Tire: Goodyear Eagle 18-inch Road Course Radials

Set limits: 1 set for practice, 1 set for qualifying and 6 sets for the race (5 race sets plus 1 set transferred from qualifying)

Tire Codes: D-5252 (same on all four tire positions)

Tire Circumference: 2,276 mm (89.61 in.)

Minimum Recommended Inflation: Left Front — 22 psi; Right Front — 20 psi; Left Rear — 17 psi; Right Rear — 17 psi

Storyline – Second year in the Second City: Returning to the streets of Chicago for the second NASCAR Cup race, the sport has a better idea of what to expect of the 12-turn, 2.2-mile course. Goodyear has a different tire for this year’s race, with increased tread thickness to hold heat in the tire and promote more lap-time fall-off over the course of a run. That is something Goodyear has been designing into its road course and short track tires in 2024. The increased heat leads to the fall-off, which leads to more disparity in performance based on driving style and potentially more passing throughout the field. Much of last year’s race was run in wet conditions and Goodyear will have its wet weather tires on hand again, though the forecast looks clear for this weekend.

“We learned a lot about the Chicago street course last year, both in wet and dry conditions,” said Greg Stucker, Goodyear’s director of racing. “We have made a couple updates to our road course tire for 2024 and had a successful race on this package at Sonoma last month. One thing we’ve been doing on our road course and short track tire set-ups this season is increasing the tread gage (thickness) to keep more heat in the tire and increase fall-off. Ultimately, that fall-off puts more control into the drivers hands through tire management, which can be key in taking advantage of passing opportunities throughout a run.”

Notes – Cup teams on Sonoma tire at Chicago: Being on 18-inch bead diameter tires, NASCAR Cup teams will run a different tire set-up than those in the Xfinity Series on the Chicago street course this weekend . . . Cup teams will run the same Goodyear tire code on all four tire positions on the Chicago street course . . . this tire debuted at Sonoma in June . . . compared to what Cup teams ran at Chicago last season, this tire features a construction update and more tread thickness . . . with this 18-inch tire, and its lower profile sidewall, NASCAR Cup cars do not run inner liners in any of their tires.

Wet Weather Tires – Goodyear brings white-lettered “wets” to Chicago: Goodyear will bring its 18-inch wet weather radials to the Chicago street course for use by teams in the NASCAR Cup Series, should NASCAR decide that conditions warrant . . . Cup teams will have 6 sets of wet weather tires for the event . . . NASCAR Cup teams last ran a wet weather tire in competition at New Hampshire two weeks ago, with the last time on a road/street course at this race last July . . . the tread pattern on this tire is based on Goodyear’s Eagle Supercar 3 consumer tire . . . in addition to the obvious difference of a tread pattern versus Goodyear’s dry weather “slick” tires, the “Goodyear” and “Eagle” lettering on the sidewalls of the wet weather tires is white, not the standard yellow.
 
Just remember if Chicago was such a good place there wouldn't be a stream of Illinois plates headed north to Wisconsin for the holiday

The mass exodus of blue plates heading north is absurd. By us nobody goes to Chicago, Chicago is a place you have to go through to get somewhere you want to get to.

This race is epic. Great course for stock cars. Backdrops are amazing. I am so jacked. I like Reddick here.....and maybe Ty from MY camp. SVG will be a factor. Love Reddick's driving style on road courses....charges the corner hard, great on the brakes.....wheeling that mofo. Fascinating to listen to Denny talk about him...and what he brought to MY Toyotas when he came.....he turned OUR road course program around with a little help from TRD. Special thanks to Poor Richard for taking the money, and setting this talent free early. Nice to see that he dumped the cash into his vineyard instead of improving his team. Gabehart tells Denny that he gets Reddick's set up until he proves he can be heard in a road course car. Love this. STFU and earn your place at the table.

Wisconsin is a nice outdoors state, with plenty of fishing, hiking, camping to do.

The article only mentions that it was a "NASCAR race in Soldier Field" leading one to believe that it was a Cup race. Actually it was a "Convertible Series" race, a series separate from the Grand National Series (now known as Cup).

I think the city is more in favor of it this year considering nascar gave them 2 million dollars to host it. Sounded like last year they all felt no matter how well it went they weren't going to make money (or at least enough for the inconvenience).

I don't get it. Last year was a disaster from a weather standpoint having to cancel a lot of events but they still had to of come out pretty well.

Somewhat surprised that for the second consecutive year NASCAR was unable to secure corporate sponsorship for the two races.

So like last year, it will be the Grant Park 165 and The Loop 110.

Just wondering how many non-Chicagoans (without looking it up) actually know what The Loop refers to.
 
I look forward to seeing how this track actually races in the dry. Last year sucked in a lot of ways but the wet track certainly spiced things up in terms of the racing.

Don't know, didn't care enough to look it up. I assume Grant Park is a public park in the vicinity of the track, probably with access to it restricted because of the race.

Politics were n play also. This year being a second time it has gone way smoother with less disruptions to the Chicagoins

I heard of it way back in high school. We could get WLS in Arkansas at night time.
 
Just not into this.... going short tracking this weekend. This is not what NASCAR is about.
 
Okay, what's the 'majestic man' stuff? Googling it got me a brand of men's clothing.

EDIT apparently it interests me more than 'The Loop'. Also not sure why what looks like a Hamlin hat is matched with a Chevy shirt.

Actually, the race is being held on the streets that run through and around the public park named for Ulysses S. Grant.

I'm sure you could get WLS in Arkansas but it was a station with the call letters WLUP that branded itself as The Loop.

However, the term itself goes back to the early 20th century and, as such, has nothing to do with radio.
 
I also don't know what the Jeffersons were movin' on up to the east side OF, but we'll hold that for the NYC street race. I'm not sure why the entertainment industry thinks the majority of us who have never lived in a place will comprehend local references.
 
The Loop is the multi-colored rectangular area on this map that indicates the location of the elevated rail lines that encircles what was once the central business district of Chicago.

Grant Park, where the street race will be held, is to the right side on the map.

I associated The loop with a geographical location because It was during WLS's traffic watch I think they called it that they would mention the loop. Never heard of WLUP. It wasn't a clear channel station probably. There were only a handful back in the day.

Because that's Josh Williams who drives the 11 Xfinity car for Kaulig.
