I didn't get much further than the first sentence. I've said many times that a fan can't understand the playoff system fully, I didn't need the Chat thing to prove it. A simple point system right or wrong is the way to go. There isn't a perfect one, but this latest is a calamity of errors on top of errors.

both college football and nascar are mirror images of each other in a way. Both were sports built on regional following, rivalries and fanbases. College football napalming its regional conferences where pretty much every single game mattered in a regular season to chase the oh so sweet network tv money of a 12 team playoff, is almost a verbatim script to what nascar did with axing it's regular season points championship in pursuit of whatever it is that is used to crown a champion now. I'd say the college football playoff while cool to see the first round home games at home, leaves the sport a little more hollow without its regional rivalries and traditions. Plus it opens up incessant bitching from the fan base as most folks are already unhappy with how the playoff is playing out in its first year, which is something nascar fans (myself included) have been doing for 20 years now.
Spending half of the race focusing on the 2 cars that are last to make the "cut line". That is why I started listening to NPR radio. They care about as much about that as I do lol.

Didn't see this before, but I'll just say that there was often not a clear champion in college football historically. At all. There isn't any question as to whom won the NASCAR title in any given year, but there are multiple examples of years where the AP and Coaches polls disagreed, not to mention that champions were based on a vote of who was best in eras where it was totally impossible to see anywhere near as much football as we have today. That's a huge difference between NASCAR and College Football - the playoff was a response to public demand for a decisive national champion. NASCAR did not have the public demanding they create anything to fill the void of a champion who wins their title on the field. They had that already. What they had were people upset about Matt Kenseth.
