Pre-Race Thread for CMS'S The Roval

This is a race that any of the 4 HMS teams could win if they can stay out of trouble and not have any mechanical failures.
The 9 has had this race won at least twice and had it taken by a horribly timed yellow. Screw trouble, just don’t want cautions!

Wow.

Two lines from the article that stood out for me.

Chase Briscoe: “Depending on how Dukes of Hazzard you want to be with your car in qualifying especially, you’re going to get some air (in Turn 6)."

Denny Hamlin: "We got a great oval that’s at that racetrack. While I’m walking around that roval, I’m looking at the banks of the oval thinking, ‘Man it’d be awesome to run on that racetrack.'”

Elliott pulled out 7 road course race wins in like... 3 and a half years. He since hasn't won on a road course since 2021. And outside of Watkins Glen in 2022, and 2 roval races, he hasn't really been as dominant as he was in the gen 6 car.

I know Elliott credited HMS advantages for his success, but you don't just scoot to #2 all time on road courses. He feels way overdue, but the speed just hasn't really been there at a road course in 2 seasons.

Wonder if that changes this weekend.

SVG is just light-years beyond these cup guys right now on road courses. I think Ricky Rudd was right - the gap will tighten over time. But man, he's got a good half second on these guys on talent alone right now

Didn’t he run on it just four months ago? I thought it was Larson that missed the 600?

SVG is amazing. He was struggling in practice in the 20's, then on the last lap goes to the top of the board. Then repeats it again in quailifying, not to mention on the pole for the Xfinity race as well. I swear the guy has a sixth sense when it comes to road courses.

Smoooooooth … 😎

You run on 95% of it Denny suck it up buttercup.

If anyone went airborne in the X race, it wasn't shown or mentioned by the booth.

The last stage of that X race will be a tough act to follow.

In the Next Gen, everyone having giant brakes neutered his advantage imho. He had Watkins Glen won when Larson sent him, and had Roval won two years ago with like a 6 second lead and the mysterious sign caution for a sign that was there several laps prior. He then got sent on restart. He was also fastest last year at Roval and seemed poised to win again when a terribly timed caution came out right as they were pitting at end of stage one, relegating him to the back.

Elliott feels way overdue
He seems to have a decent car but I don't think anyone has anything for SVG and Reddick seems to be emerging as the new regular that's up there in RC's. Does anyone have 5 or 10 lap averages for practice? I think long run speed will be important.

I think Larson is a dark horse road course ace. He's won 5 road course races since joining HMS.

Reddick always has speed but I just have so so so much confidence in him hacking himself out of contention. SVG is SVG.

But I think the most likely scenario is that none of them win. Cindric looked good too.

Reddick that close to SVG on lap older tires was eye opening. The Playoff strategy plays makes getting self-hacked easy....just impressive speed and technique from a guy to taught himself how to do this vs. a guy that has been doing it for a living for some time, Don't sleep on Bell.

I think it's also worth noting Reddick's car probably had a lot more speed and grip than SVG's. A few laps too.

All things equal, I don't think anyone in cup is equal to SVG

I think you need some help with basic math.
A few feet of the front stretch and a few feet of the back stretch, they are on nearly the whole oval track that Denny wants to be on. Perhaps you should work on your reading skills. Denny's being a whiney bitch and should just sue NASCAR if he doesn't like it.

SVG, then Dinger, then Elliott, Larson, and maybe Reddick, then everybody else.

Greetings from the music store parking lot west of the track, where it's about 70, 80 by green flag, not a cloud to be seen.
