Cup RACE thread --- Talladega

Larson's car was a failed weld. A proper weld is stronger than the material it is welded to. Somebody at Hendrick needs a talking to.

Do we know for sure it was a failed weld? Usually it breaks right next to the weld

Those aren’t HMS welds.
Yeah it is hard to tell from the pics, but somebody needs to take a hard look at that area and if that weld failed somebodies head will be in a noose. On major structural projects, welds are kept track of as to who did them. Welds are also X rayed for penetration and junk in the weld. If they aren't doing that and just slapping them together without proper docs., they better put a stop to that pronto.

I'd find it hard to believe that all the welds are x rayed, that would take a ridiculous amount of time and money. Maybe some of the critical ones? Something like shear wave or some other NDT.

sorry but this is the junk that nascar gives them. glad he is ok
You need to realize how much energy was absorbed bending/breaking that. If it remained rigid that energy would have been transferred to the driver.

I'm pretty sure Revman will spend all week convincing us that there is nothing to see here, it's all Kyle's fault.
And that's why I haven't seen his posts in a while

I would think those should be, after all that is the ****pit area, those are critical.

you are right, but if that was the drivers door,it would have been bad.i know there more bars on the drivers side.but still not good

Would of thought Nascar would take other car to look at it too on front end damage, front crush area.

LPT., an indication hints at a probable weakness in a joint. MPT is another. Every Nuclear weld on Submarines goes through at least 2 NDT disciplines , several times...
We have 5 different methods to choose from.
Maybe something NASCAR should look into on a broader scale. Lives are at stake.

$25,000 for a complete Cup chasis seems like such an unreal bargin. I am thinking a Saturday night Late Model or Modified chasis would cost more.

I am surprised that the group of conniving Hendrick Felon Interns agreed to such a low rate. But that's what a team has to do to maintain. all of the insider advantages and to promote the Anti-Toyota culture

“Jeffy and Chadly”

They’re going to keep doing this until someone else gets killed.
That well may have happened today had that hit happened on the driver side of the car.. No matter how much they reinforce it.

Elton Sawyer. A man with TWO Busch wins being VP of competition just shows the type of people they have running NASCAR
Elton isnt the Race director but carry on

Elton Sawyer has done more than just win 2 Busch races, the guy has been doing this for over 30 years and is incredibly smart. Your driver having a crappy race doesnt change that

How many people can say that they won 2 Busch series races? Not many.

Since Kyle won, is this a real win?
Good question. Wondered that myself for a moment but it's obvious he won due to his incredible skill. Anyone else had won it was just great luck and because he had a crappy car or pit stops.

Partial to this race - first one my 7 year daughter watched with me.

She said, "Why are there no girls?"

I said "Well, there used to be." I also pulled up some Videos of Avedisian!
