The Clash at Bowman Grey Pre-Race Thread.

I was undecided about watching this program. There's little else on at that time tonight, but Cup hasn't run here in over 40 years. I wasn't sure what they could say that would be relevant to the racing this weekend.

Then I watched the clip above and was able to decide. Thanks, SOI! I'll still give the races themselves a chance, though.

I’m just ready for the roar of engines and to see the cars in the track. January is a slow month for me since I’m not a huge NFL fan and don’t watch Basketball at all. Sundays seem empty without a race on TV so by February I’ll take anything. The Clash and Dash qualify as “anything” to get me thru to Daytona.

I thought the Madhouse show was worth watching. The track manager is more of a driver referee than anything. Considering Nascar left in like '71, they spent a lot of time saying we are back to our roots. It was about what I expected. It's more of a show than a race. I don't think any cupper is going to get out of his car and chase the other one around.

I kinda miss the days when drivers qualified for the Busch Clash by winning a pole the previous season.

I recall a picture in Autoweek magazine showing the starting lineup - all the cars were Ryan Newman's car because he won some many poles the previous year.

Ricky vs Kyle Chapter 2

Rain may not be an issue this year, but Bowman Gray would be small enough to umbrella or cover with a Lean-To structure.

NASCAR says the Modified Classic will be on NASCAR Channel on Tubi as well as FloRacing.

Nice, I dropped Flo because I had to cut back expenses and with being a student teacher I don't have as much time to watch so nice to know I can still see it.

So, you drive with number with a 9 in it, AND you're a teacher. Is your name Carl by chance? :p :) ;)

Both awesome in different ways.
I have tried to keep an open mind, problem is I have watched parts of a few races from there on Flo and IMO the people are there for having races and fights break out with the clown show being the priority. When they don't have the nonsense, it's just a cramped tiny track with very little passing. I do expect it will be different with Nascar at the track and the dirt track format with less cars on track most of the time is going to help.

Personally, I think the Frances took it over on a good ol boy deal because the old lessees knew the Frances would keep it like it is and take care of it.

It’s an exhibition race. Drivers will likely go in expecting to get knocked around and bumped and do the same. No hard feelings, and whatever happens at BG between them stays at BG by time for the next race.

I'm trying to keep one, and I'll take a look. But I don't care how the locals have raced here since Cup left it behind 40-plus years ago. That has nothing to do with what we're going to see this weekend.

I'm soured on 25-lap heat races on dinky tracks with no room to pass. Between LA, Bristol dirt, and trucks at Eldora, there seems to be very little passing. Qualifying appears to be everything, something I dislike about F1. Yeah, I know, it's a no-points exhibition race, but the promotion and choice of track make it look like NASCAR wants a wreckfest crapshow. Cautions may not count but I'm willing to tolerate only so many in a race that doesn't count before I pack it in.

I don't care for bump and runs, but this is an exhibition race on a quarter mile bumper car track.

Bring your worst throwaway chassis, to serve as the bulldozer.
It will take eight tires to win the thing and more of an uncouth madhouse mentality than a civilized one.

As for strategy, make sure you have new tires late in the race with the hopes of being planted well enough to take a few shots and the ability to uproot the others while plowing.

A green white checker is virtually guaranteed , so don't be dumb enough to be leading when they wave the white flag, unless you are okay with being put into the wall before taking the checkers.

Have a strong pit crew after the race that is ready to fight. Maybe there will be a good cat fight among the drivers girlfriends and wives.

With the France’s ties to BG and the updates they’ve added, I suppose the Clash will stay at Bowman Gray for a while. If you wanted to stage something at a classic short track during February in North Carolina, I wish they’d considered Hickory Motor Speedway. Using this dirt format would have made that a blast! HMS is 1/3 mile, high banking, and the Cup cars would have made that a heck of a contest. Maybe someday…

I'm expecting some of the heat races at B/G to be pretty good coming from the first 2 rows. They are short races, with starting positions on the line. I wish they were giving out passing points for cars coming from the back, but the first couple rows should be interesting.

I'm not optimistic that its going to be a good race, the Coliseum races were a dud to me and this track is almost the same length? So color me non optimistic but good god racing is here and that is exciting enough. The madness of a 36 race Cup season is about to start, and that makes me very very happy.

Probably afraid no one would earn any.

I want the first race there to be a success and entertain the fans that spend their hard-earned money to go to see it in person or the fans that spend their valuable time tuning in to watch it on tv... and for that reason I'm going to stay home. I have gone to two races there and both of them were rained out before they even started. You are welcome. :)

Absolutely some the best racing I ever saw in my life was the BGN races at Hickory. About 30 cars it was insanely .... perfect.

The old guys like Ingram, Ard, The Tommy's, Larry Pearson etc they could do a 250 lapper racing hard and clean without turning it into a shietshow.

the funniest part about this is Jr stuff being sold in its own trailer it looks like. Thats wild in the year 2025 that demand is still there for him, Southern Jesus can still make that money.
