Cup RACE thread ---- Darlington

That point system is a thing of the past. Without a win, he gets eliminated.
That would be so delicious, and a Kenseth moment for sure. The Chase/Playoffs are a product of people being bored with Kenseth's title, so maybe the change we need will come from the points leader missing the playoffs. We can only hope.

The worst driver in good equipment doesn't lead as many laps at Darlington as he has today. He's aggressive but he's talented.
Absolutely. Actually he is in the top 5 of the best drivers out there today, being aggressive with this car is a necessity. Darlington is a tough place and when you put that many cars going into the corners at this track that practically funnels to one groove this stuff will happen and before anyone says "well you just let off and let them go" you just guaranteed a loss of multiple positions and killed your track position. Truex and Chastain are fantastic drivers but when you are in a position to keep yourself in the top 5 or take the lead you cant let up.

Same thing can be said of you and some other 9 fans that think the world and NASCAR are against your driver and you........over and over and over and over.......
It's not any different than the long list of folks that think NASCAR shows favoritism towards him, over and over and over again. We all exist in the same threads.

It really isn't that serious. I come here to talk with y'all and sometimes bitch about stuff and the world turns.

Maybe you are not one of the worst offenders. But there are some 9 fans that act as if the spirit world, NASCAR, God, Hendrick, Gustaffson, pit crew, NBC/Fox, and every NASCAR fan is working against Chase and his fans.

And yes, success and popularity work against him some minds but the whining is incredible. Could be just 1 or 2 but they do it soo often it seems like the entire fan base (here anyway) blame every misfortune on forces working against Chase.

That point system is a thing of the past. Without a win, he gets eliminated.
Uh, no.

"The top 15 drivers with the most wins over the first 26 races will earn a spot in the playoffs – provided they have finished in the top 30 in points and attempted to qualify for every race (except in rare instances). The 16th playoff position will go to the points leader after race No. 26, if he/she does not have a victory. In the event that there are 16 or more different winners over 26 races, the only winless driver who can earn a playoff spot would be the points leader after 26 races. ... At the end of the regular season, the points leader is awarded 15 playoff points."

Once the playoff start, at least one eligible driver will still advance on points. There are only three races in each round, but four drivers advance. If an ineligible driver wins a playoff race, or if an eligible driver wins more than one race in a round, then two or even three or four drivers may advance on points.

ASSUMING the second half of the regular season mirrors the first half (not likely), Ross would be seeded fourth.

Neither driver was playing well with each other. But Chastain is when all you have is a hammer, everything is a nail.

As much as Hendricks says there is paybacks for Ross
I don’t see it happening
Other drivers, They’ll make Ross earn it
But they won’t flat out dump him in retaliation to keep him from winning a championship

The only person I could see maybe doing anything, would be Kevin. If Ross does anything to piss him off, I could see payback in the Championship race. He’s not racing next season, so he can’t get no punishment. Other than that I doubt anyone risk being set out for the 500 to start the season.

Last year Hamlin wrecked him twice, this year once, and he got fined for it. I think getting in his line and taking it away if they are slower, blocking using the Newman method, all kinds of ways to screw up Ross's day

From what I've seen, I don't think Ross is wrecking people on purpose. He's just racing too hard. Young drivers almost always go through that, though occasionally you get one that simply doesn't care. Ross' problem is he's doing it every week instead of giving the other guy a little more room. He's also pissing off almost everyone. Anyone remember the last driver that was so widely criticized by the other drivers? Yeah, me neither.

I think he's a fast shoe, and I also think if the right people talked to him Ross is capable of cleaning it up. Otherwise, Ross could be facing five or ten guys who want to take him out every race, not including whomever he wrecked last week. Maybe he doesn't care, but he will when someone dumps him on his lid.

Or, the next time someone goes after Ross, Nascar security just let's him get a good lesson. Wait for it to be someone like Ryan Newman (Buddy Baker would be even better). That or have Childress slap him around a little. There's a lot of ways to handle this. Try being nice and if that doesn't work, well......boys have at it.

Ross is on the hot seat. With Kyle and Harvick and Elliot, all well-established stars and men with championships, call you out, a smart guy would at least listen. Instead, Ross doubles down: https://racer.com/2023/05/13/im-comfortable-making-these-guys-uncomfortable/

The problem goes right back to what Kyle said: respect, and Ross doesn't show any. Sure, Ross accepts responsibility and then says "I was trying to crowd him." So, he accepts responsibility, and then admits doing it.

