Deegan update

I have seen this - Agreed. Question, why didnt Danica receive the same excuseapolooza? I mean I was/am a diehard DP supporter, but I was fighting an army of nay sayers.

I was never anti-Danica, I wanted her to succeed too, but honestly she was NEVER as likable as Ms. Deegan in my opinion, even though her valley girl voice wears on my brain after awhile. I can understand and accept the opinion many have that Deegan is not very talented, I just don't get the aggressive hatred. She isn't doing anything anyone else wouldn't do given the same circumstances, and think she has conducted herself like a professional under some trying situations. She interacts well with her crew, she doesn't whine every time something doesn't go her way, she doesn't play the girl card all the time, and doesn't throw the team under the bus when they don't run well. I think she has good car control. Her one and ONLY sin in my opinion, is she isn't super fast. Is THAT a reason to be outwardly hostile to her? As for her media presence, it probably isn't that big in the grand scheme of the world, but there are companies willing to pay for her to do something we would all give our left gonad to get to do. Isn't that big enough? You can argue that she hasn't earned the opportunity she has, but I could probably name 20 GUYS in NASCAR's top three series I could say the same thing about. Why single her out?

If the point is she sucks as a driver and the only reason she gets coverage is because she is an attractive female.

Theres no bad press, according to Dale Sr. Let the kid race a bit more before we call her a bust.

Life ain't fair is it. They have all of these rich kids in racing that can't hold a wheel, wimmen racers, old guys, somebody should write a book about it.

Name the 20. I dont "hate" nor am I hostile. I'm presenting facts and the reason she is discussed more than others is because of the coverage she gets but I understand why she gets it. Just to show I'm an equal opportunity critic, Drew Dollar couldnt drive a nail in a mud puddle and he should be banned from driving a race car.

Yeah I forgot family nepotism in the list can't forget to write about that. The perfect race is when they all cross the finish line at the same time, all come from humble beginnings, all male...REAL racers.

Danica did a helluva lot more than Hailie ever dreamed of. She’s a good wrecker for ya I guess.

I was never anti-Danica, I wanted her to succeed too, but honestly she was NEVER as likable as Ms. Deegan in my opinion, even though her valley girl voice wears on my brain after awhile.

For me, her "likability" wore off when she called a pandemic that killed over a million Americans a hoax and complained about her car getting dirty from deadly wildfires that killed and displaced many. That was after she made snarky comments about "old guys" in ARCA who have been the backbone of that series.

I can understand and accept the opinion many have that Deegan is not very talented, I just don't get the aggressive hatred.

For one segment of the fanbase, it's Danicamania II. The media is pushing Hailie Deegan hard, hailing any on-track accomplishment as historic, and if you don't think she's the second coming savior of the sport, you're misogynist.

A lot of people also see Hailie Deegan as everything that's wrong with the sport. She's here because of money first, and her own supporters will tell you that it doesn't matter if she's any good, "sOcIaL mEdIa NuMbErS" and "27 PaGeS!"

And another segment of the fanbase, see above: Her polarizing comments about COVID and the California wildfires that both showed a stunning lack of empathy for someone who is supposed to be the likeable, down to earth "girl next door" type.

Why single her out?

Because of all the reasons you mentioned. The bigger the spotlight, the bigger everything that comes with it.

Hailie Deegan supporters seem to think that she's supposed to get this big spotlight because of her looks alone but not any of the criticism that comes when she doesn't perform.

Danica had the advantage of being the first women in a long while to race in Nascar. I think she did more harm for females in racing than she did good myself, but I don't continue to whine about it. Deegan has much better car control and is doing quite well considering her lack of pavement experience growing up. Personality wise fans love her.

She didn't do more harm than good. That's total bull****.

Danica Patrick opened the doors, and countless young women have pursued their racing dreams because of Danica Patrick.

Here are just what a few said, and what Danica Patrick said about the subject, in 2017:

The funny part about that too is, the opinion that Drew Dollar shouldn't be racing is universal.

