The End of the Camaro, Revman's prayers have been answered lol.

Soooo, Nascar has been around for 797 years, WOW! :lol2:

Even longer actually. The Circus Maximus was the original short track.

The 30 BC NASCAR Cup Series Presented By Our Dear Emperor is probably my favorite season personally. Rosstus Chastainiam won it that year by the skin of his teeth.

Wall riding the chariot was impressive but I have to be honest, all the horses needing to be put down afterwards is a bit of a downer.

(edit: legitimately loling still at "rosstus chastainiam")

Justin Markus and Trackcasem Racing probably weren’t happy but you have to push the boundaries. The stories of Rickus Hendrictum and his roided up horses were legendary and I still remember the T-Rex chariot but I don’t think we would ever see anything like that again.

Chadus Kanausus was the biggest cheater in history, he used Gauls for Jupiter's sake

Sadly, that is dead too. That car was built in Australia by the Holden company. GM owned a piece of it. I think Holden is gone.
Yep, they debuted the Camaro to race in Australia this year through 2025, even though it isn’t even available there. Holden Special Vehicles stopped doing right-hand drive conversions of the Camaro a few years ago, and now GMSV only offers the Silverado and Corvette.

That was the last season before they put restrictor plates over the horses' mouths so they couldn't get as much hay. They had to do something to keep horses from getting into the stands at Talladegii.

People still talk about Rosstus' 'Haul Hadrian's Wall' move.

I think sooner or later each brand will be just putting a generic sedan on the track. It will just have a Chevy, Ford, or Totota decal on the car with each brand supplying their own spec engines.

... Maybe will be called a power unit by that time.

Coincidentally the horses' “push tail rods” were measured more closely after that time as well. A few of them began to lose a step as a result of the scrutiny, thus leading to the birth of "Mustangs", who no longer even cared.

Then there was that whole amphora of olives about tape on the Toyotus' hooves and Hendrictum's chariot vents. Worse penalties since Mikei was caught juicing the horse feed.

GM is making some of the most baffling decisions.

Half the population has an iPhone and most of those people won't buy a new car if it's infotainment system doesn't support Apple CarPlay. Every other manufacturer just about is making CarPlay standard in their vehicles. Pretty much every aftermarket touchscreen radio has CarPlay built in now.

It's usually a software/licensing issue. A lot of people like apple but in reality apple doesn't play well with anyone else. A lot of times software is just incompatible and apple refuses to make an effort.

You missed the rest of the sentence: "... and Android Auto ...". That gets the other half of phone owners.

Not being a heavy phone user, I find BlueTooth connectivity to be enough for how I want my car and phone to interact. I can see how this would be a bug up some buyers' butts.

It's because GM signed a deal with Google.

Apple not playing well with others is laughable. The reason I bought an Apple TV is because the streaming apps I use the most were not available on Roku or Fire Stick at all because of disputes.

Because the infotainment systems will run exclusively on Android.
But it won't have the phone / app connectivity. The impact on the device users is the same regardless of OS - no talkee. That's even more perplexing than not having CarPlay connectivity, since the Android environment for car and phone should be more easily compatible. At first I though maybe GM was targeting the global market, where Android dominates; not being compatible with Android Auto shot that idea down.

Android users don't use "Android Auto" the same way iPhone users use CarPlay.

I’ll have to take your word. I’m switching from a work-issued iPhone to a personal Samsung, haven’t used either app, and don’t plan to. It’s a case of not knowing or caring what they do.

I’m in IT. Separate the technology from the users.

I admit I don’t like Apple’s ‘closed reservation’ approach.

That's fair enough. It's just that whether it's the devotees to Apple, or the people that work there, there just seems to be a smugness about them that doesn't sit well with me. Even a person who was a huge mentor to me was a devoted Apple guy and kind of a dick about it. Now don't get me wrong, I think the other side is mostly second rate crappy products that would be the garbage can of history if they didn't control so much of the market. Every version of Windows since XP has been a step backwards in my opinion.

Microsoft Windows was my favorite mobile OS.

Shame it didn’t take off.
Microsoft waited too late to tackle mobile. By the time they took it seriously, Apple and Blackberry were already well established.

Blackberry stuck with the model of mobile phones as primarily communications devices. They missed the public's shift to wanting entertainment devices, and the willingness to sacrifice a physical keyboard for more screen space to watch stuff.

Unlike the other three, Google didn't limit Android to its own hardware or configuration. It gained share by allowing other manufacturers to license the OS and modify it to their own systems. It also targeted the market of those who were dissatisfied with Apple's restrictions.

We still have a couple of dozen Windows CE mobile devices in use in our warehouse. They were new in 2016 but even then MS hadn't updated the OS since '13. Now we have problems with incompatibility with other systems. The big one is that WiFi standards have evolved and we have to bypass newer security standards we'd prefer to have in place. We'll replace them with W10 laptops on carts this summer. In trials, our users prefer the bigger screens and keyboards.

Separate what you see on the screen from the working nuts and bolts of Windows. To toss in a NASCAR analogy, the car's body ain't what's under it.

The working parts of Windows have improved greatly since XP. As far as what we see on the screen, the 'Graphical User Interface', I'd say Windows 7 was the peak. W8 wrote in concrete the old guidance about skipping every other version of Windows. W10 fixed most of W8's interface mistakes.

W11 is really just an update of W10 with some new GUI unfamiliarities. Most of the changes seem designed to be more like Apple, or to enhance ease of use on mobile devices. Who the heck buys a mobile device running Windows? MS keeps trying to pretend they have a place on devices other than desktop, laptops, and to a declining extent, servers.

Windows 11 was made for tablets and for gaming.

I have it on my desktop and hate it. It probably wouldn’t be as bad on a Surface.

Race the Suburban.

Just make something up, that is what the yoters have done. :idunno:
GM Authority has repeatedly reiterated their report that a new generation of the Malibu will be coming in 2025.
If that one gets cancelled as well I struggle to imagine how a Corvette or Traverse Cup car would look like.
You're the one with the design degree though...

Here is more info about the Cruz
The Cruise Origin was unveiled in January 2020. The Cruise Origin is a purpose-built, all-electric, and shared self-driving vehicle, and is a result of the collaboration between GM, Cruise and Honda. The Cruise Origin will be built at Factory ZERO8 and be powered by the Ultium platform.

I'm rather doubtful that Chevy's next Cup car will be based on that one.

I know nothing about auto design or aesthetics, but that thing drove through an ugly forest and hit every tree. It's so ugly, the mechanics service it with drones. If a subway car and Darth Vader's helmet got very drunk one night, this would be the result.

NASCAR should change the rule book to eliminate references to current production models. Let the manufacturers stick the company logo on and forget the model branding.

Off topic answer to an off topic post was that the Cruz isn't extinct. I have no idea what GM and Nascar will come up with with the Camaro being discontinued, don't really care either lol.
That self-driving taxi has no connection to the soon-to-be-discontinued subcompact sedan, it doesn't even use the same nameplate.
