Cup RACE thread --- Road America

Chase has never focused on raw speed at these places. He looks for certain characteristics in the car and if it can do what he wants it to do based on how he attacks road courses. If it does, it generally doesn't end well for the others. He still doesn't sound happy with the car as fast as it is.

He could go down a cylinder or run the last lap on a flat tire and still have the field covered. Watch his line- he's not pushing at all.
No one really does when the field stretches out...in any race, at any track.

One thing that took me a long time to learn as a fan that guys spend WAY more time running less than all out than they do all out.

In any event, this race is over, barring anything significant or someone getting him on a GWC.

Lol Reddick braked deeper and later than the 5, and the 5 car still couldn't handle that braking.

I just don't think this car shines on RC's the way a lot of folks assumed it would with the enhanced brakes and steering.
I don't think it's RCs as much as it is flat tracks.

Not without adding horsepower.

Brakes won't be an issue.

As DW says, he's got speed in the bank. There's no reason Chase can't maintain a 1.5 second lead right now, as fast as that car is.

Part of the allure of stock cars on RC’s was the solid axles and bad brakes. Made them a beast to handle. This car is made for this style of racing. A lot of the attrition was built out of it. That, and with the curbed horsepower…they have some work to do.

They’re reminding him what the gap is and to “just maintain” when he gaps them in a lap.

100% agree they need more power.

Any major racing series in this country that has a healthy diet of road courses should run Road America. We don’t necessarily need to lose this to run Chicago, even if that’s originally where the date came from.

That said, this is another place I’d hardly be opposed to adding 80+ HP back. Despite the massive car overhaul to be more suitable to road racing, the car runs slower lap times here than the Gen 6 last year. There are some looooooooong straights at RA.

I don't like that. You got 4 laps left, a million turns, and 4 seconds. He can afford to give up a full second per lap and be totally fine if brakes are that much of a concern.

OR, they're not nearly as much of a concern as NBC is making them out to be.

Like I said, have Chicago if you’re so hellbent on it. Just take the date from a track more deserving of losing one: Texas, Richmond, Pocono