But...

I think the jury's still out on Hailie, but people are pretending she's performed way better than she actually has thus far.

Neat website. I can do this too round and round 29 pages

Hailie Deegan Is Everything That Is Wrong With NASCAR, and the Numbers Don’t Lie

For me, her "likability" wore off when she called a pandemic that killed over a million Americans a hoax and complained about her car getting dirty from deadly wildfires that killed and displaced many. Hailie Deegan supporters seem to think that she's supposed to get this big spotlight because of her looks alone but not any of the criticism that comes when she doesn't perform.

1) What about the segment of the fan base just content to let her race and sink or swim based on whatever talent she may or may not have and not lose any sleep about it one way or another?

2) Do we have any recordings of YOUR opinions when you were 18-19 years old? We also know that your politics and evidently hers are diametrically opposed, and she could have spoken with the reserved tones of Mitch McConnell and you would still be slamming her for it. If I used a person's less that enlightened social comments as a barrier to entertainment, I wouldn't be able to watch hardly ANY movies or TV shows, or listen to much music. (Whoopi Goldberg anyone?) I guess I won't be able to watch Jumpin' Jack Flash ever again.

3) Maybe I'm just blind, but I don't see the "media" pushing her all that much. I see her and her sponsors promoting her as they should. She's the most popular driver in her series, so yes, the announcers are going to mention her out of proportion to her performance, just as they did with Dale Jr, Dale Sr, Danica, Jeff Gordon, Michael Waltrip, Bill Elliott, you name it. Don't like it? Blame the announcers, not her. Hate that she's the most popular driver? Blame the fans, not her. If you have an issue with her fans, take it up with THEM. Many Dale Sr. fans were the most obnoxious race fans I have ever encountered, but I never held that against HIM.

Harrison Burton
Jeb Burton (who I like)
Cody Ware
Drew Dollar
Jack Wood
Joe Graf Jr.
The Gray Clan
Jesse Iwuji (Great guy, can't drive a nail)
Myatt Snyder
Natalie Decker
Thad Moffitt
Lawless Allen

Well, here's the start of a list off the top of my head. When I actually have time to think about it, I'll finish it out.

What about the segment of the fan base just content to let her race and sink or swim based on whatever talent she may or may not have and not lose any sleep about it one way or another?

Because that same segment wants to keep pulling her out of the water when she sinks and continues to claim she's the future of racing.

As many people that are claiming any of Hailie Deegan's detractors are , there are twice as many who think her results are acceptable because she's an attractive female that would crucify any male for having the same results. Hemisogynistll, look at how many on this forum lash out over the presence of Riley Herbst, who has objectively outperformed Hailie Deegan and that's not even up for debate. It's not okay for him to be in the sport because of money. John Wes Towney was regularly maligned for his presence and performance, and by the way, he had 9 top-10 finishes in his first two seasons in the Truck Series vs. Hailie's 3.

Do we have any recordings of YOUR opinions when you were 18-19 years old? We also know that your politics and evidently hers are diametrically opposed, and she could have spoken with the reserved tones of Mitch McConnell and you would still be slamming her for it. I guess I won't be able to watch Jumpin' Jack Flash ever again.

So, because she's 21-years-old, I'm supposed to just brush off her comments as "being a kid" or something? **** that.

Calling COVID a hoax and laughing about it would be the equivalent to laughing about 9/11.

Maybe I'm just blind, but I don't see the "media" pushing her all that much. I see her and her sponsors promoting her as they should. Go on Twitter anytime Hailie Deegan has a rare top-10 finish. They invent new statistics for how it's one of the most historic moments in the history of professional auto racing.

Dale Sr won 6 championships. Dale Jr won the Daytona 500, twice, and was a frontrunner until his Sonoma incident. Danica Patrick was literally a household name and an IndyCar winner. Jeff Gordon won 4 championships and is one of the greatest to ever do it. Michael Waltrip won the Daytona 500 twice, including on Black Sunday. Bill Elliott was one of the greatest to ever do it.

