2025 NASCAR TV contract

If they go streaming they need to face the reality of a likely significant drop in viewership. It's no secret that the majority of nascar fans aren't exactly young and making them pay for something to literally only watch races on will be a tough sale.

I think I'd probably pay for it but I'd have to look at the time of year and which races it would be.

I'm already paying for a cable tier I wouldn't have otherwise. Six of one, half dozen of the other.

Streaming only is gonna have a serious drop in viewership. It’s not gonna effect me but……

But in addition to paying for that cable tier you'll have to pay for a streaming service you wouldn't use otherwise. At some point people will make a choice.

I'm not going to pay for a streaming service just to watch a nascar race. There are ways to watch without paying just like when MLB games are on apple tv.

I'm not paying for another streaming service to watch certain races. I just won't watch them. There's a breaking point where enough is enough

There are too many.

If EVERY race that was on NBC and USA was ALSO on Peacock, it's a different story.

Exactly. And I think running those select races on NBC or USA and Peacock would have been a better idea to build the viewership. It would get cord-cutters who only have Peacock to notice the sport who otherwise wouldn't see it on USA, without alienating the current viewers that don't have Peacock.

Don’t be surprised if they get a couple of events exclusive to streaming. Note how the NFL did their Thursday night games with Prime only. Granted that’s a lot of households, but the precedent has been set. Perhaps NASCAR would do select non-points races only, like the Daytona duals, All-Star race, etc.

Benefit isn’t worth the reward unless they’re doubling their TV money than last time.

Move it all to streaming amd I could drop the tier.

$5 monthly for Peacock is pretty cheap. I spend more on Diet Pepsi every week

If NBC stays I’d expect a portion of the USA balance of the schedule to shift to Peacock, more so for Xfinity. The reasoning is the same as it was for FS1 and NBCSN a decade ago, with a different platform. If it gets NASCAR both more OTA races and more money it’ll probably be well-received among the teams. Something like 14 OTA/3 USA/3 Peacock for Cup races wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.

Streaming exclusives are going to have to be a part of the deal pretty much no matter who bids for the second half of the season. No doubt about it ESPN+ would be involved if Disney put up big money for the rights. That’s just the sports media rights market at the moment. Everyone has streaming exclusives in some capacity.

Media companies trying to have their cake and eat it too. Trying to force us to have cable and streaming.

Remember who owns NBC.

Nothing new there, or unique to that business.

NBC did, with INDYCAR, put all the races on Peacock, regardless of if they were on NBC, USA or OTT only. They do the same thing with the Olympics and Sunday Night Football.

I'm hoping they do the same with NASCAR.

The streaming stuff is ridiculous now though. Some of these were $9-$12 when I first got them and now they're $20+ per month.

Netflix was $9/month when I first began using it. Now it's $19.99/month (for 4K), it was a little cheaper than that when I canceled. I think the "Disney Bundle" or whatever it's called is up to $22/month now.

I'm sure HBO Max is going to go up, and no longer be free to AT&T customers, when Zaslav guts it to turn it into Honey Boo Boo Max.

I can’t believe they want to do Peacock Exclusive. Not a fan, didn’t bother with it for Toronto Indy or SX. Didn’t get my $$$.

Better having a 3rd network like TNT or TBS than that crap.

ESPN+ is actually good compared to Peacock. At least with ESPN+ they seem to work together with Hulu & other services to expand their reach.

Hulu is also owned by Disney

The NFL has taken another giant leap forward in embracing streaming, as Sunday Ticket is moving to YouTube.

Everyone may as well make peace with it.

As for the Peacock thing from SBJ, this is just a prediction, not even a rumor. Probably an educated guess. But, SBJ also predicted, last year, that NBC would bow out of contract renegotiations.

NASCAR isn’t the NFL. And they’re still on network TV 90% of the time besides Prime.

The NFL deal with YouTube is honestly perfect and exactly how this type of model should work.

NASCAR is ALREADY streaming these races on YouTube to international audiences. They could just create a "Primetime Channel" for NASCAR for $5/month and people can purchase it through there, instead of having to subscribe to a failing OTT service.

Streaming is going to happen, and Peacock isn't a terribly expensive service compared to others. Many of its rival services are two, three, four times the cost or more.

But the Peacock app does suck.

Still, I wouldn't rush to conclusions about an SBJ prediction, the same predictions that predicted an NBC ouster.

My point is NBC wants to pay for exclusive streaming races to showcase their platform, which is silly. Which is a no bueno.

That's the game now.

How do we know Fox won't do the same thing? They might decide to put a couple races on Fox Nation to boost its subscription numbers.

NASCAR can set what they want too if they value themselves. Using TNT / TBS as leverage even.

Why should NASCAR pass up the increased revenue that comes with streaming just to keep all their races on OTA TV or on linear cable?

TNT/TBS? It would be borderline suicidal to sign with WB Discovery right now.

NASCAR would be saying they don't value themselves if they took a deal, likely for less money, to put all of its races on OTA TV? They'd be signaling to marketing partners that our fanbase is either too old or too poor for streaming, so there's no point in selling your product with them.

Oh, and Comcast will probably end up owning WB Discovery in the next few years anyway, so NASCAR may as well go right to the distributor.

NASCAR is going to accept whatever makes them the most money. They may consider which formats get the most value for the car sponsors, but it isn't likely to be their top priority.

The broadcast partners are going to use the channels they think will make them the most money overall. Note that making the most money does not automatically equate to capturing the largest number of viewers.

As long as they get THEIR piece of the pie, they could care less about anyone else, with fans and sponsors who need the TV exposure at the very bottom of the barrel. All Brian France could talk about when he was on the Download was money, money money, and I don't think much has changed in Daytona Beach. If somebody would give then ten billion to only broadcast Cup races on a cable access channel at 2AM in Cedar Rapids Iowa, I think they would take it. It all becomes nothing but a weenie measuring contest, and the guy that signs the biggest deal gets bragging rights. Whether the deal is actually worth a damn or not is irrelevant as long as the checks cash.
