The Announcers Thread

I say this without exaggeration. My friendly believe in my heart that Rick Allen is the worst broadcast decision made in the entire history of this sport. I think he represents everything artificial and conflated about the current state of NASCAR. He calls races like it's a wrestling match. His voice in his enthusiasm is so obnoxiously fake and I think it's an embarrassment.

My wife genuinely does not take the races she watches with him (all of NBC for that matter) seriously. It's awful.

@StandOnIt hit the nail on the head by coining them "gerbils"

Got awful. Best wick would be great, McReynolds was absolutely fantastic on Sunday. Miss him a lot.

I also miss the old ESPN crew. Andy Petrie was another one who is fantastic

As a production, NBC crushes FOX. They make the sport feel big time and their pre and post race coverage is really really good and actually worth watching. As someone that doesn't need a whole lot of info given to me during the race, that carries more weight for me these days.

Yeah. I don’t know about FOX anymore. The production just seems cobbled together compared to NBC. I think Larry Mac belongs in the booth.

Tweeted that she was taking care of her parents and will likely be back tonight
I just read this too !

@ClaireBLang

Thank you
@SiriusXMNASCAR
especially those who pitched in extra to assist during my absence. I went off grid-home helping my 92 & 94 yr. old parents in WI & taking care of health. I'm so sorry if I worried any of you. Back on air tonight #DialedIn . I missed each of u greatly.
❤️

I wouldn't care if Chris Myers was never associated with a race broadcast again. So tired of his 'We kid because we care' crapola. If you know you have to justify what you just said, you know you were wrong to have said it.

You looked it up…so we didn’t have to.

I don’t miss him in the slightest.

Fox is just collecting checks from their advertisers. It's obvious they don't care. I'd like to see another network get a crack at the early part of the schedule.

I guess to me it just seems like people like to complain. Could fox to better? Yeah, but it's not as bad as people want you to believe.

I do find it funny how Denny mentioned that the radio broadcast makes it sound so much more exciting. You know why? Because they can lie to you about what's going on and you can't see anything to dispute it. I remember listening to race a couple years ago and they made it sound like it was a battle to the end with the #4 finishing just ahead of the #3. Then I watched the DVR and he beat him by like 3 cars and it wasn't even a competition. TV can't lie to the viewers.

Mike Joy is beginning to show his age. He's been making lots of mistakes lately.

I disagree. Fox's coverage is awful in ways words can't describe, especially the past few years.

NBC's overall presentation is ahead of Fox by leaps and bounds.

Fox has too many toys and doesn't know what to do with them. The excessive use of on boards, the tight shots, endless shots of kids in stands and the infield, random segments from the Charlotte studio, numerous pre-taped segments during the broadcast, and so on.

Add cartoon driver images, poor camera selection that doesn’t show what’s unfolding (s/f line camera is useless except on last lap). what happened to pit stop timing?

Does anyone care about driver heart rates?

They need to hire Rutledge to give tours of the city away from NBC

Until NBC takes over and everyone complains about the screaming gerbils...........

So many people are only happy when they have something to complain about........

Mike Joy is beginning to show his age. He's been making lots of mistakes lately.

He's definitely not what he used to be, but his level of knowledge is far superior to anyone else that can do that role with the exception of Allen Bestwick.

If he gets the boot who replaces him? Jamie Little has a long ways to go before I'd consider her for the role from what I've seen here do in the truck series.

Jeff and Steve get carried away, but I still think every aspect of NBC's coverage is better.

The energy in the NBC booth works though. Even if it's a bit much sometimes, it keeps me entertained.

INDYCAR on NBC is the gold standard for motorsports broadcasts IMO.

Adam Alexander is fine, but Fox is all in on Jamie Little and that appears to be the direction they'll go.

Letarte thinks they need to move the commitment line back a thousand feet at Talladega. The brakes are too good lol.

I freaking miss Benny. :(

He had a voice that stayed with you. An everyman sort of appeal, I loved his teaching segments.

I miss Ned trying to properly enunciate TIIIURRZZZZ.
Just say TARS and get it over with! LOL

I’ve passively watched some of the Cup racers doing the Xfinity booth on Saturdays. The one who I think really shines is Logano. I’ve never liked him on the track (admitting he’s a great driver and always wins whenever I get to go to a race gah). But he’s a nice balance in the booth. Some day when he retires from racing I wouldn’t mind seeing him go full time. He had a nice balance of conversational and informed and is polite and doesn’t talk over others.

In Sundays I’ve decided I’m just worn out with Bowyer’s schtick. He wants to be Waltrop and frankly we don’t need more goofy crap. Both Danica and Kurt are far better to listen to and don’t run over everyone else in the booth. Keep them, ditch him. And in a few years cycle Logano in. Can’t wait for Jr to return with NBC.

I don't think ditching Bowyer will help the situation. Fox obviously wants a clown in the booth. If they dropped Clint, they'd hire someone else who was willing to play the role. I've seen Michael Waltrip on occasions when he wasn't doing his schtick and he's almost completely different. Fox is hiring pegs based on what holes they'll fit into.

What the hell is Fox trying to accomplish with the booth today?