Harrison Burton

Actually won a K&N Championship, not just a couple races, was an accomplished Super Late Model driver before moving up to NASCAR, and has 11 top-5 finishes in the Truck Series in 40 starts compared to Hailie's 0 in 46 starts, has 4 wins in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, and is literally younger than Hailie Deegan.

Jeb Burton

Won a race in his first full season in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, and recorded five top-5 and 11 top-10 finishes that season, vs. Hailie's 1 top-10 in her rookie season.

Cody Ware

Criticized weekly on this forum and on social media.

Drew Dollar

Universally criticized.

Jack Wood

Who?

Joe Graf Jr.

Also criticized often on thos forum and on social media.

Myatt Snyder

Accomplished Late Model driver, has actually won an Xfinity Series races, had way more success at this point of his career than Hailie Deegan.

Natalie Decker

Universally criticized on this forum and on social media.

Thad Moffitt

Nice kid.

Lawless Allen

Criticzed often on this forum despite producing similar results to Deegan in inferior equipment.

Here are the facts. She has strong sponsorship, she is the most popular truck driver two years in a row. Looks like Ford moved heaven and earth to get her a ride. Probably not the only reason Ford bought into Thorsport, but hard to argue she wasn't an influence. Thorsport wanted her in the deal also. You hate her...who cares.

Here are some more facts: Hailie Deegan has three top-10 finishes in 46 starts in top-notch equipment in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

You, and others, have called me misogynist, which is laughable, because I don't think we should be lowering the bar to "getting social media clicks" for women in this sport. I want women to come in and be competitive and win races, not look cute, make viral YouTube videos and just hang around.

Here's a legitimate question for the people that are invested in this thread...
Predictions on where Hailie finishes the 2023 season?

I crashed and burned last year with my "5 top 10's" goal for her.
This year , I think a good goal is top 15 in points.

I wish it was gonna be that easy but the fact is, she will not be in better equipment at Thorsport. Her teammates consistently out performed her in the same equipment at DGR with Preece winning and Both Gray Brothers outperforming her consistently. Gilliland doesnt have second rate stuff. She was given the best of the best which included 2 of the best Crew Chiefs in the Truck series history. Mike Hillman Jr has 23 wins , 119 top 5's and 180 top 10's and Jerry Baxter has 16 wins, 61 top 5's and 110 top 10's. She is moving to a team that has Crafton, Rhodes and Majeski. Good luck
For the life of me I haven't been able to find anywhere proof to how great you say Gilliland's stuff is. If you find a record even close to Thorsport in ANY series post it up will ya.

Huh? DGR contracted drivers that could bring money not talent ( Deegan) When DGR had talent in the seat like Preece, Ankrum ,Todd its crystal clear that the equipment is top shelf with all of them winning.

What exactly do you think Thorsport can run that Gilliland cant? What "equipment" do they have that is better? All of the top teams that can win have basically the same stuff. The motors are the same, suspension parts are the same, the advantage is the people you have and what they can do with it and when Gilliland put drivers in the seat that had talent they all ran upfront and won, thats a indisputable fact. If he ran Preece for a Championship you dont think he would be in contention? Preece in 2022 ran 10 races won 1 and had 7 top 5's and 9 Top 10's He has Corey Heim in the Truck this year, lets see who runs better between him and your better supplied Superstar.

lol. You dizzy yet? Its ok, just admit you aren't capable of explaining the difference and the fact that Preece in "inferior equipment" was Championship caliber on a 10 race schedule.

once again, I was talking about the organization. The single truck team of Front Row is one threat. This year Gilliland changed his name to who knows what, doesn't have much of a driver roster, Kyle's team is down on everything, Niece is so so, Friesen/Halmar is ok, but guess who still is on business, still has four trucks, is the longest running Truck team in history, has a couple of new drivers, one is Majeski who won two of the last four races, Crafton and Rhodes are truck champions and you are trying to tell me Gillilands or any other organization next year are in better shape? Never mind.