Guys like this don't change until you make them.

Ross has been driving that way for years. Many of us, me included, noticed he was taking a slower car and getting good results. Since he has been with Kaulig, and with the combination of the new car, he has been overdriving the hell out of it. With Larson, Chastain ran into him at Dega, Dover, and Darlington, 3 out of the last 4 races. I would be pissed off too.

Not from NASCAR, but his legacy would get a ding. Who'd want the discussion about your exit from the sport to be about how you wrecked someone out of a championship?

I think Harvick, Joey, Busch and Elliot would get payback. Not Kenseth Logano payback but I truly believe those drivers would give it back to him if he crossed the line with those them. Joey has said previously if you cross the line with him he’ll retaliate (Byron last year). And one thing I like about Elliot is if somebody wrongs him he seems to take a shot right back at the person as soon as he can then moves on from it. Doesn’t let it fester like some of these guys.

Watched the Ross vs Kyle wreck again this morning. Is it just me or did Kyle just pin the gas until the #1 fell off his nose? Took him for a ride, sure looks that way.
I said that watching live. He knew he was borked, so he made damn sure the 1 didn't keep going too. He stayed in the gas long after they left the wall too, pushing the 1 make a quarter mile (it felt like) while he had him t-boned. I'd love to see that throttle trace.

Listen to Justin Marks on Dave Moody's Sirius show this afternoon. He certainly had lost the "Trackhouse won't back down" bravado. If you really listened to what Dave and Justin both said (without directly saying), I think that Mr. Hendrick and Chevy brass have stepped in. Moody even asked Justin about Mr. H, Cliff Daniels, and some others have said in the media last night and then started asking Marks about Chevy support and not angering HMS or RCR.

Larson flatted a couple of Ross's tires doing that.

Pretty sure Toyota would find room for Trackhouse if the opportunity came along.

If anyone was going to be the beneficiary, glad it was Byron in that throwback scheme after getting punted out of the lead by Logano last year for light wall contact.

as for Ross, he's racing hard and not backing down, as he shouldn't with the amount of speed he shows each week, I applaud it, there's plenty of times he gave room on Sunday, a late race restart for the win wasn't going to be one of them, keep doing what got you here.

Agreed. Ford needs another crown jewel with Penske and RFK as well. The other OEMs would probably be right there to swoop them up, but it would be fun watching Trackhouse have to sit in the corner and suck a la Legacy for a season and a half.

I knew the chap would be heavy, since Ross and the Jockey went into turns 1 and 2 hard for the win. Like Reddick said on Sirius today, “whoever came out of that turn in front would win”. He didn’t impale Ross. He commented on how it could have happened on the earlier restart when Jockey banged into Ross and put him into the wall. It’s two hard charging drivers going for a win.

Hendrick was a complete jacka$$ for making his snide whining comments. Now it becomes clear he is threatening to imperil the supply of HMS support to Trackhouse (at least the way Marks made it sound and per everyone else’s similar perceptions captured here). How the harry is THAT copacetic NASCAR? The jockey has wrecked plenty of people on his way to wins or attempts. So has Logano, so has KDB, so have most strong drivers.

Ross is getting much better. He was way too aggressive early and during the first stage of his time with the #1 last year. He races hard, and drivers are using this against him to always point and say ”nah nah na nah nah” 😭😭😭.

They only have to give him a hard time on the very last race to make sure he doesn't win a championship. In reality, just make sure another of the final 4 crosses the line ahead of him on the last lap and that can be done with no penalty by just running a 4 wide road block.

Looked that way to me. I just think he wanted to make sure Ross was out, and it worked.

If this is the definition of getting better, I sure as hell would hate to see what getting worse looks like. When you live by the sword like Ross does, you are NOT going to get the benefit of the doubt, that's just the way it goes. I like Justin Marks and what he is doing, but sometimes you just have to know your place, and that place is about 293 wins behind HMS. Marks would be well advised to talk to his guy about not poking the bear damn near every week.

Cuz you ran him in the fence on the previous restart homie

And Ross ran him into the fence a restart prior. Larson's was retaliation for an earlier incident.

Yeah, I don't see much deliberate payback. I think Larson dooring him was his attempt at payback.

You'll see more of guys over cooking it, not lifting, dooring, but you wont see anything egregious, or by admission
