Interest builds around possible changes to NASCAR schedule

While I agree I don't think the sanctioning body should ever let the tv partners tell them what to do

Ditto. TV partners imo have way too much power. TV money pays the bills so that’s the end all be all. But I don’t see for example, to my recollection, ABC/TNT telling the NBA what to do, where to have their games or how to have their games. But yea, it’s the world we live in.

This isn't stick n ball, it's racing.

But a stick n ball playoff format is used to crown a champion….I’m missing your point, I think I know it’s racing. I posted in a message board for racing
You’re being obtuse. There are many more opportunities for broadcasters to influence an auto racing sanctioning body than there are are in their relationships with “stick and ball” organizations.

Don’t want NASCAR racing “being told what to do”? No problem ... Find $10 Billion to cover the next ten year broadcast contracts.

I get tired of pointing that out over and over lol. I guess they can take up a collection so they can tell Nascar et al what to do

I better start taking up a collection now, gonna need a lot of cash. Would they take a Venmo?

Sure I was probably being a bit slow there on purpose. I wish nascar was in a place like the nba or nfl to tell the networks to pound sand when they come up with their ideas. They can’t, the tv money is so important. I think it’ll always be that way for racing, maybe streaming can change it.

Ron Barfield, eh? There's a name I haven't heard in a while....

Atlanta has been contacting me several times about purchasing tickets, most recently for next year's race. So I told them if you give me a date, I'll probably buy em. You know the answer..."we don't know yet."
It's a little amusing to me that a race track wants you to buy tickets when you don't have any idea when the race will be run.

I hope Atlanta II is the regular season finale and Daytona goes back to the 4th of July weekend and Road America after Daytona

Just matter of what gets dropped at this point:

Yikes…a street course in Chicago replaces a legit track somewhere. Another lob at a huge market, which really isn’t about the racing as much as the spectacle and a TV ratings splash. I respect those who’d look forward to this but it attracts me even less than the LA Coliseum gimmick.

The Pintys series has some pretty good races on the street course at Toronto, better than small ovals IMO.

Lori coming through in the clutch. Trying to get a dome on Soldier Field and now this bomb.

I didn't see the attendance numbers for road America but everything I saw they packed them in again.

How does ticket sales even work for a street course?

Why in the actual hell are they street racing in Chicago when the Pacific Northwest market is still untapped. Portland showed that there is at least an immediate interest....but if that track isn't what NASCAR is looking for head up to the Seattle area, and let's go street course racing. I don't get it.

Because nascar is obsessed with chasing markets. Why else did they race in LA?

comparing the population in the greater Chicago area to Portland Or and the chances for a rainout weather wise and the logistics of distance makes the actual hell much cooler $

After spending a lot of time in the area I'd like to see a track around Grand Junction, CO. Under 5 hours from Denver and the Front Range, Salt Lake City and the Wasatch Front, and 7 hours from Albuquerque. All areas with explosive growth in the last 20 years and where the populations love RV'ing/travel. In one of the most scenic parts of the country and zero weather issues to boot. You already have millions travelling here in the summer too with Moab and the CO/UT national parks.

Never gonna happen with Phoenix, Auto Club, the LA Coliseum, and Las Vegas tracks all stacked on top of each other (relatively speaking, for this part of the country).
