Silly Season 2023

I have goosebumps.

What INCREDIBLE news. Preece in a top-tier Cup car, full-time. I cannot WAIT!!!!

For those who don't know... I grew up watching Preece wheel his modifieds back in Connecticut. Probably took candy from him during pit parties they would do at the beginning and end of the season. Going to Stafford Motor Speedway in the late 00s/early10s was absolutely amazing. The talent pool was ridiculous with some of the best short track drivers in the country. Preece, Pennink, Rocco, the late Ted Christopher, Avery, Pitkat. Preece always had the talent. He's won championships at Stafford, Riverhead, and the Whelen Modified Tour. Even when he ran Xfinity and Cup he'd still come back to New England and run a bunch of races in his modified. What a treat then, to see the same guy who raced Sundays in the 37/47 come to Stafford on a Friday night and race with the locals again. This is not Kyle Larson or Christopher Bell racing dirt wherever the Cup series takes them- this is a guy who wants to race in front of the hometown fans that have supported him now for 15 years.

Listen as I tell y'all this- the kid can drive. He wheeled one of the ****box, red, Flex Seal cars to a ridiculous top 15 finish at Loudon and ran most of the day top 10 in his Xfinity days. Then when he raced JGR he cleanly, straight-up passed Kyle Busch (also in Xfinity). His first win at Iowa in Xfinity was another clean, talented pass.

If you want a driver who passes people with TALENT instead of getting into them like half the field these days- this is your guy.
If you want a driver who works on his own racecars- this is your guy.
If you want a driver who comes from the middle-class- this is your guy.
If you want a driver who's "old school" and went through the ranks of short track racing, Xfinity, and racing crappy cars for years before getting his breaks- this is your guy. He is an incredible 32 years old... he's been in the system THAT long! What he's done is completely old school.

So happy for Ryan!!!

Happy for Preece.. he deserves it more than Custer.. unfortunately I believe SHR is an overrated team that has only ever really done well with veteran drivers that can outperform their equipment. Namely Stewart and Harvick. I don't think Preece is on their level in terms of talent and will likely only run 1 or 2 average positions higher than Custer.

You won't he hired as a talent scout anytime soon.

He didn't set the world ablaze with JTG, but being a second car for them I can imagine was a struggle.

Good chance for Preece, good dude and a pretty solid shoe.

Tony got what he wanted and Cole going to Xfinity will help Ford there. Herbst had better step it up next year.
You really think he could have " set the world ablaze" in a JTG car? Second car or first?

I have low expectations, Preece doesn't have to do much to run ahead of the back row like Custer does every freaking week.

It's JMO, but I think he will be better than Cole. He's been the reserve and sim driver, I think he'll hit the ground at a decent pace.

Team has its moments, but very hit and miss. I guess I was expecting too much after seeing how Buescher did in the 37. Yeah, I think thats why I expected a bit more.

Custer has that one Kentucky win, but outside of that, I didn't realize just how brutal his Cup results have been. 108 starts for SHR, the one win, and a 5th at Indy. That's about it.

I just hope he gets paired with a good CC. I think the days of a driver just carrying a car are long gone.

Mutually beneficial move at this point, Custer goes down to Xfinity regain some confidence hone his craft maybe get another crack at it down the line.

Preece seems primed for another shot in Cup, glad to see it, I like him the same way I like Allgaier and Buescher. The 41 car has been very enigma so hopefully he can bring it to life.

Preece is a massive upgrade over Custer. He'll probably be closer to Briscoe than Custer performance wise. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a win or two next year. Being an SHR fan, I have to say I'm stoked about the news.

I’m still not a fan of JGR getting rid of the 18 at all, and they ditch it for a Kyle Busch number. I dunno maybe it’s out of respect for Coy but that didn’t seem like the reason.

I think it mat be a branding play. Monster may be stepping up their game with JGR for 2023 and want to make a seamless transition

Yeah guess so. I dunno, gonna miss seeing the 18.

I think Monster is a silly fit for him. Seems like a Cub Cadet, Interstate Batteries driver. IMO

Preece did OK at JTG. He had 4 top 10s and a top 5 in 2021 with Ricky having only 2 top 10s and a top 5. DNF's killed him and his average finish was always awful because of it. 6 DNF's in 2019, 8 in 2020, and 8 in 2021. His plate track skills really shined. While both were usually running in the 20s, Ricky usually had a 15th-20th place run ever few weeks while every 6 weeks or so Preece would be right outside the top 10.

Jeb Burton posted a couple pen emojis on his Facebook page so I'm guessing he signed with someone

I like what RFK is doing. Since Brad bought in, their performance is getting better, and they are getting their name out there a lot on the social media side.
Seemed like a lot of people over there that refused to change. Honestly if Brad didn't buy in or whatever I think they don't exist in 3 years

Moves from SHR to RFK

Report: RFK Racing, Rick Ware Racing to Forge Technical Partnership for 2023

I find this one interesting. Initially I thought if they couldn't do anything with an SHR alliance what do they plan on doing one with a lesser team? Then I got to thinking they're actually probably getting a higher level alliance for a lot better deal than what SHR could offer. Might be a better move

Yeah that could be it, trying out another bunch might be a better fit for them. I would think looking from the outside that RFK would want their business.

****ye, I just realized I need a new Picture. Problem is I can't find a picture of anyone who has accomplished more.
Should I go with a new #6 and hope?

I wonder why his name keeps coming back? Could it be he has a relative with the same last name pulling some strings?
I like the guy and I'm happy he's coming back but I agree that Jeff is most likely not a future Cup champion.
He's been sponsored by Forever Lawn for some time and unlike ik9 they actually stuck with him.
