NFL 2023-2024

A lot of bad decision making in my view, and I'm consistent in that. It's not just criticizing the outcome. I like Dan Campbell and want him and the Lions to succeed, but I plainly don't see much daylight between his approach to fourth down situations and Brandon Staley's.

The one time he moderated himself at the end of the half, it was correct. He needs to do a lot more of it.

I don't want to be disappointed. I want to be happy with how this season went, but man it's hard getting this close, only to have it end this way. A complete collapse by Detroit in the second half of this game ended their season, one game short of their first ever SB. I guess I was foolish to actually think it was going to happen. Oh well, time for NASCAR.

I don't think either the 49ers or Lions can beat KC. They beat Buffalo and Baltimore on the road, the two top seeds
They played a complete game today. The 49ers will not get away with sleep walking until mid way through the 3rd quarter against them.

I think Detroit making the Super Bowl would’ve been the league’s ultimate Cinderella story and resulted in some significant added intrigue (see 2016 World Series), but you can’t go wrong against a historic franchise like the 49ers against the Swifties.

After some of the incredible ratings numbers of late, I do wonder if there will be some fatigue here. Not that I think Detroit or Baltimore would have produced higher viewership.

Detroit would have absolutely brought in more viewership. I’m not watching a staged entertainment reality show.

It’s tough because there’s only one ultimate goal in this league, Super Bowl windows close in a hurry, and just because the way it unfolded in the second half. The Lions had an awesome season with a lot of big wins and were a very entertaining team. That will be hard to reconcile for a little bit.

Yeah and if Ben Johnson leaves to be the head coach of the Commanders I'm honestly not sure the Lions will be anywhere close to this good next year

Ratbirds fans, when Calvin Ridley's touchdown was called and confirmed as an incomplete pass: "Well, it didn't matter anyway."

Also, the Chiefs literally lost a game because DPI on a similar type of play wasn't called because of the type of play.

Yep. The only teams with indefinite Super Bowl windows are the Chiefs and 49ers.

Detroit might not even make the playoffs next year.

After 2008, 2018 and this past season with the Jags, I can't ever look forward to "next season." Every time, "next season" has led to disaster, rebuilding, more rebuilding, more rebuilding, and misery.

Cinderella stories rarely pan out.

And, when they do, they don't actually bring ratings. See the Rangers/Diamondbacks World Series, which was a ratings disaster for Major League Baseball.

Neither of those teams I would really classify as Cinderellas. The Lions, to me, always had that lovable loser type of aura that the Cubs had. Whether it was winning a division, winning a playoff game, or making it to the championship, no one had been quite as prolific at failing as those two (I could also throw the Browns in this category, but the Watson debacle took a lot of the shine off).

The Rangers had been a pretty good team for a while last decade and lost a couple of World Series, the Diamondbacks have a fairly recent title of their own and were merely a decent team that happened to make a run in the playoffs. And besides, people at the national level don’t care about more than maybe five baseball teams anymore. It’s a regional sport; no one’s getting exposed to D-Backs during the regular season.

The biggest extender of a Super Bowl window is an elite QB, and there just aren’t many of those lying around. Guys like Brady and Mahomes have proven they can win with the receiving corps from the local junior college.

I feel your pain, man. I’m expecting another slump for Detroit with coaching/QB changes happening as early as the 2025-2026 season. Coach Dan is a lovable coach, but is he hard enough on this team to make them learn from their mistakes? I don’t believe so.

If you think Taylor Swift is ugly, I want to see the women where you live. I don't think she's drop dead gorgeous but she's solidly above average.

Yeah, I find her “ugly” because her fame is overblown & her music doesn’t connect with a lot of people, and not only that, beauty isn’t *just* about appearance. I’ve seen plenty of fat bitches that are just as decent as her.
