haha

Hopefully they don’t threaten to leave F1 like they always do when things don’t go their way.
I agree and I posted the liability insurance comment for a little snark or sarcasm.
But with F1 you never know, those guys like issuing heavy handed penalties.
I could almost see them requiring turn signals for lane changes and issuing tickets for non compliance.

It’s probably a more pertinent issue in the era of cost caps and PU grid penalties than anytime else. I’m not sure what the ‘solution’ is but as it stands now Leclerc, Verstappen, Perez, and maybe Norris are looking at 10-spot grid drops later in the season for engine changes while Hamilton lost 10 seconds and Bottas and Stroll 5-spot grid drops. I’d be a bit miffed too.

Still a bad idea, imo.

Most often than not it's actually the little teams causing mayhen. Imagine Williams having to pay Mercedes a cool million for damages cost at Imola Or Alfa Romeo paying for what they did to Hass last week.

This would bankrupt teams mid season who cant pay.

Red Bull should take some Mercedes and Nascar 101. Just shedup about getting took out and wait for the next hole that Hamilton leaves open.
Then call it just racing, accept the 10 second penalty, and act slightly chagrined while they haul Hamiltons cars away.

What about the time Kyle Busch wrecked Chase Elliott on a straightway?

Stewards ruled Bottas/Russell a racing incident but I get your point. I don’t think making the other team pay for damage in an incident where they’re at fault is necessarily the fix though, as Ferrari and Red Bull may want. It could be something like exempting crash damage repair costs when another party is at fault or allowing another PU to be installed without penalty if it were totaled in such an incident. I don’t think the current penalty structure really makes sense where you get penalized more for damage sustained than for damage inflicted.
